But this will remain a dream, I guess. Wasn't there a plan in the early or mid 1990s to make a movie with these three. Hell, we all know Sly could use a hit since the last decent thing he did was 1993's Cliffhanger (Copland was mediocre drama with a great cast). Ahnuld won't be playing a lead as long he plays boss of California and Bruce... well, I could see him do it easily. But I want Steve Buscemi fighting nazis. That'll be so much cooler than the three muscle men combined.

Add to them Bruce Willis, John Travolta and others (too bad no Mel Gibson) and the film will clean house. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN will have nothing on this WWII film. Now maybe Joel Silver will get Arnie, Sly or Bruce to star as SGT.ROCK after INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. Maybe Arnie can get Robert Rodriguez to direct WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. I hope this war film will start a healthy new relationship with Arnie and Sly working with QT & Rodriguez!!!

He is not funny nor a good actor. He has two acting modes; soft-spoken retarded guy and crazy loud voice guy, neither of which is funny or original. His movies are all cliched Hollywood romcom tripe that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Him, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and a few other talentless SNL rejects that luckily escape my mind at this moment should spend the rest of their lives being as unnoticeable and unexposed as they possibly can. I would recommend somewhere in Siberia.

Chuck Norris. That's right, I said it. Damn hell! I loved to get a QT spin on some Enter the Dragon/The Octagon/Silent Rage/*Forced Vengeance*/*Lone Wolf McQuade*/Missing in Action *2*/Invasion U.S.A. action. Don't forget Norris was The Man (see these films young 'uns to understand) and can be again if he gets cold blooded. Norris is the baddest of the bad in these films. Shit, when I was a kiddo in the 80's I used to DREAM about Norris from these films hooking up with Stallone from First Blood/Rocky, and Arnold from Commando/Terminator/Predator, and Eastwood from damn near everything. Gene Hackman?? I always saw these warriors getting together and doing something along the lines of Uncommon Valor. Do this thing, Quentin. Go hardcore, lose Sandler, and, if casting any Brits, make sure to get yer paws on Ian McShane (dandifying them is old hat, give 'em rage, make 'em deadly...the S.A.S. were all business). Don't. Get. Cute. I want to sit in the theater and get the preconceptions and smarm kicked right outta my head. I want grueling brilliance, I want what I haven't seen, I want it sooner rather than later (it ain't like Schwarzenegger's gonna pull an Uma with an unscheduled pregnancy, even if he was in Junior). Your idea is brilliant, to say the least - I'd love to see Chuck step up to the plate one last time and be in a kick-ass war flick, to remind everyone that he was still the most balls-out Cannon video action hero of the 80's. More people are killed in "Invasion USA" than most war films combined. That said, I'd also love to see Ah-nold play a Nazi villain but I think that's pretty much impossible. Kind of bad PR to be wearing a SS uniform when you're supposed to be the governor of California. That said, Prince Harry got away with it and he wasn't even making a movie...

Since when does Tarantino talk like an Entertainment Weekly article translated into Japanese and back? This one's a little bit hard to swallow there ABKing. All this talk of Arnie being apart if this QT WWII will soon be known in October when he decides if he will run again or not. My guess is, even if he does run again, why wouldn't he want to find time to star in a film by Tarantino? The man does wonders for anyones career. Stallone will do this film because QT will beg him to do it. Tarantino has stated MANY times that Sly is the # 1 actor he would love to work with. As for Arnie not doing the film because it is HARD R...that is a dumb statement. If the script is great, fuck R!!! R ratings for Arnie and Sly are great anyways...not the pussy PG-13 todays actions stars thrive for. The way I see it, Arnie will comeback with TERMINATOR 4 followed by INGLORIOUS BASTARDS (if he does it) then either KING CONAN, TRUE LIES 2 or BATTLE ANGEL with JAMES CAMERON. Stallone will make RAMBO IV followed by INGLORIOUS BASTARDS then most likely ROCKY VI and possibly take control of DEATHRACE 3000 from Paul "I suck" Anderson. Arnie and Sly are going to be back BIG TIME whether you like it or not. I'm sure Tarantino will wait for Arnie to free up some time from governorship. With international box-office names like STALLONE & SCHWARZENEGGER, QT will have the third film that grosses over 1 billion dollars worldwide next to TITANIC and LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING....just kidding!

GOD, how cool would THAT be?!! I REALLY think this project just sounds so AWESOME ... as long as QT can get the actors he wants. AND WHO IN HOLLYWOOD WOULD NOT WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS ... OF THOSE WHO BELONG IN IT??? Awesome. Just awesome. Just the whole idea of it. Arnold could have an excellent role, Nazi or American. And to see Arnold and Sly in the same flick, working with or against, under a great director??? And to add other big-time actors??? And to have the small roles played by the likes of Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Charles Bronson, Gene Hackman, Jim Brown, ...I mean, the list could go on and on, no matter how small the role. How cool would that be??? Every big-time actor should want a role in such a film. Awesome. I just can't say that enough. For me, I would be every bit as hyped about such a film as ANY superhero movie. And from me, that's REALLY sayin' somethin'.

