In defense of Ray Liotta's comedic skills he was very good in 'Heartbreakers' with Sigourney Weaver. 'Manchurian Candidate' should not only not be updated but it shouldn't be remade at all. Why remake perfection?

The guy who gave us Melvin and Howard, Something Wild, Silence of the Lambs and Beloved has recently been involved in two remakes of classic films (Charade and Manchurian Candidate). "What the fuck happened to you, man? Shit, your ass used to be beautiful!" - - - Jackie Brown. PT Anderson is now officially greater than his greatest influence.

by alexnivek

Really stupid. The only way to make that movie better would be to travel back in time and give Janet Leigh a topless scene. Otherwise, what's the point? And on an unrelated topic, what's up with the random BOLD words in the recap? If you're going to make some words bold, why not just make the name of every actor/actress/director bold, so it's easy to skim through and see the names of people you're interested in?

What's that on those rocks off in the distance? Oh my, it's the wreckage of a movie. Good God! They actually let that one out? THE FOOLS! Couldn't they see it was too overdone and hollow? WHEN WILL THEY LEARN?! Oh well, give my regards to "Pearl Harbor".

Please, Lacey ... don't sign up to costar on some straight to video crapper starring Tim Meadows or Amy Poehler. You are far too talented for that. Plus you are far too hot ! If you can't find legitimate cinema, don't sell yourself short. I know things have been tough since Party of Five, but at the very least, give some serious consideration to the wonderful career potential offered in the world of Adult Films. Why be a bit player in some $10 mil grossing film when you could be reaping 60% of the royalties from "Party of Six - ty Nine". Please, Lacey. Do it. Do it now.

Let me get this straight... about a group of teens who just happen to be the future gods of Mt. Olympus. The story begins when they are teenage mortals in Greece who've learned of their futures and must come to grips with their destiny. What? First Smallville (which is still the original and the best), then Flash, now this?!? Just proof that there is not one original idea left in Hollywood. What's next? Washington's Creek? The story of our first president as a teen ager coming to grips with the fact he's become the first leader of America! Thank you for your time.

Actually, it would be kind of interesting to see that told from a Russian perspective. The Russians in WW2 had many female pilots. When Germans were shot down and taken prisoner, they were introduced to the female pilot that bested them.

TAKEN IN NEAR LETHAL DOSES...Diane Lane has signed on to star in Symetry Entertainment's ADULTERY for writer/director Robin Zwybeck. At this time it is unknown whether Lane's character, Joanne, will be cheating on somebody or be cheated on by somebody...Nick Stahl, Scarlett Johannsen and Jon Voight round out the cast of SWEATWILLOW CITY LIMITS, a new thriller by Vaughn Musseler for Loganberry Films. The story concerns a drifter with a mysterious past who arrives in a sinister little town run by a corrupt sheriff and a closeted gay mayor with a femme fatale "beard" wife who has a firey tempered farmhand for a lover...Chris Cooper, Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and Annette Benning (sans makeup) will star in John Sayles modern day western GRIZZLED GULCH, about a pack of outlaws who ride their horses into a dusty town and shoot up the place... Any number of pro-wrestlers, rappers and MAXIM cover girls will be starring in MI CAREERA ES OVERA, a tale of honor and destiny from John Milius... Our old favorite, John Hughes, is back to hands on filmmaking with MAI LAI MASSACRE. Hughes has switched screenplays with Oliver Stone, who will helm the Hughes scripted SHERMER FOLLEYS...See you nowhere near any of these dogs!

Hollywood doesn't like to make war movies from another country's point of view. American audiences don't empathize(/care about) as well with them.

nushustu..: I believe that Harry said a while ago that he would no longer be reviewing movies from Robert Rodriguez because he was far too partial to them. IMHO he should have had at least put up a review by someone else; how about Mori or Quint? ========================= ========================= ========================= Personally, I thought that it was a mixed bag. The action was mostly good, although the bloodshed was a bit too over the top for my taste. I liked the attempt to introduce a good plot, but it was not explained well enough. The movie was going in the right direction most of the time, but it had some problems in excecution.

My vote also for a new Remo Willians movie. The Destroyer novels and comic books are great fun and Hollywood has been ripping of Destroyer for years, so how about another movie? Yes we will even accept that lowly white, Joel Grey, as Chiun, our favorite Korean assasin.

Silent Hill was awesome, I beat the first and it definitely had me on edge. Havent played much of the other two so I cant comment on the stories, but the first was good so I assume the other 2 were as well. Hopefully the people who have been writing Silent Hill will also write the script. Brotherhood of the Wolf was awesome, so I look forward to Gans making an awesome Silent Hill.

The new "Manchurian Candidate" stars Oscar winners Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, and Jon Voight -- and that only makes it feel worse. Even these supposed "best of the best" actors evidently don't care about the idea of classic films being worthy of being honored. CLASSIC MOVIES ARE NOT LIKE PLAYS. The film image captures time itself, never to be the same again. This isn't "Hamlet" or "Death of Salesman." "The Manchurian Candidate" was very specifically of the 60's, and the Cold War, and the Russia-American conflict. Some sort of trendy Gulf War/Bush connection is just going to play like opportunism. "MC" was a true classic. Lighting doesn't strike twice. I do hope, however, that they re-orchestrate the brilliant/sad/chilling David Amram score if they have to make this thing. P.S. Demme's abortion of "Charade" doesn't make this look too good. Bottom line: Hollywood simply doesn't give a shit about its own glorious past.
