The only good that can come out of this will be having the cartoons available on DVD. It's such a shame that the new 'He-Man' series on Cartoon Network' got cut short. (Thanks mostly to Mattel's inept thinking.) That series had so much potential. Maybe we'll get some animated DVT movies that'll pick up where the series left off.

But I don't recall any homoerotic references in He-Man. In fact I always thought there was an insane amount of sexual tension between He-Man and Teela. Not to mention a love triangle between Adam, He-Man (who were the one in the same!!) and Teela. Speaking of, Jessica Biel has my vote for Teela. Hell yeah!!!!!!

It's actually kind of refreshing. Now I don't have to think about him as the cinematic Boston Red Sox - which one will we see, the edgy, exciting one that keeps you riveted, or the craptastic suck-fest that makes you want to curse God and this miserable earth. John Woo isn't the same cat who directed classics like Hard-Boiled... He's now the cross-over wash-out who dircted crap like Paycheck and MI:2... and sorry but He-Man was always some over excitable gay-man's true fantasy- We who had the figures when we were mere tykes didn't know any better- but now some muscle-bound blonde in a loin-cloth swinging a giant sword appears far too gay... A perfect fit perhaps for the unintentional humor of Woo's latter day flicks... Gang way as I take a steaming dump on this movie- here it comes- unghhh! here it comes- unghhh! here it is... ungggggghhh WHAT A LOVELY SNAKE COIL OF CRAP FITTINGLY BEJEWELING THIS WOO-HE-MAN CELLULOID BUTT SUCKER

It should be interesting. Woo's directing style has always been there. It's his project selections that have been suspect. Though M.I.2 could've worked if Tom Cruise didn't meddle with the script, direction, and the stunts. Only one major 80's cartoon franchise left, (two counting Robotech) G.I. Joe. ...I always watched He-Man on weekdays, not because I liked it, but because it came on after Voltron (the Lions) and before Transformers so aI needed something to look at while I waited. That said, I always found He-Man very gay...and a talking tiger who became a Battle-cat...stupid. The best thing about that cartoon is when he became He-Man and turned the tiger into Battle Cat and Skeletor- he was money. That said, John Woo needs to go back to China and make some more kick ass action movies with Chow Yun Phat.

Especially Frank Langella's Skeletor, how could you not love the scene where he humbles the 4 warriors who failed him before vaporising one of them? His whole scenery-chewing ruled. Never mind the fact that no-one ever questions why the Eternians speak perfect English with mostly American accents despite coming from a completely different part of the universe; it didn't bother me as a child and it shouldn't bother us now. PS...THIS IS OLD NEWS. I read this in Empire about a year ago I think, it was in the same issue that featured previews of Return of the King and Matrix Revolutions. News? I don't think so.

... which begs the question, why not go directly to the "Source" (pun obviously intended) and direct a New Gods movie? The director of the original MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE has always maintained that he was inspired by Jack "King" Kirby's Fourth World books and even mentions it in the accompanying director's audio comentary of the DVD. Many, including John Byrne, picked up on this upon its initial release. When you consider that Star Wars blatantly stole ideas from the comic book (acknowledged by George Lucas' wife at the time), it is unbelievable to me that no studio has seized upon the opportunity of bringing the ORIGINAL epic series to the big screen. Instead, we are going to get a lame-ass Fantastic Four movie which, in no way, resembles the comic book. Such a pity.

The cartoon was good, but even the cartoon had it's weaknesses. My guess for people to play the title character will start off with some teen as Young Prince Adam, than he'll magically transform into The Rock, or Thomas Jane, or Arnold. Hell, anybody could really play the part, but I bet anything John Woo will probably pick somebody he's already worked with before. I mean look at "FACE/OFF" and "WINDTALKERS"- Nicholas Cage. I do believe John Woo has gone wild with not having the same originality he had before. My suggestion would be go back to Japanese kung-fu movies, or shoot em' ups, or action-packed smart films like "FACE/OFF." That was a damn good film and if Woo could go back to his old routes he'd save himself from mediocricy. His "TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES" idea would've been cool to see, but the men in suit Turtles are where it's at. Stick with the Jim Henson Turtles, not the Saban turtles, or the CGI turtles. And get old Kevin Clash back for Splinter, Corey Feldman for Donatello, and the original cast, but get a new April. Anywho...to make this short. I'm kind of skeptical of "SPYHUNTER" mainly because I think The Rock went from suck with "THE SCORPION KING" to awesome with "THE RUNDOWN" to just plain suck again with "WALKING TALL." As far as I see it if "SPYHUNTER" sucks again expect his stardom to fall and him to be sent back to the wrestling ring for more chair shots and more looking up Trish Stratus's skirt and thong.

