If her character is a designer, maybe this is just one of many failed designs for the movies possible costume design scene where Halles character is at her drawing board trying to design the ONE outfit for her. Come on, this is clearly a fake (or at the very least a pre-production sketch and there are probably quite a few of those). Why do I think that? First off, it just looks bad, amaturishly bad, in fact. Secondly, remember that Halle Berry was the person who made sure that Storm's hair in X-Men 2 didn't look as bad as it did in the first film (and she stood up to Bryan Singer, who strikes me-from what I have heard-as a bit of a bully). Thirdly, and most importantly, Halle Berry was first offered Jennifer Lopez's role in Gigli, and she turned that down, and look how that ended up. The woman is obviously too clever to let anyone make a fool of her, so I am quite confident that this costume is nothing to worry about.

This whole movie is a write-off. The only similarity between this "Catwoman" and the DC Comics Catwoman that this movie was SUPPOSED to be about is the name Catwoman. This movie doesn't acknowledge Batman, Gotham City, her real name (Selina Kyle), the fact that she is supposed to be a thief, and not to mention that Catwoman isn't African-American. Let me make one thing clear....Johnny Storm is not Pyro. I know that's what they're trying to go for, but they're two totally different characters....Storm's molecular structure causes him to become living flame, whereas Pyro just manipulates fire. But why call it Catwoman? If you're trying to play of the popularity of Burton's Catwoman, then it would seem to follow that this movie would be about THAT character. From what I'm reading here, that's not the case. The only other reason to call this movie Catwoman is if you were going back to the source material about a prostitute named Selina Kyle who becomes a cat burgler - it's actually a pretty interesting idea. Catwoman is an anti-hero. You should spend this entire movie feeling kind of wrong for rooting for her. If you're doing neither of those things, then why are you calling this movie CATWOMAN? It's not like the CATWOMAN name has the same identity as Wonder Woman or Superman. Most people probably think of Julie Newmar - and it doesn't seem like you're going in that direction either. Please, WB, explain it to me. I thought you guys were dead-on with the casting, although I didn't understand why Halle would go back to $uperhero movie$ $o $oon. You know, this costume looks especially bad in the post "X-Men" and "Spider-Man" comic book movie era. In those films, we got fairly respectable extrapolations of the original character designs into a flesh&blood form that would work in the "real" world (well, a live-action film world anyway). Reminds me of what one friend said regarding the underwhelming "Daredevil" movie - 'The worst thing about it, is it didn't have to suck.' Oh well, I'll take Frank Miller's interpretation of Catwoman in BATMAN: YEAR ONE anyday. The definite version as far as I'm concerned - psychologically complex, strong motivations, and kick-ass to boot.

Seriously though, the Halle Berry travesty above is why I now definately DO NOT want to see a Wonder Woman movie in the forseeable future. Warner's would just screw it up. It's like they don't know what they're doing anymore, at least as far as superheros goes. Be that as it may I doubt this thing will be enough to kill superhero movies. One of the most over-rated, pathetic actors of the last decade. Terrible in Swordfish, Die Another Day, X-Men and Monster's Ball. I don't know what the Academy voters were thinking on that one. Let's hope this sinks her. And lets hope that Ben Afflek and Lopez aren't far behind.

If you want Herc to love it, just include some nice teen-angst bonding moments, and some cheesy sit-com humor. Instant Coax hit! If you want Mori to love it, just make sure there's a reference to him somewhere in it. If you want Harry to love it, just hide the money in his dessert- He'll get it. Seriously- This IS Catwoman in name only. It's another example of "The Godzilla Effect" which is when an American movie studio takes a popular property with a long, respected history and applies that property's name to another project entirely. Perhaps it's a script some hack wrote, but it wouldn't fly without name recognition. Maybe it's a script for a movie made 60 years ago, but it's been "punched up" and then given the "bonus" of changing the characters' names to something more "popular with the kids". Either way, this is not Catwoman. It's some other character whom they are CALLING "Catwoman" but that's the limit of the similarities. Warner Bros should be stripped of their DC licenses IMMEDIATELY before they do real damage to the Justice League or Watchmen.

