... what are YOU so pissed about? Are you jealous? Do you feel you've been overlooked in some way and this guy deserves less? Honestly, man! Stick to reporting the facts and keep your biases to yourself. Maybe Sandy didn't want to credit fansites for fear that it would harm his credibility at this point in his career, which (unless you're Peter Jackson or Quentin Tarantino) is a strong possibility. He did a great job bringing Alex Ross' visualization of Bob Kane's design of DC's Batman with Danny Elfman's score mixed with thePredator soundtrack and using Dark Horse/DC's (lame-ass)concept of pitting Batman against Fox's Predator and Aliens. What a genius he is. The way he sewed everybody else's work into one 8 minute masterpiece. A good director's reel could have captivated viewers with an old lady walking through the park. Taking day to day subject matter and showcasing how fascinating YOU can make IT. Not taking fanboy centerpieces and focusing on not fucking them up. Granted in the film industry, that in itself is an achievement. Fuck him and his oversized ego. He was selling his own dvd $100 a pop at San Diego to dealers, and gets on a soap box about how he didn't make a dime.

This short film was well made, it gave audiences a look at what the Batman films could be if the character didnt wear 50 pounds of latex rubber, and it also showed how far you can go with 35,000 dollars. On the negative side, it showed a director who needs yet more time to hone their craft, establishing a narrative, creating pace, tension etc. Sandy's next film doesn't need to be Shazam. He needs to start out with something smaller, yet more complete than the 8 minute fan boy wet dream that he created. As far as giving Mori or AICN some credit, who cares in the end. It kinda pisses me off, that me and other film geeks of my ilk have been reduced to some sort of Midicolorian-like status of a magical force that somehow made this director's opus successful, but whatever. I honestly think the best fan film made with a superhero was Dan Poole's Spiderman movie. It was longer, cheaper, yet more ambitious and epic than Sandy's Batman: Dead End. In the end, we are as much of a problem as we are a beneifit. I am sure if they get to make more than one, Harry and Mori will forget to thank us AICN-ers as well. Be Cool, ToJ out.

I liked Batman: Dead End. How fun was it to see someone actually try something like that? But Sandy Collora won't be directing Shazam! You don't go from a $35,000 short film to a (probable) $75 million dollar feature film. Producers don't put that kind of trust in an untested director, and neither would you if you were putting up the huge amount of money.

Mori, Harry and the rest of you, I just gotta ask: When was the last time you thanked us for your lives as they are today? I mean, you would like for this person to give you credit for opening peoples eyes to his work, but when are you going to give us all credit for putting you on the internet map? Would either of you be working with movie studios today if it hadn't been for fame garnered at this site? Word of mouth and finger by us is what got you here. Don't ever forget that. I saw one of this guys short films on a website and it was really boring. Then some goofy monster pops up out of nowhere and it ends. These movie effects guys who try to be directors can't see beyond their specialty. There's more to making films than fancy rubber suits and rain.

I was one of the fortunate few who got into the DE screening at the SD:ComicCon. The short was pretty cool and also a big surprise as I had no prior knowledge if it before the Con. Sandy was actually a very nice guy and took some time to discuss the short with the viewers and did a little meet-n-greet after the showing.

This very short film was hyped on this site and elsewhere, but there isn't much too it. There are a couple of nice images in it, but the acting is bad, the action is bad, the narrative is bad...it just blows overall. Who knows, this guy might be a good director someday, but he still hasn't shown it yet. I see no spark of talent at this point. There's no way any studio will give him a big budget superhero movie to direct...not even a possibility.

Thank god I'm not the only person who thinks THE PRINCESS BRIDE is a grossly overrated Monty Python wannabe! I fucking detest that movie, and every other film Goldman has worked on, save for ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, which was mapped out by history, and MAVERICK, which succeeded on the charm of its actors and the spirit of the original TV show. I'm sure a bunch of film school students will jump on me about saying it, but all Goldman is to me is a cantankerous hypocrite who receives way more credit than he deserves. I mean, THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS? What the hell was THAT? And, how could Goldman, if he's such a genius, sign onto such a horrible concept/production as DREAMCATCHER? Shouldn't he have been able to smell the "shit weasels" before he ever signed the contract?

Previous posters have mentioned this, but for this site to have the nerve to come on here and bitch about not getting credit for revealing something to the world is amazingly self-centered in my view. I like to think back to the days when no one gave a shit who Moriarty or Harry were. I love this site, but I have watched the ego here grow progressively out of control. To slam this guy for not thanking the people who got him there is real rich coming from the contributors to this site.

If it's not fully articulated, I can see how you might not realize it, but every single time I post right now, it's for one reason... because I know full well that the time I've spent writing for AICN has not only improved me as a writer (I can't even list how many bad habits you guys have broken me of thanks to your feedback), but it's also made a huge difference in how I'm perceived by other people who work in this business, for better and for worse. I am enormously grateful for AICN in general, and for the continued opportunity to mouth off like an idiot about the medium I love. In a recent interview, one of the things I tried to emphasize to the person asking the questions was that the only real power AICN ever has is the power that comes from you... the readership... and the idea that you can and will vote with your dollars. You guys are the ones the studios are really afraid of... not Harry... and not me. You guys are the ones they ultimately have to appease... not Harry... and not me. Like I said... maybe we don't articulate it every day specifically, but it's present in my mind every time I update the site, and even on the days where other obligations on my time keep me from updating... I'm very fortunate to be able to talk to you, the readers of AICN... and thank you for making that possible.

Seriously. We're talking about a guy whose biggest achievement is a very love-it-or-hate-it fanboy short. I'd feel a lot better if there was a more experienced director at the reins, someone who cares about the material AND is a proven hand at sci-fi and/or fantasy. Collera is much too green for something like this.
