Does anybody watch this show and would you recommend it?

There's nothing but shit on the broadcast networks when it comes to scripted fare. Nothing but cop and medical show procedurals. (I could never get into The Shield, though I can acknowledge/recognize that it's a quality cop drama.) If you watch it, what do you recommend about Nip/Tuck? Should I get the first season DVD set?
That's really the reason I like it...

it defies all logical explanations, let alone comparisons to other TV shows. As cliche as it sounds, there's nothing like it on TV. A truly unique show. Like The Shield, and maybe more so, this show pushes boundaries on TV like no other, be they sexuality, language, or violence. Some of the things on this show are just sooooo "wrong." Which makes it sooo good. Season One is definitely worth owning. And tonight's season premiere shows that this show is not going to dull anytime soon.

I loved the first season. It's kind of the opposite of most medical shows. Most medical shows are about saving lives, this is about a much more shallow branch of the medical community. They push that womanizing George Clooney character with Dr. Troy to a wonderfully nasty level. To the guy wondering if the first season is worth seeing you should check out the review in the dvd section at the Chud website. It will probably give you an idea if you would like it or not.

The gross out factor for the sake of gross out is annoying, and actually detracts from an otherwise well written show.

But it's also thoroughly entertaining television. At least it doesn't pretend to be more than it is, unlike that pretentious and over-rated "Six Feet Under." My only beef is they show plenty of male nudity, but almost no female nudity. What's up with that?

My advice would be to beg, borrow or steal the first episode. If that one doesn't hook you, it probably ain't for you. The season goes far beyond what happens in that ep, but it does set a pretty good mood for what's in store.

...and it's all because of Julian McMahon.... At least to me.. Christian Troy is my favorite t.v. personality after Tony Soprano.. Last season, I couldn't get enough of Christian; who doesn't love a guy that fucks women left, right, up and down, a guy who tries to steal his best friend's wife... I dunno, this guy would be so fucking dispicable, if he weren't so charismatic and charming.... The funniest bit was his face when his "son" was born.. And with the first episode this season, he remains the same man who I've grown to love... I felt for him when he was pushed aside by that 25 year old piece of ass... But his interview process is hysterical.. This is the first soap opera I've ever appreciated, and with some fucking wicked surgery gore to boot.. That face reconstruction in episode 1 was as good as anything I've seen on Trauma: Life in the ER.... And with Jean Grey coming aboard, there is so much more to look forward to..

Add this one to Six Feet Under/Deadwood/Queer as Folk for groundbreaking, amazing TV! Seriously I am glad this season just started along with Six FeetUnder...Summer indoors is looking way brighter! Better then most of the crap that is at the theatres...Loved this first episode, especially with the Nanny HO making a Little Cocktail for the baby, that was so wrong but funny! I have not seen the first season of Nip/Tuck, is it worth buying? But I will tune in every week for this brilliant show!!! Don't miss this first episode opener!

Personnaly, I love this show. Sure its not life changeing, but it's well writen, directed and acted with characters that are entertaining and sympathetic. SPOILER: favourite moment, either Sean's mistress's suicide or the drug baron having his face surgically altered to no longer be number six on the ten most wanted list, only to gain the face of number two! It blows me away that Herc spends time watching shows like Gilmore Girls and Angel but doesn't have the time to post reviews of shows like The Shield and Nip/Tuck. Wonderfalls is another great example...I watched every episode that aired. It was a fairly decent show with an original concept, but it doesn't even come close to touching the Shield or Nip/Tuck in terms of direction or the maturity of the character and plot development. And we get more posts about this show (which is cancelled) then we do about these shows that are still on the air!

Someone needs to fill Herc in on what the good shows are; although I disagree with one poster that included Angel as one of the shows that he's wasting time with. I'd hazard a guess that that poster has never given Angel a chance or possibly never watched it at all; otherwise he'd know what a solid show it was.

Oh, this season definitely looks like it'll be fun, if only for two reasons. . . Aisha Tyler and Famke Jansen! I had forgotten that they'd be on the show til I saw the previews, and I was like, 'WOOHOO!' But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Christian balances being an aging playboy and a responsible father, since it would seem he's trying to make a genuine effort, aside from screwing the nanny, of course. On that note, I LOVED that scene, the dialogue was hilarious. He's all serious about her not calling him daddy, so she asks if she can call him Dr. Troy, and he's like, 'oh definitely!' and it's back to boning! To the person who says it's gore for the sake of gore, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! The show's called Nip/Tuck for a reason! If the makers of the show are given the leeway to show such material, they should, because it's always integral to the storylines. It's important for us to see what the characters go through physically to understand them on a psychological level. It's funny though, my sister watches surgery shows of real people getting cut up, but she's grossed out by watching Nip/Tuck. I will say this, I should have seen the twist with the chick her shot herself in the face coming. The mechanics of "accidentally" shooting yourself in the face would have to be pretty precise.
Nip/Tuck: Chuck Palahniuk Novel

