Thank you, Mr. Cheadle, for making me laugh. And it's unfortunate that the only genocides Hollywood seems to care about is "The" Holocaust and science fiction ones. If anything, a politically-charged movie that tries to change that should be noticed just by virtue of its existence.
great interview with a great actor...

Loved the interview...Cheadle is just flat freakin' fantastic. Which is why I am WAY unhappy to hear that Tishimingo Blues isn't in preproduction or shooting but in limbo. When I read the book (it's Elmore Leonard and it's awesome) I remember thinking "Don Cheadle would own the movie version of this". A few months later, I read he was indeed involved in the project and was thrilled. Harry, Drew, AICNers....if you want to see an Elmore Leonard tale done RIGHT by one of the best actors working today, fire up your contacts and get T-Blues on the front burner somewhere. You won't be sorry.
I love how liberals can declare us "all culpable" for "the world

...which one is it, lefties? Do you want us to leave those noble aborigines to their peaceful, pure, one-with-the-earth ways (i.e., let them continue with their genocides and atrocities) or do you want us to intervene and bring the dictators down (i.e., Iraq)? Because you can't have it both ways. We can stop "ignoring" Africa. But "paying attention" to Africa will probably involve troops, bloodshed, occupation of various parts of the continent and a cure that, in the early stages at least, will probably look worse than the disease. Choose one and be consistent, for Christ's sake. Oh, and BTW. Africans are killing Africans in Africa. Not Americans, not Europeans, Africans. You may feel "culpable," Mr. Beaks, but I've never picked up an automatic rifle or a machete and killed anyone in Africa. Enjoy your liberal guilt if you must, but leave the rest of us out of it.

If we want to intervene somewhere on humanitarian grounds I am all for it. Unfortunately, that was Bush's second try at justifying the war and I'm still not convinced. The other problem is that even though we "claim" that we are doing this to save the Iraqis we sit on our hands with Darfur because they just don't matter much to us just like Rwanda didn't. Hypocrisy ,that is where us liberal hippies have a problem.

Hello dumbshits, James Brown here, and I is in a foul mood. So some dumb punk on this board talked like war and help were the same goddammn thing, well they ain't. Those people in Africa were killin' themselves and we jus said, nah it ain't happening, like we all couldn't smell the shit in the room, well some of us could and it STANK! Lookey here if I punch Jimmy Two Teeth in the fucking head cause he stole my last bottle of Knobb Creek (which I stole lass week from Georgie) then I am protectin myself and my pro-por-tee, and that is not unlike some wars we start, understand so far bitches!? Nah if I see two hoes trying to cut each other up with knives and shit, like Judy Tuna and Wendy Slut (the one with the large brown eye) were doing the otha week, Im gonna stop dat shit cause that is jus wrong. See why should I let them cut each utha up, can't we just sit back and have a drink and leave each otha the fuck alone. Plus when helped Wendy Slut she made it oh so worth my while. So that's what I say. Plus, and this is the last I will speak of all of this, I think that the man here in this country doesn't really care about the African, and I say that is BullShit, why does the brotha neva get the help, why? Well that is all, have a happy holidays!

I've been a big Cheadle fan since "Picket Fences," and I'd say his underappreciation was criminal if he himself didn't seem so intent on avoiding the possibility of commercial success. I don't see him getting called in for a lot of Will Smith roles, but then again, Will Smith's personality was the only thing that saved a lot of his movies, and earned him his dollars. I know it sucks to have to create your own characters, but I'd much rather see an artist like Cheadle pulling it off than to see Smith play "Will Smith" for the umpteen jillionth time. Anyway, Cheadle is a great talent, which explains his wealth of appearances, and I hope he continues to have outings as substantial as "Hotel".
Wasn't this a sitcom on UPN?

I thought Hotel Rwanda was an American remake of Fawty Towers starring Marla Gibbs as fast-talkin', wise-crackin' Rwanda. I swear that this ran on UPN around 1993.
Good stuff

I love all mouth frothing right-wingers coming out like they give a shit about Africa. Personally, I'd advocate interventionsim as a broad policy - but only as a consistent broad policy. That means spreading peace and democratic ideals in ALL diactatorship scarred nations, not just the stategically valuable oil-rich ones. Would Bush ever advocate such a policy? Of course not. What does he stand to gain from intervening in the Sudan? What did the world (including the US) stand to gain from intervening in Rwanda in 94? Nothing. The US, UN, Clinton, Bush - no one comes out of any of this smelling of righteous roses. All are equally culpable. There's no such thing as humanitarian intervention. Power, dividends, influence - this is what all wars boil down to. So please, right-wingers, stop acting as if you're spreading light to the dark corners of the world...until you're prepared to go against neo-con doctrine and condemn the dictatorships of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and countless other non-democratic US allies.
