Diving, handballs, fouls. Yes he had all the skills and speed to play the game but he was a cheat that should be forgotten about. Pele was a great player. Maradona was a cheat. An absolute cheat, a disgrace to the game and no film about his life will change my opinion about him. Cheat.

if you dont know who diego armando maradona is. As an englishman, beaten by his "hand of god", I can still stand up and say that he was one of the finest sporting talents the world has ever seen. He might have cheated, but his talent was incredible, and anyone would struggle to find a single player in the world now that is NOT a cheat. I would love to know his life story, and will probably buy his book, although I understand the translation into English doesn't quite hit the spot.

... but, alas, I'll have to nominate Jim Belushi instead. He's another fat bastard. His brother certainly had the necessary experience with psychoactive substance abuse, but in his instance it's not something I'd joke about. Oh hell, why not just get Johnny Depp, seeing as he's playing everything else these days. After all, wasn't Diego a bit like a little kid lost in Willy Wonka's Candyland when one gets right down to the heart of it?
Why Maradona? He's not even dead yet!

Asides from all the booze and drugs and health problems Maradonna will always be best known for three things. I'm british and I'll never forget it, World Cup 86....Argentina Vs England...in just one game he gave football two of the most infamous goals ever. The greatest cheat goal in history, the " Hand Of God " followed by simply the greatest goal of all time. Not too mention lifting the world cup at the end of it all. This is the story the fans want to see, this is what made him a legend. Yes u should show us his personal demons but don't centre the whole fucking story on it. Otherwise it'll just become yet another fucking depressing drug film that'll find it's way into cinema's and no one will want to watch it.
MARADONA IS THE SHAME OF ARGENTINA

First, Argentina is one of the most racist countries on the planet. They treat their own dark skin people like animals. They are so ignorant and pedantic that they care more about a cheating, drug addicted, ignorant piece of shit soccer player like Maradona than the fact that their own country has been on the verge of economic disaster for the past 15 years. They are more interested in letting their hair grow long and look like hippies who haven't taken a shower in a couple of weeks because they think they look more European if they do that, oh, and their soccer "idol", like most Argentinean players, thinks it's ok to cheat as long as they are not discovered by the referee (no wonder they call him "the Golden Hand", because he scores using it even though it is illegal to do so). What can you expect from a country that idolized that other ignorant, fascist, and racist individual, Eva Peron? That's ok, they are what they deserve to be, and Maradona better don't try to sneak into this country again since we don't want junkies here. Go to CUBA, you fat bastard, and die happy there from a nice overdose, so the people in your church (yes, argentineans are SOOO IGNORANT they actually created a church around this bastard, an actual church with hymns as if he were a saint) can finally take over your country and finish it off once and for all. Amen.

5secondfuse, i think the article was saying it would start in 2000 and then be told in flashback. there's no way a biopick about maradona wouldn't include his world cup highlights and lowlights. it probably won't go too far past 2000, in fact, if it's all done in flashback.

Well, don't worry, they don't think much of you either from what I've heard, what with the whole Falkland islands thing. I think all the English should be happy that Maradonna's first goal was a handball, because then they can say "well, we might have won if he hadn't cheated" even though they probably would have been thrashed anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like the English but this bitterness over the hand of god really pisses me off. His second goal was the most amazing goal in World Cup history, he was one of the greatest players of all time and all you can do is bitch about his hand of god goal. Sore loosers if you ask me. Pele is actually the greatest player of all time according to a lot of people but Maradonna's story would make a better movie I reckon, because he's got the whole tragic drug addiction at the end, whereas Pele's been too dignified to make an interesting movie from.

...Whatever het said! Amigo, you hit the spot. And to the maradona bashers: yes, he cheated, hand of God etc... Not a nice thing to do, I agree. But hey, England already WON a worldcup, they dont make a fool out of themselves in every major competition, whereas Spain...well...depressing stuff I can tell ya. Every 4 years, It just downright sucks to be spanish. I dont like the guy,but If maradona was spanish and made us champions of something once, just once...I would kiss his ass, I'm not proud of it, but I would...what I'm trying to say is, well you know, eh...I know I was trying to actually say something and make a point or something, but I forgot what it was, sorry. Carry on!

...arguing about who is the best soccer player in the history of the sport. Pele argues, "I am the best because all of the world's soccer experts say I am." Mardona then fires back by saying, "No, I'm the best because God told me I am." A bystander watching the argument shouts at Maradona, "Shut up Diego, George Best has never spoken to you!". And there you have it.

Scotsmen.Maradona's life should not be a film,Just like Ali the archive footage is enough and can never be topped by any tinny film with mini me in the title role.He was a cheating bastard and I (Englishmen) will never forget(the only other time I had seen such injustice was Espana 82 when Germany skanked France in the semi) but in saying that a lot of his countrys pride was invested in that match, just as it was for us when we beat them in 2002 and he who laughs last...;>,however his skill can not be denied and he is one of the funniest characters of all time(anyone see that documentary a few years back?,jokes)and despite eveything there is a place for him in the world(a reality show maybe!!).Heres how I would like to remember him..http://smokewalls.com/arc hives/images/maradona.jpg.

Have to agree with some of the other comments here; personally I think he probably is the greatest footballer I've ever seen, but regardless of that, he's been one of the most famous and controversial sportsmen in the world for more than 20 years in the greatest sport there'll ever be. Seems pretty weird that he's so unknown in the States and I don't know what that says about US isolationism. And as an Englishman who saw the 'Hand of God' game live, despite the fact that he cheated, Argentina thrashed us fair and square in that match.

England would not have been thrashed. Where do you get that idea from? The score in the game was 2-1, and Maradona's second goal was scored when England were still shellshocked by the blatant cheating of the first. It's hard to call it the most amazing goal in world cup history for this simple reason. And are you really saying you wouldn't be bitter if someone cheated blatantly to knock your team out of the later stages of the biggest sporting contest in the world, then grinned smugly about it? Read Maradona's autobiography. It'll make you want to strangle him.

If you want to get some idea of who Maradona was, think of Michael Jordan, only more famous worldwide. Make him stumpy and hairy, make him a cheater, and turn him into a fat crack addict in later life. But keep the talent.

That's right I said it (even though I probably spelled his name wrong, and most of you don't know who he is). And for the Spanish guy lamenting that they've never won a championship, get in the bitching line behind Portugal. Two Juniors championships back-to-back, the so-called "golden generations", and then nothing. It could have all been redeemed at the Euro Cup, and then they go and lose in their own house to Grease??, who previous to that tournament had never won an iternational soccer match. Now who's bitter!
