Which is exactly what he said to his mother after seeing the trailer for "White Chicks." Don't get me wrong, I don't think "Sin City" will be a disaster of that magnitude, I just don't think I can pay for this movie after seeing the newest TV spot. I could probably withstand those cut-scene-looking car chases, but not the ridiculous sight all those girls (and Clive Owen) shooting their guns from the rooftoops in that ridiculous maniacal manner. I have to kind of shield my eyes when I see that footage because it's kind of embarassing. Guess I might have been interested if it was helmed by someone with some real depth.

I don't expect to love this movie because it will offer very few surprises to those who have read the Sin City comics. But I do expect to have a grand time watching it and it will certainly be worth the $8. I'm to the point where I only see two or three movies a year at the theater and this one will certainly make the cut (along with Kong and WotW this year).

Sorry, but when I see a "comic book" movie, I want to see a film with SUPER-HEROES -- not some ugly-ass blend of "Dick Tracy," "Dark City," and a video game TV commercial. Consequently, I'm 100 times more interested in seeing "Batman Begins" or even "The Fantastically Mis-Cast Four" than "Sin City." And what the hell is a Ferengi doing in this film?

That's a pretty glowing collection of reviews. Now, as far the bitches complaining about this, I trust that you're just a bunch of malcontents who need to find hobbies - at last we've been given what looks like a truly original product, with a killer cast, based on one the most major talents of the comic medium, directed by a true auteur. What the fuck are you complaining about? No Super Heroes? I don't know where to start with a ridculous assessment like that. For the love of God if anything deserves a chance this is it.

It's okay if you're not truly a comic book fan. You're a superhero fan, sure, but not a true comic book fan. Your narrow definition of what is or isn't a comic book or a comic book movie makes you a retard, but hey, you know what they say about opinions and assholes. I still can't believe that your critical thinking skills are so underdeveloped that you look at Batman Begins and Fantastic Four and say "gee, they look way better than Sin City." That said, I think this is a perfect example of what could make comic book films in the future better: collaboration. How about more fucking comic book writers and artists working with film directors?

So, let me get this straight: if you're a "comic book" fan, then EVERY FUCKING FILM made from a comic book, strip or graphic novel deserves your attention? Wow, so that means we should all run out and see "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," "Road to Perdition," "From Hell" and "Sin City" just because they were originally done as COMICS?! Give me a goddamn break. I liked Miller's work on "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Daredevil," but I don't give one-billionth of a rat fuck about seeing an ultra-violent version of "Dick Tracy" that looks like a FUCKING VIDEO GAME -- and I'm not alone in this assessment, as other Talkbackers here have expressed similar opinions. As for my "critical thinking skills," I agree that more directors should work with comic artists and writers -- but that doesn't change the fact that a.) the "Sin City" trailer looks like a video game, b.) I still have little interest in seeing it, its "graphic novel" heritage notwithstanding, and finally, c.) you can kiss my ass if I offended your poor widdle sensibilities, and stomped all over your precious little film that's going to die a quick death at the box office.

Your constant Dick Tracy comparisons are completely unfounded. Sure, easy to say, but what do you really mean by that? There are little to zero similarities between the two films. C'mon, give me one. I didn't say that being a comic book fan means seeing every comic book movie. I stated that being a comic book fan is about more than just superheroes. Because comic books are not just about superheroes. Fuck, comic books didn't even START with superheroes. You're a complete and utter fool if you are predicting that Sin City will "die a quick death at the box office." You didn't "stomp" Sin City in any way, shape or form. Your criticisms are paper thin. Just because a film uses CGI, it's a videogame, huh? And my criticism about your lack of critical thinking skills was over the fact that you think Batman Begins and fucking Fantastic Four look better than Sin City, not whether or not comic book writers and artists should collaborate with directors. Reading is fundamental. It is my assertion that you are a casual reader of comic books and only the brightly colored ones seem to catch your eye. It is also my assertion that you know very little about comic book as an art form.

