Seriously, they may be sorta weak, but the music isn't nearly as bad as you make it sound. Plus, there is a mild interesting oddness about seeing the lead singer play as himself on a show when he played a guy in a fictional band in The Princess Diaries

I had a six episode marathon over the holidays (clearly, I have a very cluttered mind to match my bursting-point Tivo), and I've been aching for a new episode all week. Just what I needed, another can't miss series on Wednesday night.

Sorry, but Barton and McKenzie look like brother and sister, and I just can't watch them make out every week. What I can watch, however, is Nina's return to 24. That was some cool shit. Ridiculous plot twist or no, it's always good to see Sarah Clarke again, and next week's preview looks even better. Nothing like a forced makeout session with a whacked-out double agent spy chick. Unless of course she's your twin sister...

And while not an abomination against man, not especially good. It's a decent ep, Luke's singing is some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. If you're knocking it, you just haven't seen a full episode yet, it's like television crack. I gotta get a TiVo so I don't keep missing 24.

It irks me so much when people decide to post on a talkback simply to express rage over a television show. The OC is a fun show and many people enjoy it. It's quite popular and on a MAJOR NETWORK (I guess Fox applies). I for one am actually able to view this show with my basic cable. I'm sorry to say that I've never seen Curb Your Enthusiasm, although I'm sure I'd like it. The OC is just some fun fluff to watch, and it keeps its regular viewers interested. 24, albeit a great concept, is really hard to pick up mid-stream. So, I don't feel any sympathy for the poor saps who require a talkback for their favorite shows. If you're so terribly distraught because your favorite show isn't covered by Herc on aintitcool.com, then you have some issues to work through. Watch your show, enjoy it, and keep your negativity to yourself. Or don't. It's your life. I will watch the OC and enjoy it. -d

For example, on tonights ep Hailey will share some end of show bonding time with Sandy. When it comes down to it, the question that we're dealing with when it comes to Hailey is what she wants out of life. This theme is prevelant throughout literature and philosophy dating back 2500 years. It turns out to be a central issue in The O.C. as well, as demonstrated in tonights overplay of The Golden Girls humor. When Sandy basically asks Hailey what it is she wants out of life, she says, "See that's the thing. All I know is what I don't want." Sandy replies, "Well, that's not entirely true." And he slides half his bagel, which Hailey has been after all ep, over to her. This half of bagel, silly as it may sound, represents the lifestyle that the Cohens enjoy. Read deeper, my fellow geek friends!

If you had been paying any attention at all you would know that herc's 24 source dried up. But instead of actually figuring this out you take your time to bitch and complain about how no one is catering to your need. Jeez, think about what you're complaining about for a minute. As to the OC, any of you who widh to compare this to 90210 need to open your eyes for once. Just because the show is popular with a certain demographic doesn't mean that it doesn't have other things that appeal to the rest of us. Heres how everyone needs to watch the OC: tivo it and fast forward through 90% of the Marissa/Ryan scenes. Enjoy the giddy goodness that is Seth Cohen and his parents. 90210 was similiar to the OC if you take the OC and remove its brain. Take the Ryan/Marissa relationship and stretch it over an hour and you have something akin to a 90210 clone. Grow up, use your brains for a minute, and don't complain about a show that is bad for you because you can't figure get over the genre. Its like saying Dawn of the Dead is bad because its in the same genre of House of the Dead.
Better than Most

I think this show is somehow threatening to a portion of the uh, "demographic" of these wonderful talkbacks. I'm sure there's some deep-seeded psychological reason for that, but many people just aren't getting the OC. Hey. It's commercial TV. Nothing's going to be that artisitic.****There's lots to like here. Good (mostly) acting. The Peter Gallagher character alone makes it worth watching, and although I wish Seth would be more odd and less popular, that's a damn good character, too. They do a good job of mixing different appeals to different people, which is what a TV show has to do to survive. I am OLD and I enjoy it. The adults are intelligently rendered but the young demographic is represented, too. Barton's probably the weakest link--I can't get my wife to watch it because of her--but there's more than enough here to enjoy.****In a perfect world this would take place in a less ideal socio-ecomic environment and reflect reality a little bit more, and the people would have more severe problems and not all look model pretty, but it's commercial TV, for heaven's sake. You know what you're getting into when you click on the remote. Amazing something so watchable actually gets ratings and won't be cancelled. Enjoy it while you can. Hope the show doesn't get stale. It undoubtedly will, but let's hope it takes a few years.****And even if it is Rooney, at least it's not Jessica Simpson or Rueben or some such nonesense.

