Haute Tension vs. INTENSITY

Props to our friend from Miskatonic for mentioning 'INTENSITY" as a source. But that miniseries was actually pretty disturbing and well directed. Considering it was done for commercial television, it's downright horrifying. They stayed close to the book, which meant it was sickening, and the point-of-view was scarily non-judgemental. It was a good, disturbing piece of work.
This doesn't sound good enough,.

i saw a screening a few months ago in LA, and the first 60-70 minutes are pretty terrific. it does that great thing the best horror movies do--it makes you feel like you're inside a nightmare. Very (uh) tense and quite scary (with, at least in the theater I saw it in, a very powerful sound mix). And then comes the twist. My reactions to the twist were these: first, i was angry; then (still angry), my mind ran back over the rest of the film, to see if "the twist" works (it doesn't). But my fundamental point is: I wasn't scared anymore. I was completely taken out of the moment of the movie; all of the tension the filmmakers had built was gone, like a balloon punctured by a needle. Still, I've would (and have) recommended HAUTE TENSION to horror fans and gorehounds. But I think that what could've been nasty little classic ends up like a self-defeating little footnote. kagk.
The trick ending is ...

Just to save you the price of full admission, the short hair girl has split personality, and is the k... on the other hand, you can always watch this on matinee, right?

Cheap, lame scares, a really dumb twist they give away in the first three minutes... The only amusing part for me was the car-and-driver-sawing near the end.

If you're looking for something new to horror, then check out THE LAST HORROR MOVIE. It doesn't have the suspense and gore of HAUTE TENSION, but it does fuck with your mind in a confrontational and deeply disturbing way. It also has a twist at the end that is pure genius. I'm not saying it's better than HAUTE, but it's very smart and very different; a horror movie that really does make you think.

I've seen it, cos it's out on video in Russia. I love horror films, especially non-american kind, but this could have been much better. There are few really bloody horror moments and the tension is there, but you can't have tention every single second, cos it hets boring. some of you might love the fiilm, but to be honest it is very flawed. By the way, the silly twist in the end is too predictable and doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