Where do you motherfuckers come up with this shit?! I watched He-man avidly as a kid and gotta tell ya the last fuckin thing I thought about when watching it was fucking sex. (This coming from a guy who was sexually active at the time) I think all this homo shit comes from people who can't seperate themselves from their dicks long enough to read a paper, watch a flick or cross the fucking street. People who see sex in every nook and cranny are sex obsessed and just plain sad motherfuckers. Having said that, as an animator my opinion on the more recent cartoon is that the character design and shading look like pure shit compared to the original (take some fucking anatomy courses you fucks), can't say anything about the story since the visuals kept giving me dry heaves... at first I despised the original live action movie, I would have totally went in another direction, but I was eventually pulled in by Frank Langella's performance, fucking awesome "..and as you die so shall I be reborn." good stuff

We need a more Old Hollywood-style approach to this property, not a Hong Kong take (especially with a director whose penchant is for graphic violence). I think that paranoia and the ever-encroachcing gay communitte has finally fried a few brains and tinted everyone's glasses a bit purple. Not every big buff strongman is automatically Gay! ESPECIALLY in a cartoon series from 1984. It's merely the stereotypical strongman hero type, an archetype that goes back to Superman and ever farther to Hercules. No gay undertones inplied when He-man was on the air and none that should be taken now just because it's a popular thing to do. I know the Gay Communite would like everyone to think that everything everywhere is gay to make themselves feel more comfortable, but that's not the way things work. No homoerotic undertones at all, in fact I seem to recall our good Prince Adam had a bit of an affection for Teela (you remember, that FEMALE character?). Just because it's politically correct to Gayify everything under the sun doesn't make it right.

Here's a short history to answer your simple question. The new Masters Of The Universe cartoon was very highly rated and the comic sold pretty well. Problem was that Mattel, in all their infinite wisdom (*cough*idiots*cough*), decided to pack cases of six figures with (literally) 4-5 goofy looking variations of He-Man or Skeletor instead of the rest of the cast. When the glut of Ice Armor He-Mans and Fire Armor Skeletors (and their many, many more worthless variations, go take a look at any current Batman line in Wal-Mart and you'll get the idea) wouldn't sell, Mattel shitcanned the line, despite being told for an entire 2 years that thay were overpacking the main two and not nearly enough of the secondary characters (you know, the one's that collectors and kids actually want to complete their collections). With no line to promote, they shitcanned the cartoon. They've even put so many restrictions on what can and can't be done in the comic that the company producing it just ditched it for a lack of anything to do with it. Recently there's been talk of reintroducing it again as a collector's line, but this won't bring back the show. The fact that this movie's now confirmed (someone mentioned that it's old news, but it's actually only been rumor until now) kind of implies that Mattel's planning on relaunching this thing to the masses asain, which could mean a resurrection for the show. Just pray that they don't fuck it up again.

We're not saying the original INTENT of He-Man was that he was gay, only that he has become something of a gay icon. So don't worry, enjoying the show as a child is not a threat to your insecure sexuality. Jesus. Liberace - ACTUAL gay gay icon. He-Man - unintentional gay icon. Get it? And Gayzilla, in addition to having a clever handle, the Teela crack was great. Never thought of her as a transvestite. Now I'm questioning MY sexuality... curiouser and curiouser.

is a scared closet homosexual. You know, for most people (straight people) thier sexuality is hard wired right into thier DNA. For guys exspecially the very thought of two dude getting it on, well, it churns thier stomache. It doesn't mean they secretley want to take it up the cornhole...they really are just grossed out by it on the most basic of levels. Women tend not to be grossed out so much by the thought of gay sex, because for them sex tends to be more emotionally based, not so visual and physical like it is for men. So don't buy into the bullshit that anyone who is grossed out by the thought of gay sex is actually a closet homo. It just isn't true, it's a myth, and it's propogated by gays and liberals. You can be grossed out by gay sex and still be tolerant of other peoples lifestyle. Gays shouldn't try to force people to "like" what they do in the bedroom, or try to force people to not think it's gross. That's a loosing battle...a battle that will never ever be won as long as there are straight men alive on the planet. So lets just go for tolerance.

and if it came across that way, then I need to re-check my posts. My point was that there's no reason for people to suddenly become outraged or shocked when something they grew up (in this case, he-man) with is suddenly claimed as a gay icon. I pretty much fit your description - I'm straight, I'm repulsed by the CONECPT of physical gay sex, but don't have a problem with it philosophically. I'm grossed out by the concept of golden showers, too, but if that drives your train, who am I to derail it. AND, I agree that much of Hollywood is "going gay" to the extreme, which in some ways is a detriment to gays by making them seem silly, bubbleheaded goofs, much like many black-casted programs and movies do blacks a disservice by making the general, whitebread public think that all blacks are either goofy comic misogynists, foul-mouthed cops, or crooks....... Shit... lost my train of thought... oh, right. Anyway, the point is that just because a particular group has adopted your childhood toy/cartoon, does not mean it is actually gay. Did that help de-confusify? Or just re-confusify.

The new He-Man cartoons are pretty good I have to admit. I don't remember the classic one as much though. Although, does anyone else remember the girl He-Man from the cartoon? I believe it's like Shee-ra or something like that. Anyway, I think the reason they stopped airing is because people had trouble following its time change. At first it was on Fridays, but then they came out with their Saturday block and moved it there. Now that Saturday block of toons changed to Toonami. Last time I saw He-Man, it was the one about He-Man versus the Snake people. Long story short, where is He-Man, Kenshin, and Samurai Jack? Bring them back!!!!!!!!!!

But it's worth pointing out that the WHOLE reason Masters of the Universe ever got started was because Mattel made a bunch of action figures for "Conan the Barbarian" before they figured out it wasn't actually a kid's movie, so they dyed the heads blond, put different accessories on it, and invented a whole other story so they could make use of the figures and not lose money... thus, they had some people put together a cartoon to support the toy line... 's a fact Jack...