What the hell is wrong with you, Herc? Marriage has made you weak I think. The O.C. IS 90210. The error seems to be in thinking that there was nothing good about 90210. Now - I don't like 90210 - It's not my kinda show. At all. But, just like the OC it took rich pretty kids and gave them realistic portrayals in a nigt time soap context. What made you think 90210 was completely bereft of cleverness and good writing in the first place? It has pretty much the exact same level and type of writing as the O.C. I have now watched the O.C. a few times and I don't like it at all. I don't blame the people that do - but if you want a good geek guy like me to watch a new 90210 you best have Tom Welland doing superspeed to keep me interested. Which is why I am now completely confused by the people that run this site. These guys are supposed to be like - the internet geek fanboy leaders. They should be archtypes of fanboy prejudices. But they just keep failing me on this. Harry praised Phantom Menace. Herc loves Gilmour Girls and the O.C. Christ on the Cross - you guys need to sell this site to some REAL geeks and fuck off. (not to say you aren't geeks in the sense of being socially maladjusted ugly people. You clearly are. You just arent good FILM/TV genre geeks anymore.)

This guy is a tremendous actor and is the heart and soul of this show along with Seth. I hope Ryan continues to come out of his shell because his one-note brooding faces are getting a little tired and Mischa Barton is the worst actress on TV. Other than their relationship the show is great and fans will love this episode and will likely laugh out loud at least once.
Barton worst actress on TV?

Hey Anomaly, I'd be careful there. Barton did a great job creating her small but well developed role as Katie in ABC's "Once and Again". Although it could be that such a critically acllaimed, for-women-only brand show went unwatched by many of us geeks. That's ashame. Also, Barton's starring role in the 2001 film "Lost and Delirious" proved that her acting has a poise and range beyond what would be apparent from watching just The O.C. Did it ever occur to you that she may be acting like that on purpose?

Ya know, Felicity had terrible ads in it's early years at the WB but it was great. I'm sure I'd dig the OC except Angel and West Wing are on at the same time. Shit, couldn't good tv be spread across the week rather than bunched together? There's nothing I want to watch on Thursday (execept Scrubs but it's always getting bumped whenever I tune in).

Fair enough. I haven't seen her in anything else except for an episode of Fastlane where she was way better. It's just that her acting in the OC amounts to a not so impressive range of cute smiles and misplaced giddyness. Maybe you're right and she is trying to act like the worst actress on TV.

The point about Barton's performance on "Once and Again" is a good one. I also thought she did OK in that (I am a male who watched that show religiously--it was sort of like the OC in that it looked like one thing, but was really muti-faceted. Bad ABC marketing to love-lorn 40 year old women didn't help, either). It may be true that the character on the OC is being written and directed to be as it is, but something about the performance still strikes me as sub-par.

You may be right in that Barton could be on vacation with The O.C. But show creator Josh Schwartz has actually said that the Marissa character is based on him! If you've ever seen him you may agree that Mischa does a good job acting like the guy. I think I know where O.C. got its glitter and why the series consistently gets better over time. Although I could be wrong. I also think the Seth character is based on Schwartz's high school self. This is all what makes this show and any TV with depth so interesting.

1. The adult characters(particularly Peter Gallagher) are very entertaining and not the one note cliches you usually see. He especially is very funny at times(quoting Seagal as an example tonight). 2. Seth Cohen is there for YOU. That guy is an extremely funny actor too. 3. Rachel Bilson and Samaire Armstrong. Find me two women hotter than them. Samaire's lisp is the cutest thing ever btw. 4. Angel is ALWAYS a rerun anyway, though I guess its back next week.

its funny that everyone complaining about the OC being like 90210n knows all the characters of 90210 what their roles are as well as storylines, so u obviously watched it. Dont worry i heard there is going to be an episode with an orc and maybe one where they reference the jedis!!! WOW guys maybe u can line up in line in front of the studios where the OC shoots and maybe someone will mention something about star wars and u can get the only satisfaction you can get since no woman will follow you down to your parents basement
