I used to collect Blade of the
Immortal. But the pamphlet
format meant that I missed
issues. So I quit. But BOTI
also had other problems. The
fact that individual issues
were NOT clearly numbered.
And the COLLECTIONS were not
numbered.
I quit reading it, and all
comics published in the US,
after I came back from Japan.
I was spoiled by the format.
The US style comic book is
simply not acceptable. A
volume of a japanese manga
paperback can cost less than a
28 page american single-issue
pamphlet, and it is FAR more
convenient.
Oh, and they're tougher than
the US trade paperbacks, too.
The pricing difference (in the
paperbacks) is unavoidable
given the smaller (but
growing) market here, but
everything else about the way
comics are sold in the US is
at best inexplicably stupid.
