3D Mystery

When will Cameron finally make it official what this mysterious 3D film will be? I know that Moriarty has said it will be BATTLE ANGEL ALITA and that would make me extremly happy but as much as I trust him I can't be sure until it hits the trades. Isn't he supposed to start filming this November??? Isn't he already deep in pre-production??? So why the mystery?

And may there never be an Indy followup. But, of course, digging carcasses sells to imbeciles, so not only will there be Indy IV, but Indy V, The New Adventures of Young Indy, and then the traditional onanism material for the worst of the idiots - a crossover. Probably "Indiana Jones versus the Terminator" or "Alien versus Indiana Jones versus Predator". Go, go, go!

From what I've read Cameron's deal with FOX states that they have to put the film out in a couple hundred cinemas in 3D. This is a big deal because until now only IMAX cinemas have the necessary equipment. The rest of the theaters will get a regular, non-3D version and that will also be what'll be released on DVD later on. Cameron specifically stated that he invented this technology because it cannot be replicated for home viewing and he wants to bomb folks out of their homes and back into cinemas.

Harrison Ford is sort of like our generations John Wayne ... except he's done more movies like McQ instead of True Grit. Outside of Costner, I can't think of anyone else more suited to sit tall in the saddle (well ... Sam Shephard maybe). Harrison Ford was great in The Frisco Kid ... but that was ages ago (and was a comedy-western). I wish he'd do a full-blown western like Costner's Open Range. That being said, I also wish Cameron would do something other than 3D this and Titanic that. That's all he's done since the Titanic ... film 3D and go and film the Titanic. Is he afraid of choking on his next film or something?

They both stopped making movies in '97. And I don't count IMAX documentaries or tv series. Get that fucking Titanic taste out of my mouth and make a real movie, Jimbo. And drop the gimmicky 3-d nonsense. I don't go to the movies to get a migraine headache and if the story and visuals are up to par I don't need it to be in 3-d to get immersed in it.

Because you're the one that doesn't know shit about Indy 4 apparently. It has been in DEVELOPMENT HELL since 1994 when George Lucas commisioned a script from his own story called Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men Of Mars. You can find it online, but take my word for it that is sucks. It is basically a worst case scenario in how to mess up a series, and who has more experience in doing that than George Lucas? I don't want to get into the last ten years of debacles, but suffice it to say: Indy 4 has a microscopic chance of being good, much less great.

What I have always thought would make a good movie would be for Indy to search out the Tree of Life. In the garden of Eden, God had two trees he forbade Adam and Eve to eat from: the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the Tree of Life. Satan, in the form of a serpent, talked Eve into eating from the former, the Tree of Knowledge. She, in turn, then induced Adam to eat from same. This, of course, resulted in all manner of trouble, including people deciding they needed to wear clothes, men being forced to till the earth (ie - work for a living), women experiencing pain in childbirth (at least until the invention of the epidural), and the serpent thereafter being forced to crawl through the dust on its belly (apparently, snakes used to have feet). More interestingly, perhaps, God drove humankind out of the garden, not so much as punishment, but as a preventative measure. See, they still had not eaten from the Tree of Life. To prevent said occurrence, which, according to God in Genesis, would have run the risk of making people become "like us" (presumably "us" refers to the Trinity [not a reference to Carrie-Ann Moss, losers]), God kicked the humans out of the Garden, and, now here's the cinematic part, placed a fiery sword to guard it, a sword that turns in every direction. Now, how is Dr. Jones going to whip out a revolver to avoid a sword fight, when NOBODY is there wielding the sword?!? See, questions like that are for geniuses like George Lucas (although I'd settle for George the Seventh Chicken) to figure out!

He used the other kind of 3-D with the gray lenses. Worked fine. With SPYKIDS 3-D, they could only have a few brief 3-D moments spread out during the film, so that the audience wouldn't get migraines. Still wasn't good enough. It was literally painful to watch the movie in the theaters.

...ah, I keed, I keed. There's a place for Cameron's documentaries, although most people recognize that without ever actually planning on seeing them. I'm excited to see how this 3-D movie of his pans out, but I don't know if I want to get too invested in its success until it actually goes into production. The Harrison Ford news sounds fake, but we'll see. As far as Spielberg goes...damn, he's been prolific lately. I know the quality of the films he's made lately haven't been that great, or at least inconsistent (I guess I should say that I'm on the "loved 'A.I.'" side though), but no matter how much trash gets piled on him here, we'll miss his presence when he's gone, although if he thinks 'The Terminal' did poorly at the box office because it doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator, he's got another thing coming.

I seriously think that Cameron suffered some sort of brain damage from all the underwater pressure. 3D is not a respectable format for great films to be made in. Why not put "The Tingler" under the theater seats, too, Jim? What a fucking hack. It was bad enough when you repeated scenes from Terminator in T2--another truck chase that leads to a factory fight?! Fuck you, you lazy prick! Ripping off manga, yet again, is not how you make good movies. Remember, everyone, that Jim got his start with Roger Corman and Piranha 2.

