Hope so

So far I'm having a really hard time picturing Carrey as Kaufman. I hope he can pull it off. Generally, I think he's underrated as an actor. Between a good job here and the work he did in the Truman Show maybe he'll be able to move up in people's estimation a bit.
Me to. Also:

Yeah, I am incredibly pumped for this movie, but even more than Carrey alone I am psyched to see the interplay between Carrey and Paul Giamatti (Pig Vomit) as Bob Zmuda. That guy has really emerged over the past year. By the way, Harry, for what little it's worth against all the tirades, I kind of enjoy reading about your life. It's a cool vicarious thing, and it makes the site more than a news outlet.

Man, Jim Carrey is just so cool. He may get two academy awards in a row (considering the Best actor possibility with "The Truman Show"). The movie will kick ass!

Jim is a good actor and Milo is a maverick drector but c'mon. Carrey as Kauffman??? Kauffman was probably the craziest, funniest comedian of all time. Carrey is the craziest sellout box office draw of all time. Do you see what I'm saying? In order for Jim to truly pull it off he has to totally abandon his sense of humor and adopt Andy's. I've never seen Jim do that in any of his films and deep down, I don't think he'll do it.

Does anyone know who will play Jerry "The King" Lawler in this flick. My vote is for the man to play himself.

It has been confirmed by various sources including the IMDB that Jerry "The King" Lawler will indeed play himself in the film.

Well, ain't it looovely cyberspace we all inhabit. On behalf of all regular, intelligent and most of all, amused readers, I would like to offer my sympathies. It truly saddens me when a whining little turd, apparently emulating a human being, feels the urge to post the same hateful message multiple times. Perhaps he just likes to see his worthless, crappy statement multiplied because he hasn't the imagination to come up with new ones. However, keep up the good work, Harry and even though I frequently disagree with you I will make sure to post my arguments in a tad more civilized manner than the impotent little wormfucker of a toiletbrush who felt the need to multiply his "comments". Excelsior to you and yours.

There was a Andy Kaufman retrospective on E! or Comedy Central (I forget which)last night. Seems like someone saw it and got the idea for a bogus letter. Or not...
idiots on the internet

You have to get a license to drive a car, but anyone can buy a computer. I'm not sure, but I think idiotic postings prompted Mr. Showbiz to delete the reader reviews section from their movie review sight. I hope that Harry doesn't do the same here. I like reading everyone elses intelligent talk-back and commentary, but when idiots invade a sight it spreads like wild fire. Let's hope it's kept to a minimum here. Regarding Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman, I think he is going to be fantastic. I'm not a big fan of the "method" but if thats what it it takes for Jim to do it, then more power to him. Have fun in London Harry .

Maybe Jim should start running around like Hunter S. Thompson.

I still can't get over the fact that the source for this one is a butler from the Playboy mansion. Wow. That's simultaneously the best, the worst, and the coolest job I can think of...
Jim Carrey and Kaufman on the Moon

As a big fan of Kaufman from before, I greet Jim Carrey playing the part. So you don't like, whatever, but when someone does what he did to, first of all, get the role, and then, to play it as he thought it should be played, he deserves a chance. When someone has to go through what Jim Carrey has gone through just to get a chance at a serious role, it is just wrong and speaks miles about the biz today. In one scene in Dumb and Dumber or the Cable Guy, I can find more argument for talent than Harrison Ford in a lot of shit he does dramatically, including Air Force One and The Devil's Own. There are about two minutes in Dumb and Dumber when Carrey is more dramatic and, if you want to receive it, more touching than in Goodwill Hunting or Titanic, or anything like that. I think, in many years, Cable Guy will be seen as the genius it was. That shit is so dark, so satirical and self-reflecting, that it is scary. It, I think, is the one film that seriously, did not deserve to "bomb" like people said it did. I bought it the day it came out on video and I think my tape is about to break. Watch it and let yourself go of Carrey, that is the leeway you give good actors anyway (Brad Pitt with an accent? Anthony Hopkins in Legends of the Fall? Nicholas Cage in anything?) Movies are escapism, and if people can not go to the other world and feel they need to criticize one of the hardest working men in the biz (maybe the only actor in that group) then let them. But pay your 7 bucks to see Man and look at Cable Guy again. If Caddyshack can be considered a classic, then why no CG. Chip Douglas ps. Harry ain't so bad. I'd almost say "Ain't-Harry-Cool"
He needs a bath after all this time.
