I'm a fan of Samurai Jack, and I think that's exactly why I hated Clone Wars. All Clone Wars did was take Star Wars and apply the Samurai Jack formula to it. There was no heart behind anything in the series; it was all just by-the-numbers action stuff that I've seen done better a million times in Samurai Jack. Clone Wars, to me, is just more Lucasfilm fan service in the vein of Dooku vs. Yoda. Lots of big flashy action stuff, but no actual heart or storytelling.

The clone wars shorts were meant to be heavy on the action. 3 minutes per day isn't enough time to tell a deep and involving story. I think they accomplished what they meant to do, and accomplished it well. Better than Lucas has with eps 1 and 2. My only wish was that they'd had longer episodes to work with, and thankfully now they will. I'm looking forward to it.

That's a weak explanation. In dire situations, the Jedi in the movies rarely USE their powers, let alone abuse it. Surrounded by droids? Well, you could try jumping, running, or even pushing, but it'll be better to just stand around and get slaughtered, or risk being thought of as Sith. Even still, the Sith in the movies didn't use their powers all that much as they should have, seeing as how they're evil power-abusers. Tartakovsky says that he's an action buff and makes it no secret. In my opinion, it's obvious that he had a problem with the standard SW Jedi/Sith action (or lack thereof), so he did it the way he thought it should be the way the canon has said it. That's what the Clone Wars great, and it's even more so considering that these 3 minutes episodes are a lot more enjoyable than the films. Quint's sentiment is the same as mine. I look forward to these new eps.

The 2 part Mace Windu episode definitely ruled. I hope he's that badass in Episode 3, cause thought he fought in 2, he really didn't do anything super cool, other than the drop into the arena. I hope they do hold out on the DVD release till these new ones are done so it can be in one bigass package

There's an interesting theory about Windu and his use of the force. It goes something like... he's one of the jedi who are veering dangerously close to the dark side because of the awesome power they tap into, it's what gives him his incredible fighting prowess, and maybe why he uses a purple lightsaber. I always hoped they would explain the reasoning behind the colours, something like: Green = Trainee knights, Blue = Jedi masters and Purple = martial artists and danger level force users, but that doesn't fit anymore. We'll always associate red with the dark side though. Maybe it's the darker the colour the more powerful you are.

Yoda and Qui-Gon had green. Obi Wan had blue as a padawan, and Luke and Anakin were blue training under Obi Wan. So green would seem to be tops in the Jedi world, although I don't necessarily think it is a rank thing. Perhaps the purple one means that you operate alone? So you are neither master, nor padawan? It may just be as simple as where you get your crystals. Every Sith apprentice has had red. We'll see what this Sith master has in Episode 3.

I don't know if it's part of the movie continuity, but the xbox game Knights of the Old Republic explained the difference between the lightsabre colors. It's been a while since I've played it, but I believe blue was the color of the warrior, and green was the color of the more diplomatic jedi. There was also a yellow lightsabre (KotOR took place several hundred years before the prequels.), but I don't remember its meaning. Nothing about the purple sabre though.... and add me to the list of people who think this is going to rock. Would love to see an animated series set in the SW universe, but not necessarily about existing characters.

We hear the same stuff over and over again, but I can only imagine what these talkbacks would look like were Return of the Jedi to come out now. The Phantom Menace had one annoying character and some weak acting in parts, but an entire third of ROTJ centered around the Ewoks and their village/planet. Can you hear all the complaints about how Lucas has turned his series into a teddy bear commercial? Look at how savagely Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman have been attacked for their performances--can you picture the utter disappoinment at Harrison Ford putting on a lot of weight (despite being frozen in carbonite) and sleepwalking through a film he doesn't want to be in? Or Carrie Fisher's glaze-eyed, prescription medicine-laced acting? Not to mention their "argument scene", possibly the worst written material of the entire saga? If the imaginitive locales of the last two films haven't impressed bitter, jaded viewers, think of how they would respond to ROTJ's recycled ideas (another Death Star, Dagobah) and uninteresting new ones (A forest planet--WOW! A skiff battle about 1/10 as cool as anything in Captain Blood. A blue elephant playing keyboards!). But that's the thing with haters. They retroactively put things from their childhood on a pedestal, and trash anything that is similar that they encounted in their "adulthood". You show someone who's never seen Star Wars all 5 films in either order (1-2-4-5-6 or 4-5-6-1-2) and I would guarantee ROTJ gets picked as the weakest. The cool Vader/Luke/Palpatine stuff is great, but not enough to save a Muppet-loaded rehash. Get real.

...people still argue about that? Come on. Did anyone WATCH the movies? I see the same citations regarding Obi-Wan & Anakin using blue sabers as Padawans/Knights, while Masters like Qui-Gon and Yoda use green... and rationale for Mace's purple saber. Volstaff had it right. Jackson wanted to stand out, Lucas accomodated him. And to satisfy fans, he or McCallum or some Lucasfilm person stated that, for the record, purple crystals or whatnot are very rare and it takes a special person to get 'em, so Mace would be the only one who successfully got one. Citing the video games is ridiculous. KOTOR used the saber colors as a way of giving a visible distinction between the three Jedi classes... which becomes moot shortly after when you visit the crystal cave & find a bunch of other colors. Big whoop, it's a cool visual, that's it. I think the "canon" explanation is the Sith use synthetic crystals, hence red, to set them apart. Jedi have blue or green, REGARDLESS of rank. Take a peek at the Geonosis battle. Plenty of Masters, from the council even, are seen wielding blue; plenty of later-identified Padawans or Knights are wielding green. Purple's a rarity & difficult to obtain. That said, it'd be awfully cool, from the geek-factor standpoint, if Sidious whips out a yellow saber in Episode III. Wouldn't that be nice? The most powerful Sith having a saber as unique as (one of) the most powerful Jedi? Then that old Kenner card photo of Alec Guinness with the yellow lightsaber would be validated in a way (as well as the first few Luke figures, also wielding yellow sabers). And pretty much every Jedi-type game has had yellow sabers, regardless of Lucas' "rules", from Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, to Playstation's Jedi Power Battles, to KOTOR and Jedi Academy. As for the cartoons, can't wait! Loved the first two seasons. Wished they were longer. My only real crit is the fact that Mace is a total badass with his powers, but the Anakin/Ventress battle establishes a delay between a Force push and the result, so there's time for the opponent to react... which seemed, by the end, to simply set up how Grievous could dodge Ki-Adi-Mundi's push. Granted, Windu was up against pretty dumb droids, which rely mostly on numbers & blanket laser fire to defeat the Republic forces. The animation was top-notch. Yes, heavily influenced by Samurai Jack, but that's why they were hired in the first place. It's still its own beast. Look at those backgrounds. Then look at your "Art of Star Wars" books from the original trilogy. Very evocative of McQuarrie's production art. There will probably be more characterization & "story" in the 3rd season, with the longer format. That should really tell whether these guys could handle thirteen or so 22-minute episodes a year. And I think they could.

How about a Star Wars reason for one single unique sabre in the midst of a sea of blue and green sabres? Mace Windu is the head of the motherfucking Jedi Council and so carries a lightsabre(symbol of all Jedi everywhere) that marks his particular position within the Jedi ranks.

Regardless, that's ANOTHER weak explanation. So, if we were in, say, the 40s, back when people didn't actually THINK about the science fiction that was presented to them, the films would be great? ...That's one big reason why Star Wars became as big as it did. The Prequels just don't have as much relevance, except for the fall of the Republic/rise of the Empire alluding to the expanding militarism of the United States today.