"More interestingly, perhaps, God drove humankind out of the garden, not so much as punishment, but as a preventative measure." **** So the omniscient, omnipotent creator of everything can't think of a better way to keep those two from eating from this "Tree of Life"? Here's a thought: why not just leave them where they are and make the Tree of Life disappear? Why the fuck did god put those damn trees there in the first place if he didn't want us messing with them? It's like handing your 5-year-old a loaded handgun and then wondering why he shot himself. This is why religion just cracks me up. How can people believe this crap?

The ignorance of those who call religion nonsense
by AntoniusBloc

BTR's confusion about why God did not make the object of temptation "disappear" to spare His creation of the Fall is an example of a misunderstanding of the Creator(as understood in traditional Christianity). God created us in His image, with the potential of being as close to being like Him as possible, without actually being Him. God could not create another God because that would be a contradiction. THE Creator, the First Cause, cannot logically create a second, or multiple First Cause's, or Creators; so, God created us in His image, to be like Him. However, to be like Him, in the truest sense, requires TRUE growth; and TRUE growth requires free will. That is why God must not hide or eliminate the temptations, and the suffering that goes with it, from His creation, because it would deny them the TRUE growth required to be what God created them to be, and the ability to choose that path, which is goodness and love, freely. To deny his creation TRUE growth requires the free will, the free choices of humans created in His image, otherwise God would be creating robots, or puppets that God simply pulls the strings; such creations are not God-like and could never grow into what God meant them to be. The image of God is not that of a puppet, for His strings are not pulled. That is why the image of God is that of the Father. God created humans as His children, since to be close to His image, His creation must also be part of Him, created from Him, but like God, whose will is free, his children are also given freedom to choose, and the potential to be beings of True love; and to come close to The Creator, requires True growth. When one understands the concept of Free Will, one will understand why God cannot remove the temptations, or the individual free will to either choose them or to choose to become what God created that person to be. So, one might ask, why did an all powerful, all knowing God create us in the first place? Not out of need, for the Creator is not needy. Not out of desire, also not logically part of THE Creator's nature. The only motivation for such a perfect being to create beings like Himself is love. So, if BTR finds the concept of The Fall nonsense, then perhaps he also finds individual free will and love to be nonsense as well. For with the Fall of man also comes the vicarious atonement of man, through the second Adam, Christ, who is literally our brother. Just as sin was passed down to all generations of the human race, so too is redemption, thanks to the grace, mercy, and love of our Creator. Just as the sin of those who submit to temptation are passed on to those who are innocent, so the sufferings and virtue of the innocent can vicariously redeem the guilty.

You seem to be misunderstanding the issue. The issue isn't free will or lack thereof. The assertion was made that Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden, not as a punishment, but as a preventative measure to keep them from eating from the Tree of Life. Under that scenario, god is the one doing the preventing. I'm just pointing out that there is a much better way to prevent them from eating from that tree. Instead of kicking them out, just remove the damn tree. Your whole essay on free will is irrelevant because in this situation, god is deny them the free will to eat from the tree. The only question is why he chose to do it in the more nonsensical way. But if you want to discuss free will, then fine. YOU SAY: "When one understands the concept of Free Will, one will understand why God cannot remove the temptations" **** RESPONSE: If you really understood the philosophical implications of an omniscient god (a god who knows everything), then you'd also understand that free will cannot exist concurrently with an omniscient being. The two concepts are antithetical. YOU SAY: "So, one might ask, why did an all powerful, all knowing God create us in the first place? Not out of need, for the Creator is not needy." **** RESPONSE: You're kidding, right? The entire bible is nothing but a description of the most narcissistic, needy and psychopathic being ever conceived of. The god of the bible has a truly monstrous ego and seems to be inordinately concerned with being worshipped, to the point of condemning the people he supposedly loves to eternal damnation and torment if they don't constantly prostrate themselves before him. YOU SAY: "Just as the sin of those who submit to temptation are passed on to those who are innocent" **** RESPONSE: Any god who makes innocents pay for things they did not do is not loving, by definition. Whatever that is, it's neither love nor is it righteous.