I LOVE this show. And I do not work for Rupert Murdoch or any television network at all. The characters are all mostly reprehensible with a tinge of morality just below the surface. It's just like reading a Chuck Palahniuk novel w/o all the stream of consciousness. FANTASTIC! I love how just when you think you have a character pegged, they do something totally surprising (Like Matt's little weed-induced joy ride last season). If you aren't watching this show, you SHOULD be. There is SO MUCH crap on TV. Don't watch stupid Sex and The City reruns. WATCH THIS SHOW.
Christian's Kid

He's black because Christian's the mother is just as slutty as he is. She spent half of last season guilt-tripping Christian into buying designer prams for the baby that she claimed was his and then eventually Christian got all mooshy and decided that he would love this child and try to be the best dad he could be. Fast forward to the delivery room, and the baby comes out and is clearly not Christians. I get that Christian is still keeping his promise to take care of the baby and I love that even though he's still a slut, he LOVES this child. What I DON'T get is why he puts up with the mother's shit still. HELLO! He doesn't HAVE to be there.

It's a fun show with great characters. I agree with everyone else that Christian is a great character. I may be alone here, but I also find Sean interesting too. I do have to point out that it has annoyed me at times. I hated the pilot, and first few episodes, but for me it got better after that. Just a warning though, it can get a bit too soap opera-ish at times. I would personally recomend renting or borrowing the first few episodes in order to find out if it is your type of show.

The first season of "Nip/Tuck" had some hits and some misses for me, but the season finale really made me fan and last night's season premiere was fantastic as well. Hopefully by season 3 the show won't fall apart like The Shield did this year.

They both thought it was his kid while she was pregnant. During that time he realized that he wanted to be a father. It wasn't until the delivery that he realized that the kid was black. It turns out that the woman (what's her name) had gotten so drunk that she didn't even remember having sex with a black guy. Christian decided that he would be a father to the kid anyway. PS I love the way that she never calls him by name, only refers to him as 'asshole'.

Nip/Tuck is friggin excellent and the only TV drama I watch on a regular basis. I think it has enough dark, irreverent twists to keep it from becoming a "soap opera", although a lot of rather over-the-top things happen in the series. But, hey, it makes for great TV. I think Dr. Christian Troy is the most complex character on television. Just when you think he's nothing more than a cold-hearted, womanizing asshole, he turns around and does something selfless or utterly human. It's very rare that a show can continually surprise you but that's what Nip/Tuck does, every single episode. I highly reccomend the first season DVD box set. You won't be disappointed - as long as you can stomach the surgery scenes and uncompromisingly amoral characters.

...is the fact that their seasons are only 13 episodes! What a ripoff! :0 That and the show theme song (like Enterprise's) sucks. If only F/X would've stuck its neck out and negotiated for Angel to move over to it. Angel, Nip/Tuck, and The Shield, all on one *network*. Speaking of Angel, the Angel slayer at the WB, Jordan Levin, was "re-assigned." Ha ha. Imbletard.

Before I launch into what might sound like overeager fanboy praise for Nip/Tuck, let me present my credentials as a TV viewer. I consider myself discerning, but not above the allure of obvious trash or popcorn entertainment. Favorite shows of all time include Quantum Leap, Hill Street Blues, The Simpsons, Angel, South Park, The Shield, Six Feet Under and The Sopranos. I would put Nip/Tuck closer to the latter three shows on the continuum of entertainment that appeals to me, but it really isn't enough like any of them to fit neatly in a category with them. Medical dramas have always bored the hell out of me. I never cared much for the drawn out sub-story arcs of ER, probably because the characters didn't interest me all that much. That's one of the many areas where Nip/Tuck differs. As has been said, Christian Troy is absolutely despicable as a womanizing pretty boy who refuses to grow up and is afforded all the rewards of great success largely on the basis of his association with his more talented partner. But there's much more to him than that. He is a deeply troubled and often (sym) pathetic character who continues to touch stoves that have proven themselves hot and secretly hates himself for it. Sean, who tries so hard to be the morally upstanding and responsible half of the duo, secretly envies his seemingly amoral partner and is forced to question his concepts of success, happiness, right and wrong on a regular basis. The third point of the triangle, Sean's wife, is perhaps the most intriguing and complex character on the show. Her motives seem to drift back and forth between those of the self-sacrificing, dutiful mother and wife and the still-somewhat-unfulfilled woman in her sexual prime asking what might have been. I thought the dynamic between these three characters might get old during season one, but it never did. There was simply too much else going on and too many talented supporting characters in the mix to let anything get stale. It's a funny, gripping, tense and cathartic show in which terrible things happen to beautiful people. And isn't that what we all want to see anyway? Check out season one... but do it in time to catch the reruns of season two, which should start in the fall.

I have to agree with the previous poster, I wasn't terribly impressed by this show.. I watched the 'lesbian cheeleader' arc last season, the resolution was somewat 'original' (or at least not terribly chiched like the rest of the lesbian stuff on tv), but the rest of the show didn't impress me.. It was too much 'pushing the limits for sex on tv' crap.. I have enough pr0n alredy, I don't need this from a tv show.
