Hugh Laurie is a veteran of English comedy if I'm not mistaken, Mark Addy is playing sitcom on "Still Standing", and they both use a pretty convincing American accent. How does this play in the UK? If an American actor went for a British accent for a British show, I suspect they'd be accused of trying too hard. What do Brits think of Renee Zellwegger (sp?) as Bridget Jones?

you do realize that if setting is the main criteria for originality, Lost wouldn't be considered very original, don't you? (i really hope there was some intentional irony in your post, knocking House for it's hospital setting, but praising Lost for it's island setting, when neither exactly what I'd call groundbreaking. it's what happens in those setting that makes all the difference)

Why no mention of 'The Inside' yet?

Anybody else surprised that Herc so far hasn't once mentioned or pushed down our throats the fact that 'The Inside' which begins on Fox in January is about as close to a Whedon show as we're going to get in the near future. Showrunner is Tim (the best Angel/Firefly writer not called Joss)) Minear and Jane (the best BTVS writer not called Joss) Espenson has been involved in the writing, usually this would mean at least one mention a week until it begins to air, or do we assume that the holy grail of writing teams may have dropped the ball on this one??!!??

Loved it. Hugh Laurie is great in a dramatic role and the supporting cast is excellent except for the forced sparring between him and chick who's his boss. I liked the orange guy and the way he couldn't look at him because he just would bust out laughing. I still don't see why he couldn't keep his english accent, but he did a good job with the non-accent. Couldn't tell you where he was supposed to be from statewise, but you can't tell with my husband either...so there you go. Fox will cancel this within the year and replace it with either A. another beach based teen coming of age fuckfest, or b. another reality show with either swapped out spouses and or boy/girl friends or some rich fucker wanting to give away his money to whiney assholes who don't deserve it just as much as he does. Let's see if I'm right.

I liked this very much. It had a lot of cliches, but it played with them well. Loved House's wince when the actor on the TV doctor show he was watching said "When doctors make mistakes, people die!" because someone on this show delivered the same line two acts earlier. The cast was formula (black guy, cute girl, hunky Australian guy), but they joked about it. "I hired the black guy because of his juvenile criminal record; his color had nothing to do with it." "Then why did you hire me?" "You're very pretty." **** I'm no afficianado of medical dramas, so when House gave the teacher the steroid and she recovered her appetite, I was thinking "Hey, he's good" and then when she went blind and started convulsing, I did not see that coming. Probably a genre cliche, but new to me. *** These doctors really are just guessing and making stuff up as they go along, but if you've ever been in a hospital or even signed one of their waivers ("the practive of medicine is not an exact science.") you know that it's true. They are just going on best guess most of the time. *** Hugh Laurie is terrific and if you've never seen it, seek out a movie called "Peter's Friends". Fabulous. Lisa Edelstein is lovely as well. She was one of those people you see now and then; I made a point to learn her name last year when she played the prosecution witness seduced by unethical defense lawyer Alan shore on "The Practice". *** I doubt this show will survive, but it will join Fox's long list of beloved but short lived cult favorites. I plan to stick with it for now.
