Films like this do nothing for me, though I am sure there is a market for them because they sure as crap are churnin' em out! Once again I would like to give a shout out to Billy Bob's hairpiece! Keep it glued down dawg!

But isn't our yearly feel-good sports movie just a remake of a remake of a remake, et al?

How is having the star running back go down with a season ending injury taking "...a page out of Varsity Blues...", when that's what happens in the book? Isn't that taking a page out of the "Friday Night Lights" book? And wasn't Varsity Blues verrrrry loosely based on FNL anyway?
I, for one, love sports movies...

but it seems a shame that the nasty race relations of the town have no part of this movie, unless the reviewer simply left that out. But there's a great article in Sports Illustrated by the author in last week's issue, check it out if you're at all interested in the strange little world of southern high school football towns.

I remeber going to Permian games when I was a kid. Small, lightning fast runners always seemed to pull off the big plays in every game, the kind of plays the reviewer is bitching about. Anyways, I'm seeing the movie tonight at a media screening. I'll tell you later how I feel about it.
if it's got "i wanna be your dog" in the soundtrack, i'm seeing

It's kind of hard to steal a page from a fictional film when the one you are filming ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!

I write this from the perspective of a lifelong Odessa resident and film geek: Peter Berg nailed it. Minimal scripting, washed out color palette, utilizing dusty gritty textures and shades and a terrific, compelling musical score from Austin
Texas football rules you all!!!
