If Speilberg directs this (and lets face it, it's a pretty big IF) perhaps Stan Winston could get some actual robots into the mix insted of what will have to be nearly all CGI. Not holding my breath on either prospect.

There seems to be some kind of trend developing here. I bet that whoever directs this will be in their late 20's early 30's. Then again, probably not. How about a feature movie about MASK. Remember that? Mobile Armoured Strike Kommand. Vehicles that could transform into different kinds of other vehicles. It was their masks they wore that I liked. Dreamworks. Are ye listening? Mmmm. Too much caffeine I think. Still though, I'm interested in seeing a Transformers movie. I always though the Decepticons had a cooler looking logo than the Autobots. Hi, I'm Optimus sacked our graphic designer Prime. Yeah!!!

For a second there I forgot what the fuck DreamWorks was. But I'm better now! Still, weird (this isn't some sort of abstract dig at DreamWorks, I really forgot what the hell it was).....anyway, cool to hear that Spielberg is keen on distributing the property, even if it's just for moolah. I'm not personally a fan of the franchise, but I'm pretty interested to see how it'll turn out, especially effects-wise.

Hollywood loves CGI. Proof is that they use it even when they don't need to. Now, for those who really want to face this reality, a lot of Hollywood politics has to do not with what most people think, but rather what makes for employment opportunities, and so, be it Dreamworks or New Line, or anybody else for that matter, they will put major production values behind this film due to the heavy amount of CGI necessary. Which means that, at the least, this movie will be given the moola it deserves. Then comes the intangible, that of the creative people hired to write, direct, etc. We can only hope. Personally, I'd love to see a revival of '80s toys made into movies. I've said on posts before that G.I. Joe needs a film franchise (with Michael Clark Duncan as Roadblock and Ray Park as Snake-Eyes--they won't have to worry about his voice like Lucas did). Maybe a Thundercats flick would be cool, too (especially given the martial arts fighting style necessary in this day and age defined by Matrix manuevers). Anyway, I would love to see Transformers be an origins story, to retell the saga from the beginning, though of course with new twists and greater depth than the 3-day miniseries cartoon that first showed us Cybertron and the crash on Earth. All I say is that whoever ends up directing it, take a lesson from Jackson, Raimi and so many others who are setting Hollywood on fire: "Be true to the source material", and I mean that in the spirit as well as the letter.

Stan Winston probably couldn't build a fully functional Transformer but judging by his most recent work, he can come damn close. I was at the L.A. Sci-Fi Convention last summer where Stan was taking part in a presentation for TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES. His effects team had all of the robots featured in the movie on display including the new T-1 models (those tank-like first generation Terminators with the mini guns). At first I thought they were just props until a couple of guys began fiddling with a remote control and the damn things started humming to life and moving across the convention floor. The heads would pivot, the top half would rotate and when they moved past you the fucking floor trembled like it was a tank. These were actual robots that were built for the movie, I'm sure Stan could do something just as good if not better if given the opportunity.
That was supposed to be Optimus Prime in THE DUEL.

This is great. You're telling me Spielberg will essentially be doing the same thing I did when I was ten years old? Coming up with a corny story for Hasbro toys! I've actually heard that Stanley Kubrick started the Transformers screenplay and that Spielberg will be true to his spirit. And why not involve Spielberg? Heck, Orson Welles was involved in the last Transformers movie, right? And he was a MUCH better director than Spielberg. RIGHT!?!?! There are certain details that I really hope Spielberg doesn't gloss over. Optimus had a 10 strength according to my infra-red decoder. And I remember Megatron being below that. If that doesn't figure in during a fight scene this movie will lose all credibility with me. But can he get his head around dialogue like, "ME GRIMLOCK ME KING" - Or will this be about Jazz and Ironhide trying to "find themself" - ?

Can we cut right to the chase and start recommending who we'd like to see PLAYING the Transformers? You KNOW Hollywood is listening. If WheelJack is voiced by anyone other than Al Pacino it will be a TRAVESTY. My goodness. The thought of seeing real live action CGI Transformers is spine-tingling. Thankfully a man I called Internet has already been there and done that. THIS is what it will probably look like: http://home.comcast.net/~themi chaelsmith/VWHiRes.mpg And here, on the other hand is what it will look like if McG (still smarting from you jerks making him lose his sweet Superman deal) gets hold of it: http://www.thegreenhead.com/wa tercooler/2004/06/transformers -breakdancing-video.php ... Or perhaps that's what the George Lucas Special Edition of Transformers will look like. Yeah, BOYYY! One other serious point: Will Spielberg make the Matrix of Leadership an allegorical object that makes a statement about how careful we need to be when choosing a President? Take that Michael Moore, you fattie! Nyurt-Byurt-Vyrut! ROLL OUT! Hah-haaaah! Oh! Oh! And for Spike...! Vin Diesel! Just imagine him sitting in Cliffjumper! "Smoke 'em!" Screeeeeeech! Transformers with Nitrous addiction! Oh, this movie has the potential for DEPTH, you nerds!

Nine Inch Nails has signed on to pay their debt for inspiration. Trent will faithfully sing the words of the immortal NRG: "Instruments of destruction! Tools of power plays! It's a violent eruption! Existence drips away!" Yeah! And Donnie Wahlburg will make a guest appearance as the voice of Hound to rap the Stan Bush classic "You've Got The Touch!" Are you people NOT seeing the potential here? Weird Al will even get back in on the action with a song about how Transformers killed his parents! It will be GREAT!

