. . . then i'll get into my portable time machine and go back to my 1993 self and try to explain how bill murray has become a leading dramatic actor - then i will undoubtedly slap myself and tell myself to stop speaking such foolish things.

How many times are the words "perfect" and "brilliant" used in these reviews? I'd like to get excited, but if RUSHMORE and TENNENBAUMS were also considered "perfect" and "brilliant" then I think I'll wait for LIFE AQUATIC to be released on a "perfect" and "brilliant" DVD .
Yeah, but does Murray get to utter his trademark "Daaahhhhhhhh!!

That Radiohead song is one of my favorites and I've always wanted to put it to film. I guess Anderson beat me but I'll just use one of Radiohead's many other great songs in the future.

Two Halloweens ago I was lucky enough to be in Santa Cruz.( You yanks do halloween right). Saw loads of rushmores and various Tennenbaums. Returned home and thought I'd try to go to a christmas fancy dress as Richie. Not doing that again. Completly tits up. Nobody had a clue who I was.

Am I the only one who noticed that one reviewer described Anjelica Huston's part as the Sister and another reviewer described her as the wife, something smells south of cheese, and my bet is that it is the second reviewer paraphrasing a friends re-action to the film, he didn't actually see it because he doesn't go into much detail on the film. Just a thought, anyone else?

And, please Hollywood, stop hiring Julianne Moore and give Cate Blanchett more work. From ELIZABETH (regal monarch) to PUSHING TIN (bored Joisey housewife) to SHIPPING NEWS (slut) to LOTR (elf queen), she's proven she can play anything.

Every one of Wes Anderson's movies has been great so far IMO. This is one of the few movies this year I'm really looking foreward to and I hope turns out alright. These reviews certainly are re-assuring. Can't wait!

For providing some coverage on this film. Easily the movie that I most anticipate this year (besides Napoleon Dynamite, a'course). Dec. 25 is far, far away. Thank the lord for that there is a young filmaker like Wes Anderson out there to offset the McG's of the cinema world.

From "Brewster McCloud" to "Electric Dreams", "The Chocolate War", and many, many other films, he's continually proven that he is the greatest living American actor

everything about that film was disappointing, from the script to the acting and even the music (I really expected much better from Kevin Shields, who's a member of the brilliant bands Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine).

The Anderson Syndrome
by NiceMarmot

Defined as the condition that arises when one's first movie (e.g. "Bottle Rocket" or "Hard Eight") turns out great, and each successive film moves closer and closer toward mediocrity. Wes hit that watermark with "Tenenbaums" and P.T. is getting there. What causes this? A swelled head, overstuffed from drooling critical praise? A freaky turn of the cards, or does it indeed have something to do with having the last name Anderson? Some, like Paul W.S., have never made a good movie, while others such as Shyamalan (which I believe is Indian for 'Anderson') have rocketed past the mediocre point and are hurtling toward crapdom in a state known as 'Terminal Anderson'. Fortunately, we still have Payne, Nolan, and O'Russell (wherever he may be)among us to offset this occurance. At any rate, I still plan to check out "Life Aquatic" in the hopes that Wes has found the cure.
HOW MANY ANDERSONS DOES IT TAKE...

RUSHMORE was a brilliant comedy. BOTTLE ROCKET was a perfect family movie. THE ROYAL Ts was deeply flawed, and Gene Hackman was just plain bad, a rarity for that great actor. Bill Murray is a terrific character actor, and surely will survive the embarassment of LOST IN TRANSLATION. He didn't make the movie, after all. This LIFE AQUATIC thing sounds OK. Maybe a rental rather than a movie ticket, however.
THIS AIN'T THE DIRECTOR OF MAGNOLIA, FOR SURE

Oops!I got the wrong BOTTLE ROCKET. I have not seen Anderson's BOTTLE ROCKET. SO judging him on the two movies I have seen by him, he is batting 50-50. M. Night is batting 33%. But then, I have seen three movies by him, with only one being successful. And we know which one was successful, don't we boys and girls?
Criterion DVD of Bottle Rocket. When?!?
by riskebiz

I want Criterion to do a special edition of Bottle Rocket like they've done with the other Wes Anderson films. I really would like to see the short film "Bottle Rocket" that was previewed for James L. Brooks where they got the funding for the feature length theatrical version. For sure that would be on the Criterion DVD ... if Criterion ever got the right to release a special edition of it.

If you're one of the Wes Anderson dissenters, and by dissenter I mean you think that his record is anything less than excellent, then you must not like any American cinema period. In fact, that being the case, there would be no reason for you to visit this board ever at all because you can't like movies, and any American film you claim to like made in the last 5 years would have extreme trouble standing next to Rushmore or Royal Tenenbaums, no matter which film it were. Wes Anderson is simply one of the very, utmost elite of American filmmakkers. His films are beautiful, honest, and genius. Royal Tenenbaums is the great American novel (in film form). Rushmore is utter brilliance. Bottle Rocket is excellent. If you're an idiot you'll disagree. If the films bore you, you're either still a child, or a kunckledragger. Pull your oversized skull out of your ass. Wes Anderson's worst film > your life.

I think not, he only got better. Magnolia ruled, Punch-Drunk was an entirely different type of movie (from anything). They didn't give him best director at Cannes cuz he's hurtling toward crapdom.
