Damn enter key! Anyway, how about Sumotori... fits for his size, comments about being a warrior and competing in tournaments, and his nickname would work for that profession. -Half

...competitive eating! It's gotta be! How did he get the nickname "Hurley"? He bit off more than he could chew! Think "Lard Ass Hogan" at the blueberry pie contest in the classic movie "Stand By Me"!
Or Hurley could be the webmaster of a movie website?

Is this going to be the format of the show for the next 4 years? How long until we get flashbacks about someone's painful hangnail, or the time they watched the Munsters marathon on TV? I had hoped there would be less flashbacks and more funky island plots...

...That none of the survivors were meant to be on the plane (Jack's dad died, Kate got caught, Lock wasn't allowed on the Walkabout, Sun was supposed to leave etc.) but I've also noticed that it seems likely that all of the survivors have killed someone in the past (Jack as a surgeon, Jin was most likely a hitman for Sun's father, not too far of a stretch for Lock or Sawyer). I'm not sure if that really works for all the other survivors (the random ones that aren't actual characters), and it might be insignificant, but I thought it was interesting.

Aw, c'mon! I really hope the writers don't go the easy route again (like in Charlie/Merry's flashback episode) and go with the fat D&D nerd with glasses stereotype that has a website and ....eh...I think I had a Deja-Vu... but I can't make ends meet ...where I've seen that before? *wink, wink*

First, the D&D thing, I think will come into play. If he's played D&D, then he'll probably be the guy who deciphers the cave maps for them, huh? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++ Second, I think it's possible he was in a gang.
It seems obvious to me, but no one's mentioned it:

He's a GANGBANGER. "I'm something of a warrior myself." Big motherfucker like that would be useful in a flight, except he probably did lose a taste for violence when someone close to him got killed with him watching. He threw up, hence the nickname. Now he's running, like everyone else on that plane seems to be.

Stupid reflexes. Anyway, my aunt & I are fans of the show, and between the two of us, we've managed to work up the following theory about Hurley's background. Hurley's a powerlifter. That's why he was in Australia, for a tournament. He's an overall nice guy, and a church guy. Not a hardcore, abortion protest Freak, but you know, the type of guy who's on the bread line passing out food, and sincerely trying to help people instead of telling them how to live their lives for the sake of feeling superior. A big brother, maybe, acting as a protector because he was always given shit about his weight. His weight is a sticking point w/ him, maybe. He sees the weight, and others see the soul, and as the show progresses he will as well. Now, as to Shannon & Boone: Either a sick-ass "Flowers in the Attic" type scenario, or Boone's sexually abused Shannon most of her life. Thoughts?