Actually, Jeditemple, the current trend of rampant transformation of classic White superheroes to other races started not in Hollywood but with Marvel and to lesser degree DC. * The "Truth" mini-series revealed the first Captain America was Black (Sorry, Steve Rogers). In the Ultimates, Nick Fury went from White to a Black guy who strangely resembles Samuel L. Jackson. Ultimate version of Wasp is now Asian (Asian WASP? Cute joke.) In Hawkman, it was recounted how the title character and Hawkgirl were Egyptian royalty (Black people) in the first lives. All these racial changes are to address a sad fact: compared to other media, comics are EXTREMELY intolerant of cool, iconic Black characters. Film has John Shaft, Morpheus, Mace Windu, and Will Smith. TV has Captain Sisko, Hawk (From Spencer for Hire), and President Palmer (24) Novels have Easy Rawlins and Alex Cross But ask anyone even hardcore comic fans to name ONE Black superhero who ahs headline a popular or classic comic, and you'll likely get a blank stare. No, Spawn doesn't count because in a Spin magazine article Tood McFarlane admitted to "skinning" away the character's Blackness to appeal to a broad (White?) audience. (Yes, that statement is as deeply racist and clueless as it sounds.) In the process, Virgil becomes the most flattering portrayal of comic fans. Even the much lauded Unbreakable fell into the trap of comics turning impressionable kids into dangerous criminals (Elijah, anyone?). Sorry Mosquito March, but you're off on this one. Though an effective guilty plesure, Bond films have become VERY formulaic since Connery left. This would explais why Bond spoofs like Austin Powers are so popular. Hence, Berry and Pierce Brosnan are not expected to really stretch themselves dramatically in Die Another Day. (To be frank, Brosnan exerted himself more in Mrs. Doubtfire.) If this were Bourne Identity or a Jack Ryan flick, then the actors would have to push themselves. So, Mosquito March, you either accept the "terrible" acting and formulaic plot in DAD or you don't.

Please, Jeditemple, lengthy posts are not new to AICN MBs. But here is the micro version of my "PC" catering post for those on the go, suffering RSAS, or afflicted with frequent sleepiness. OK, MARVEL and DC not Hollywood are the cause of the recent, rampant racial switching of classic White superheroes. Thus, Ultimate Nick Fury and Ultimate Wasp are now Black and Asian, respectively. And the original incarnations of Hawkman and Captain America (see Truth mini-series) are now revealed to also be Black. Why? To shed comics' image as being as racist and backward as the Ku Klux Klan (Don't argue, it's true.) Naturally, as usual, Hollywood is following MARVEL and DC's lead by example with a Black Kingpin and a Black Catwoman. The end.

Okay question for the masses...whats wrong with an actor of whatever color playing a character whose race is not essential to the story? Is it essential that superman be white and not asian? Is it essential that storm be black and not indian? Okay shes an african princess so maybe thats different. I feel the only time race should come into play is if its essential to the character like a bio pic flick. I mean no one has any issues with all these aussie and british actors coming to america and playing americans. Mel Gibson plays a revolutionary hero and no one bats an eye! Hes not american! Thats basically what people did to Whats his name playing Kingpin, michael clark duncan. So what if he's black or white it didn't affect the character. THe movie still sucked. My problem with catwoman is that they took a great idea: Thief or eco terrorist and turned it into some silly revenge story. Even her origin story is silly. Whats wrong with making her a Thief???? IT could have been a thriller or an action adventure piece. THe problem with comic book movies is that they try to make a "comic book" movie INSTEAD OF JUST A GOOD MOVIE. Movies are all about the script and the director and then the actor. Halle could pull this off if the script was good and her director was decent. She needs to choose her projects with more care. ISn't she the one who bitched that storm had this great history that wasn't being explored by the movies? So why didn't she stick up for catwoman? Or why didnt she just gun for a storm solo movie? Storm is a thief and they could have explored that nicely. Face it the hollywood suits suck and they will destroy anything good they get their hands on the artless fops.