Like the WWII I'm producing. It will star Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Toshiro Mifune, James Coburn, Clint Eastwood, James Cagney, Richard Conte, Alec Guinness, and Richard Harris. To be directed by James Cameron (ca. 1984-1991). Oh, and any WWII movie starring Adam Sandler won't be 'the tits', it'll just be tits up.

Would be probably THE single most ballsy move he has/would ever made/make. It'd raise my interest in the movie 100% and I'd also have a little more respect for him as an actor. He's too willing to either whore himself out to family-freindly shit or just rehashed previous victories. I really hate to admit it but the idea of Arnie the Nazi and Sly back being kick-ass like he was in First Blood does put a big shit-eating grin on my face.... we'll see.

He has NEVER played the bad guy(well, Terminator I suppose, until they made him the good guy). Don't make him a foot soldier either(too old), but a high ranking general or SS prick. I gurantee , as great as this movie will be from beginning to end, Arnold would steal the show!!! Nothing campy. No "super villan" performances...just a soft spoken delivering of QT's dialouge(in German) and that piercing ice cold stare of his. It would be CHILLING. BUT>>>>>this of course is a sensitive area for Arnold. He might not ever touch this. But really, the last thing I need to see is another Arnold the hero...especially the whole "German ex-pat, steal the German uniform, enter Nazi HQ " shtick. That's too Mac Gyver. We don't have to see him gunning down Jews or anything, just a ruthless milatary man following orders. If QT has something like this in mind, I hope Arnold will at least consider it.

A critical mass off some of the biggest icons of my childhood. I really want to Arnold do a good movie again, when he is firing on all cylinders with a qaulity director, no one can match him. I just wonder if he is still open to taking risks as his recent movie choices have not been inspired. It was nice that to see with T3 he realised J Mostow had an idea of what he was doing and the let the guy get on with it. With a strong director like QT and that cast, it would be a dream come true for me and is just the sort of project to suit Schwarzenegger etc in this phase of their careers.

INGLORIOUS BASTARDS screenplay
by RaulMonkey
Mar 27th, 2005
07:12:09 PM
For the record, the INGLORIOUS BASTARDS screenplay is completely finished, and QT has said he believes it's the best thing he's ever written. He was working on it before he started working seriously on KILL BILL, and he was trouble ending it, he just kept coming up with good stories. According to his interview on Charlie Rose last year, he looked at writing KILL BILL as a way to teach himself how write a shorter script and come up with an ending, and we all know how that turned out--what was conceived as a fast-paced 90 minute adventure turned into a 4 hour mega-epic. In any event, QT learned from the experience and finally came up with an ending for IB. But, as he said on Charlie Rose and elsewhere, he has like THREE movies worth of screenplay. It's a fucking monster. So I wonder if it's gonna be divvied up into two, there's gonna be like two three-hour flicks.

Guess the "reporter" was too busy guzzling a muscle-building protein shake to hit the spell check? And am I the only one who thought this sounded like complete and utter bollocks? I guess the constant typos had an effect, but comments like "I shifted my focus to Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Sin City" and the constant use of the words "very well"... well, to quote Casey McCall, "It lacks a certain ring of truth, yes." To the best of my knowledge, QT's Inglorious Bastards project was dreamed up AFTER Pulp Fiction, plus I think QT himself would admit he's hardly focused on Sin City - seeing he was a last minute addition to direct A SINGLE SCENE for his pal Robert Rodriguez, and we're also led to believe the ever-thorough QT wouldn't mention focusing on a little thing we like to call Jackie Brown? To me, it all sounds like some desperate fan trying to give a couple of dead careers a bit of a rev-up. I'd be believing Harry's cast roundup (seeing as he actually, uh, KNOWS THE GUY) more than this pants link any day of the week.

Stallone still commands 20 million a movie, but has shown that he's willing to take backend paychecks (Cop Land and Spy Kids 3-D for example). With his HIT reality series (which is GREAT by the way) THE CONTENDER, Sly is HOT again and is all over the place in 2005! ROCKY 6 and RAMBO 4 should both be out sometime in 2006! Arnold will announce he will NOT run for a second term come October (I have a gut feeling). He will be back with TERMINATOR 4 and possibly KING CONAN! Willis is gearing up for DIE HARD 4!!! What better than INGLORIOUS BASTARDS for all three to follow their sequels with!!!??? I agree that Arnie should play a Nazi bad guy following orders and not some Nazi turn good guy! He should take a big risk now considering he is near 60 and has already become a governor like he dreamed for so many years!