Cameron and Ford to revisit "Ridleyverse" in Blade Runner 2?
by Ivan_Mtl
Sep 8th, 2004
05:19:35 PM
I know it is just wishful thinking on my part, but I would love to see James Cameron directing Harrison Ford in a sequel to Ridley Scott's cult classic, BLADE RUNNER. He did a great job on Aliens, and I know he has great respect for Ridley Scott as a filmmaker in general (the two have been linked to a possible Alien sequel - Cameron would write, and Scott would direct). Unfortunately, it's also pretty well known that Harrison Ford did not care for the film and almost came to blows with the director on the set, so I'm sure he would have little interest in reprising his role (at least with Scott at the helm). It's a shame too. I remember an appearance by the actor on Larry King Live and most of the questions from the callers were related to Blade Runner (which he seemed to quickly dismiss). Too bad. I'm sure that there is a great story waiting to be told. Imagine a film that starts out with replicants trying to enter the country through the San Angeles airport, are detected by the customs' Voight Kampf(?) unit, and subsequently killed. The ensuing autopsy on the female replicant reveals that she was pregnant. As it turns out, a new breed of replicant, the Nexus 7, has been manufactured and it has the ability to reproduce as well as posessing a normal life-span. It is discovered that Rachel is such a model (the prototype) and Blade Runners are set out to "retire" her. As a nod to Cameron's other sequel set in the "Ridleyverse", I would have Lance Henrickson play the new CEO of the Tyrell foundation. As in the first film, where it is quite evident that Deckard is a replicant himself, the big reveal at the end of the sequel is that the entire population of the planet are replicants. Humanity had been facing possible extinction as a result of the loss of their ability to procreate (due to pollution, disease, etc.) and creating the Nexus series was Tyrell's hope of carrying on. Perhaps Tyrell's dream all along was to produce a replicant which could eventually reproduce. The new CEO of Tyrell would have much less altruistic reasons for running the company, and sees the new replicants as threats to the continuing financial success of the company. Anyway, this was an idea that I had written for myself years ago (and I have a great way of bringing Roy Batty back as well). If your reading this, Hollywood, I've got a script! lol ;)

You should go to the worst part of town you live in with $500. Find the biggest, sleaziest homeless person around and pay him $500 to beat the shit out of you. Then tell him you will do whatever he wants for the rest of your life. As he steps on your nuts and hocks a greasy nicotine tinged lugey in your mouth, realize that this homeless guy is a better master than the "god" you profess to worship. A) He actually cares enough about your sacrifices to respond to your needs. B) You can actually feel the force of his power. C) He actually exists. If you want to worship and psychopathic sadist, atleast find a real one.

Gosh, it's fun to bring up religion/God at AICN. People get all fervent and foamy-at-the-mouth and it is SUCH a good show! Still folks, how can you discuss an Indiana Jones movie without bringing up the potential object of his quest? Speaking of which, does anybody know of any Muslim artifacts Indy could go after? I happily confess general ignorance about that religion (except that they seem to hate everybody else). It would be fun to watch Dr. Jones bust some pre-terrorism-era Islamic heads. Or, better yet: Indy knows he's going up against Muslims, so he stations Short Round (or somebody) in the bell tower so whenever Indy is about to get caught or attacked or shot at, Indy signals him, he rings the bell, and the Muslims have to stop, face Mecca, and pray. Now THAT would be hilarious.
BTR1701 vs . Antonius Blockhead

Okay so first Antonius spews right wing conservative dribble on the "Kevin Smith shoots back" thread and now he is trying to push his christian zealot agenda in an INDIANA JONES THREAD? Fuck that, I am not havin' it. Yeah, Indy may have hunted religious artifacts, but he didn't believe in any of it. I'm sorry I already had to unload on Antonius Blockhead on the other thread but this is just foolish. In a world where violence, racism, poverty, political and corporate corruption, violate every aspect of our lives, I cannot fathom how Antonius can be stupid enough to believe that it is all part of some devine plan. Fuck that. Was 9/11 part of the plan Antonius? What about the AIDS epidemic? Where does that fit into the plan? Oh yeah, I forgot you guys don't ask questions of your religious leaders. You just take it all on faith, even when the church seeks to fill its own coffers with our hard earned cash only to molest our children and then deny it. Yeah, you guys have it all figured out. Well, if that's your god's plan then count me the fuck out. I would prefer to think that we are in charge of our own destinies. It is far easier to just assume that "god" has a plan and that he will just fix everything but that is not the way the world works. If the holocaust, the inquisition and the bloodshed in the middle east today are indicators as to what "god" has done for us I think humanity can do without any more favours. Sorry to burst your bubble. That's okay though Antonius, just go ahead and keep spreading your LIES. Just keep listening to how Bush is saving the world from terror and how "god" knows what's best. In fact why don't you turn your brain off and just do whatever the republicans and christians tell you to. Go ahead keep giving the simultaneous reach-around to Jerry Falwell, and John Ashcroft, and while you're at it, offer 'Dubya another Rold Gold, maybe this time it will actually choke him. You aren't going to get into heaven by trying to convert everyone you come into contact with. If you think that you can look forward to some kind of after-party afterlife then fucking forget it. This is the only life you get, and just think you are wasting it spreading someone elses lies (whether it be KING JAMES' lies or the lies that the G.O.P. permeate the airwaves with. So in short, Fuck president Bush, Fuck the republican party, Fuck the Vattican, Fuck the Pope and Fuck you for soiling the sanctity of this board with your naive neo-con christian zealot horseshit!!!