Actually, while I really respect his nostalgic love for this that he's been hoping to write and direct this sucker himself (I'm curious to read the draft he did), and he does have talent as a music video director, after the sheer travesty that was "Torque," I can breathe easier that he won't be involved. Anybody who would make such a poseur's addition to the already-crappy subgenre of extreme sports movies (begun by "Point Break," ripped of by crap like "Fast And The Furious" and "Biker Boys") that is more concerned with fetishizing the vehicles and looking cool than in involving, emotional storytelling (you need only watch the climax of "Torque," where a guy outraces a bullet and isn't harmed in the least after being thrown from a motorbike going 200 mph) quite frankly has no business taking the reins of something so many of us loved as children. Alas, the scary thing is is that you Hollywood fucks are probably catering more to the undiscriminating actual children who play with the crappier new generation toys like "Beast Wars" and not us overgrown children who actually have our own money to see the movie and buy the DVD and publicize it with our geekish forums like our websites and Aintitfuckincoolnews and what not. So fuck those kids, they don't got SHIT! And if your movie doesn't have Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Jazz, Rumble, Laserbeak and all those old school O.G. transformers, you ain't got shit, either!!

The concept just doesn't have the same appeal for me now. Sentient robots that sprung up from nowhere, traveled billions of miles through space, and decided to replicate stuff on Earth to blend in? Great stuff to make a live action movie out of-- if you're fucking retarded! A GI Joe movie would be more viable than this is. If they have to make another Transformers movie they should make an animated sequel to the extremely well done original feature. It would be nice if Harry could somehow TRANSFORM himself from geek-leftist propoganda spewer back to the fun closet film-geek he used to be.

While Speilberg could bring in something epic, but potentially overblown, Transformers movie, the earliest it could be release is almost 2008. Yet if Zemeckis does take on the movie, then I'm there at midnight. I mean, Zemeckis brings something unique to his films, especially ones that can push him in the cinematic front. If this film is done correctly, then this could be on an epic scale above LOTR. Holy crap, this WILL be amazing...and now, we could see it in the rumored date of December 2006...AWESOME.

On the one hand, kinda cool. On the other hand, this blows. Not just because I heard from inside sources, this will involve major "reimagining" since its so expensive to shoot. In other words, not your Daddy's Transformers. The other is...a fucking Transformers movie? That's great...fucking great. I know they are all in it to make money but come on. I love big dumb movies too. But this sucks. I'm sick of all this mediocre crap. At least, I, Robot had a little thought in it. Not much. But enough I didn't feel 100% insulted. And the original animated movie kicks ass. I own it. We could never expect something that awesome. You've got the touch. You've got the power.

Transformers is just like any other Marvel property, like X-men. In the comics, Transformers were yet another parallel to the civil rights movement by the Marvel team. They were hunted down by others for merely being different..... merely being giant robots who could transform into vehicles. Haha. And the original cartoon could have some great dialogue. It was always directed towards children, but it never spoke down towards them, instead it could feature some decent dialogue from Shakespear. Seriously though, people have a strange belief that mutants with metal claws, or lasers shooting out of their eyes, or webbing shooting out of their hands.. is any more mature than giant robot vehicles. That being said, of course this movie needs to be made for the younger crowd. But just like the original TF movie, it needs to not speak down at 'em, and needs to feature the same Marvel movie storyline and dialogue as any other Marvel movie. It also needs to feature some of the greatest car chase and air combat sequences ever put to film. :) I'm really looking forward to this movie, especially since I'm getting extremely tired of all the standard superhero movies coming out. Catwoman, Ironman, X-men 3, Daredevil 2, Elektra, Superman. Batman Begins. Blech.

"The Polar Express" trailer makes it extremely clear that he's already experienced working with soulless robots, so doing "Transformers" seems like an obvious choice. I'm sorry, potentially "One of the GREATEST movies of all time"? In the words of Dr. Nick, When you were in that coma, did you feel your brain being damaged? Let's face facts: Hasbro marketers brainwashed a generation of young boys to buy some toys, and now, 20 years later, these same boys are grown men entertaining the delusion that "Transformers" actually mean something. They were the Pokemon of their time, pure and simple. The only reason they endure is that there's still money to be made off of them. Spielberg wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot clown pole. Let Michael Bay make it, he can do some machismo-drenched bullcrap that will satisfy the fanbase, at least...

By the time this movie's released the cassette market's going to be about 2% that of CD's in the US. I can just imagine him disguising himself as a "cool tape player," expecting to end up in the Autobot base and... getting thrown in the trash. No matter how they handle this character he's going to suck. A tricked out ride with kicking base wouldn't exactly work as it defeats the purpose of his eject feature. What else could he be? A laserdisc player? An IBM blade server? It all sucks.

well... i would imagine, if the people making this movie are true fans of the show, and if it is going to be the original characters like has been reported, then they would set in in the 1980's like it's supposed to be... so then there would be no problem.

I think if they are going to try to keep the movie fairly realistic as can be and not overly complicated. So I don't see the movie set in the 80's, too confusing to kids. Soundwave I think will either be eliminated or transform into a vehicle. I don't see the writers putting robots in the movie that shrink into to small objects. This movie will have a hard enough time getting some adults to respect it. Soundwave could always poccess some sort of soundwave feature that explains his name. Megatron will definately be something else like a tank.
