There's no need to watch one second of this trite slop. Unless you're a 10 to 15 year-old girl, or have the mind and "sensibilities" of one.
Barry Corbin also stars

Barry Corbin, from Northern Exposure & Wargames (The General who would piss on a sparkplug) also stars in this show. I'm watching it 'cause I haven't seen him in anything recently. It's a shame, he's a great character actor.

When I first heard the title of this would-be Dawson's Creek successor, I immediately thought of New Zealand (due to the Auckland/Maori connection) and then the wonderful track from The Joshua Tree by U2. After reading over the synopsis of the show, it apparently has no earthly connection to either. Does anyone know if the WB will at least shell out the $$ to use the U2 song over the credits ala Paula Cole for Dawson?
How appropriate would that be?

Using that wonderful U2 track (off one of the best rock albums in memory, no less) to intro what sounds like yet another vapid teen soap from WB, the "rim shot" network.
U2 appropriate?

The show is set in Tree Hill, North Carolina. Why not just call the series Tree Hill? By calling it ONE TREE HILL they are making a connection (intentional or not) to an area of Auckland, New Zealand that IS named ONE TREE HILL (named so by Sir John Logan Campbell in 1840. The native people refer to it as Maungakiekie). A close friend of Bono, Greg Carroll (a Maori) was killed in an accident and Bono penned the song ONE TREE HILL in tribute to his New Zealand friend. What does any of this have to do when teen angst on the WB? Nothing, as far as I can tell. I can also tell you that I've been to my share of weddings over the last 10 years where U2's ONE was played, so I'm gathering that a lot of people didn't listen to carefully to lyrics of that great tune for it's appropriateness to the occasion. SMALLVILLE once played ELEVATION over the scene of a man getting thrown into a windshield. Pretty odd but hey, it was a hit record! I don't know if the WB is using the U2 song that the title of their show obviously comes from, that's why I asked. As to why it would be appropriate--- through the lyrics? Not in the least. Because it's a song from a band with worldwide popularity and might draw attention to a new show in the crush of fall debuts? Seems plausible. But since when did television have to do anything that made sense? One last thing: http://www.americansforclark.c om (now that DOES make sense!)
One Tree Hill will not be using the U2 song

The title song is called "I Don't Want to Be" by hunky newcomer Gavin DeGraw. The song is about his life, growing up the son of prison guard. I'm sure the song will be stripped down a bit, but it could reflect the charismaless Chad Michael Murry character, as DeGraw sings about "knowing where I'm coming from/I don't want to be/anything other than what I've been trying to be lately." Interesting choice, but it could work. If anything, it can make DeGraw hot. His debut CD, Chariot, is well crafted piece of popular music. I met Gavin in August at a concert here at the House of Blues in Chicago. He is charming and honest guy. Buy this CD folks, you'll like it.
Named after the U2 song?

There was a U2 song on The Joshua Tree album (1987) called "One Tree Hill." I wonder if there is a connectin.

I couldn't sit through the entire hour. It was being hailed as the next Dawson's Creek, but atleast DC was good in the beginning. By the time it started to suck, everyone was attached, so they watched anyways. Look out for "Wonderfalls" now this is a good show. Comes on in January. HILARIOUS!

Yeah, we do need to start talking about this show. It was a pretty wicked second ep'. Very creepy, but I still don't know what's in store. "Management" is a dancing Russian bear with a penchant for eating WWI corpses? We'll just have to find out. What about that wicked creepy jar fetus? Yikes!
