I used to love that cartoon, but that story is soooo made up, it looks like Peggy Bundy.

Why would they be scouting locations in Greece for a movie that would be set in deep space? I suspect someone just came up with the Barry Gibb thing (beard, big hair) and riffed it from there. Although it is now hopefullyonly a matter of time before somebody *does* cast Eric Cantona as God.

Hair, teeth, kung-fu footballers, talented director and Eurotrash presenter......NAH, surely not, although this is not the only site with this rumour. Project and director make sense but as for the cast....?

Dunno, smells amiss, like month old asparagus left in the fridge: from the caliber of actors, however, i would dare say animation, rather than live action; lord only knows what kind of Felini-esque, yet cool, nightmare that might be (like live action aint weird enough)

Uly 31 was a fantastic french cartoon that basically shoved the Ulysses story into outer space. Add a few cute robots/aliens and some wacky music/colours and you have the idea. According to Total Film, a UK film mag, this project is def. in development. But I cannot see Barry Gibb playing the big, hunky Ulysses. Anyway, the article mentions companies, budgets, screenwriters, etc. so it sounds kosher. Now put on those damn sunglasses!

True or not, am I wrong in thinking that a story like this is not unlikely within the twisted world of big-budget-film-making? "Who can we get to play Ulesses 31, Larry?" "Gee, I dunno, who's got a beard?" When the revolution comes, Larry will be first against the wall. On the low-budget zeitgeist. Onwards and upwards, brother film-makers.
Ulysses 31 was a great cartoon

I really hope that this film sees the light of day. I don't know how much exposure it got in the US, but the cartoon was really big in France in the early 80's. Now that Asterix and Ulysse 31 are on their way to becoming movies, anyone want to take bets on when we'll see a Goldorak/Grendizer film? Now that would be cool.
Yeah, right...

I've seen this one in a few palce now - Empire magazine in the UK has commented on it. Personally I think this would be a great movie, and although the cast is somewhat - strange, somehow I think it rings true. As for $80 million + Barry Gibb - What about Starship Troopers?
But bear in mind...

... that Jeunet is 100% mad, so a cast like that might not be out of the question. Personally, I don't believe it - but if it was made, I can see it being very cool indeed. But if it's a Jeunet film, we also need Ron Perlman and Dominique Pinon in the cast...
Cartoons into movies

You are gonna laugh but there IS a Dragonball Z movie. It's a very low budget Hong kong movie with ridiculous special effects but still very funny. They had also made a street fighter movie which sucks but was still much better than the "Hollywood" version. What I am afraid of is not only the Asterix movie but imagine if they decided to make a Smurfs movie (Schtroumpf in french) ??? AAARRRRGGGHHH !
Probably just as cryptic as City of Lost Children.