When I saw the official TV trailer the other week, I was really scared when I saw they put a bra on Marv's shrink when she's pulling the gun out of her dresser. I saw the original footage from the comic convention where she was topless (as in the comic). Of the hundreds of scenes they could use in the trailer, why put in an edited on unless it's going to be in the movie that way? My only hope was that maybe they censored it like the ass shot in the Shaolin Soccer trailer. But still... why? It just gave me shivers that maybe they were recutting the thing to a PG-13 rating. I was especially scared since we're only 2 weeks out and it's still unrated. So I had visions in my head of a lame-ass, balless vision of what should CLEARLY be a hard-R film. Then all the good stuff would be in the DVD. So it gladdens my heart that that's not the case... that Sin City will be the hyper-violent raunchfest it should be. Opening day I'm there.

We're supposed to believe you WEREN'T comparing the Sin City trailer to the Dick Tracy film? That you were in fact comparing Sin City the comic and film to the Dick Tracy comic strip? What a joke. There's zero "oddball technology" in Sin City. I've read both the source materials we're discussing, and I'll tell you what: the violence in Dick Tracy has nothing on the violence in Sin City. You're a fucking sorry fool if you expect anyone to believe you meant the Dick Tracy strip and not the film in your intials posts. So pathetic!

of an ad campaign. In your mind, letting fans decide on a COMMERCIAL somehow comprises Nolan's film. And what's the big with Scarecrow on a horse? You know where else they've had Scarecrow on a horse? In the comic, via Loeb and Sale. I don't know why I have to make this post at all though. Fanboys need to start learning that there allowed to like one film without having to try to prove its merits by pointing out how other films suck, or in this case, fanboys need to learn that they're allowed to like pre-movie release hype for one film without...eh, its just getting ridiculous now.

And Batman and Sin City couldn't be farther apart. Sin City is a series of stories, each with beginnings and ends, done by one writer/artist, its much more like adapting a book than a comic book. Batman has what, 60-70 years of history, how many artists, writers, open ended stories, and different takes on the character? When you're adapting comic books, especially of the long running never ending super hero sort, you're not adapting source material, you're using characters and ideas. And most movies don't camp up they're superhero source, I know we're all comic fans and we like to hold onto this ideas of relevance to literature with our comic books, but if we're honest and look at the history of our superheroes, most ARE camp, the good movies are the ones that tone that down.

Your criticism is ridiculous. The characters in the book are very distinct from one another, in appearance AND in dialogue. And Miller hasn't tried too hard to be cool, he's paying homage to the crime noir genre. And for those whose only knowledge of that genre is Dick Tracy, may I suggest the names Chandler, Spillane........?

Truth is, moviemack, I know who Frank Miller is (the question was rhetorical) and you're perfectly entitled to believe he's the cat's meow; but I have never been a big fan of his and there's little in this flick that appeals to me. Well speaking of putting words in people's mouths, I never said anything about the characters in Sin City and Batman either. I was talking exclusively about them as source material, which is what you were discussing, though since my point seemed to go over your head I'll try to be clearer. I was pointing out that its much easier to remain uncomprised to a source that lends itself to movie-style story telling, or namely, story telling with a beginning and an end. Batman does not, while Sin City you can remain uncomprised because you can go straight to one book, one story, one writer, you can't do that with Batman, or any superhero comic, and instead have to appeal to characters and ideas. Nolan may be aimed at recreating some sense of James Bond from when he was younger, but there are also many Batman writers and artists who did the same thing, does that alone make him unfaithful to the source? Does it mean he's working with less integrity with his adaptation? The difference between Sin City and Batman is that Sin City there is ONE right way to adapt the story, and, as with most adaptations, a film maker can choose how closely he wants to follow that path. Nolan doesn't have that luxury with Batman, as even the comic writers and artists themselves contradict the character and its ideas, so Nolan has to make decision, in regards as to what he wants to bring to his story. Does it mean he's compromised the character of Batman? Not really, though he may have to compromise the comic as its developed, changed, and evolved over its history.
