I actually watched a couple of the Powerpuff Girls dvd's and got some laughs from the "in character" commentaries by the villains. They should do that with the next Bond film. (Hank Scorpio: "Okay, right here, I shouldn't have stopped to tell Bond my plan.")
An all-time great show

Too bad AICN wasn't giving this show the Wonderfalls treatment, cuz it was infinitely better. Although most of the TBers (and Harry, who never watched it) should be warned - this show contained: nothing supernatural, no aliens, nothing to do with Star Trek, no Buffyverse, no scantily clad jailbait. So I predict that the interest around here will be minimal.

This was the best show...damn those network executives that killed it. I hope they get hit by a big Mac truck and taste their own @#$%@ blood. My favorite character was the geek that always came up talking about the D&D books...

And if they are older that 15, then our future is doomed. BTW, Freaks and Geeks was a great show.

I've often asked for "fan" commentaries and here we get a few. Double commentaries and loads of deleted scenes. Too bad the show itself is insufferable. I had looked forward most to the "executives" commentary which includes some chick from NBC and two dudes from DreamWorks. However, their commentary is fairly fawning and except for their analysis of incoming programming bonehead Garth Ancier and timeslot roulette, they blow a chance to explain why the show truly failed: it was a scripted nostalgia reality show. Yes the acting (and therefore casting) was wonderful, and the writing very real for someone whose goal was to document midwestern high school life in 1980. But like the commentaries allude to on occasion, the goal was to re-create certain '70s dramas like "Family" and how could this succeed? As I've mentioned elsewhere, there should be a place for this type of work for the audience that liked it, but the insipid praise reads like pop-psychology feelgoodness of those seeking validation through production. This show is "real", and for that reason, boring. Apatow's "sequel" "Undeclared" retains much of the feel while being entertaining (though not entertaining enough). A show launched after "That '70s Show" (and even rehashes some of the first season shenanigans of that superior entertainment) it really shows people in the industry that don't understand the industry at all. Why would the public seek out a show with no larger-than-life characters, one that sets up a group of "freaks" then precedes to trash them on every level (especial the "pot" episode, which played like a souped-up After School Special in its bashing of the experience), and why would anyone ever make a one hour dramedy. The end: I bought the DVD box set and was reminded why I only watched one episode when it was on: I don't want scripted reality that celebrates the tedium of unformed people any more than I want to watch reality game shows. But I will buy the "Special Edition" (a limited edition available at http://freaksandgeeks.com) as an example of superior packaging and dvd production. But not for the show, a reminder of a time that I already lived, except not so boring.
F&G ONE OF THE BEST...IF NOT THE BEST SHOW EVER

Okay, so it only had 18 episodes but what the creators of that show did was astonishing. In a commercial driven medium where crap is abundant they somehow managed to create art each week. And the show was poignant and funny as hell to boot. Terrific writing, stellar cast, and the most realistic depiction of suburban high school TV ever produced (God I hate Boston Public).
Damn! I already bought it, and it ROCKS!