I suppose it's fitting to speculate about such a thing, though, in a talkback about something else that will never happen - namely this cast for this movie. Unless of course QT pulls another idea out of someone else's book and changes it to be more like Bubba Ho Tep. He could set it in the 1950s in a post WWII veterans' hospital where Da Governator, a former Nazi commander who survived the war by passing himself off as a wounded American soldier, plots the deaths of all the other old fuckers listed in this carbon-dated dream cast. He could call it "Those Inglorious Bastards vs. a Grumpy Old Nazi." I wouldn't put anything past QT once you get him talking about something.

Mar 28th, 2005

Other than Eric Bana's decent little performance, I just felt that the film was cobbled together and designed to make us all feel better about the impending war on Terror. It also didn't really show much of the Somalian side of things, and didn't question the 'why' of the US Forces being there at all. They made a mistake by getting involved and consequently fucked up, yet we have to sit through 2 hours of patriotic bollocks for dialogue justifying their noble intentions. I also got pretty sick of Scott's filters and slo mo tracking shots of helicopters. Ridley Scott has swapped his brother Tony for the 'completely over the top shooting of a movie' manual. It needed to be dirty and minimalist, it wasn't. Tigerland is the ONLY decent war movie America has made in twenty years, because it was understated and didn't bludgeon the audience with US Army bullshit.

If you say Black Hawk Down wasn't dirty then you just didn't watch it. You say that it doesn't go into the politics of the situation, the other view points, etc. but then complain that the movie wasn't minimalist. The fact that it covers 1 point of view (the view of the american soldiers)without getting into all their backstories (we don't even know most of their names) makes it minimalist to me. In fact I would venture to say that it's the most minimalist war movie I've seen storywise perhaps ever. If you would have prefered a movie with Bill Clinton talking through half the thing about why he did this and that, then by all means make it. I won't watch it. The movie follows the book, which is strictly about men in a perilous situation. At no point does it become an American propaganda film, in fact if anything it shows how pointless and dangerous bad forgein policies can be without rubbing your face in it.

Mar 28th, 2005
01:43:27 PM
Van Damme SHOULD be in the film, playing a set of French twins opposed to one another. It could have the drama of "North & South," brother against brother. Good Van Damme twin is a commie sympathizer and part of le resistance, while Bad Van Damme twin is an official in Vichy France. And in the moment that there is a firefight between the two sides, both twins flee from the fight, running away from a set of twins portrayed by Steven Segal...while still overweight could still snap Van Damme's neck with the same ease that comes to Herc writing a review of a Whedon property (smiles!) here on AICN... :) Bruce Campbell to play Roosevelt because we all know he could do a better job than Jon Voight or Tom Hanks. Ed Asner for Churchill. John Alexander for Stalin. Chris Kattan as Adolph. And Vincent Cassel as a young Hugh Hefner.

I agree that Bruce Campbell is not nearly as legendary as Arnold or Sly. And it would be a huge event if they were both cast in the same movie, let alone a Tarantino movie. I just think that they are both past their prime, not to mention that they weren't really good actors in the first place. And that is something that I've always enjoyed in Tarantino movies. The quality of the actors. But on the topic of Bruce Campbell, he has one thing that they don't. He has more "cool" in his little toe than Arnold has in his whole body. Arnold is at best, inadvertantly funny.

It'd really only work if Arnold and Sly have small roles. If they star in this movie, than the fact that they are working together would clearly overshadow the story and the movie itself. That's all anyone would care about. And chances are, they'd ham it up worse than Nic Cage in Con Air. Now there's an idea, I wouldn't mind seeing an Adaptation or 8mm calibur acting performance from Cage in a Tarantino movie.

by Jervis Tetch

It's not a lie that QT has written a script called "Inglorious Bastards" (a title he has "borrowed" from a little-known Fred Williamson movie of the 70's, btw.) Nor that he's been talking about making it for years (he said he wanted Sandler in it after the two worked in "Little Nicky" together.) But as noted by posters above, this "QT quote" is a total invention both technically ("Pulp Fiction" was from 94 not 98) and in terms of not sounding like QT's voice. Still,it is exciting, isn't it? The problem remains, given QT's work habits, we won't be seeing this movie until 2008 or so -- and many of his acting choices will be that much older by then. Still, I look forward to it when it happens for real.

Some news reporter dug in Arnulds backgroud a long time ago and found that his Dad was either a member of the Nazi's or that he collabarated with 'em (after all his Dad was a policeman as far as I remember). Ok, so lots of people HAD to help out the Hun, but Arnie was very embarassed by this and buried it quick. So he probably won't play a Nazi - but stories about Arnie's dad aren't gonna make a blind bit of difference. They are, by your own admission Bubbaloola, old news - very, very old news. Arnie disowned his father a long time before he set foot in Hollywood, so whatever his dad did is completely irrelevant. What, you think it would affect his decision to appear in a FUCKING MOVIE?
