Hola, Indio2 here in Mexico city... Man I get tired of North Americans, most of whom ONLY speak English, bitch'n about this site's international contributer's grammer and spelling... I liker to see how you all fare in a Swedish Chat room, or even Spanish for that matter. I doubt Hakkansson's computer has English Spell Check readily available, does yours have Swedish? And Harry and Fathergeek have repeatedly stated over the years that THEY prefer printing the international reports as they come in, flaws and all. AICN feels its adds local color to the reports, like dialectic spelling in lots of great novels, and film scripts... ever read Mark Twain?

...had the suckiest twist ending since Kevin Costner was revealed to be a KGB double-agent in the last ten seconds of NO WAY OUT. A complete cheat that made me want to slash the screen. I thoroughly enjoyed the first hour of that film but it went downhill very, very fast.
Thanks Indio...

I couldn't said that better... Yeah, maybe we need to run TOM SAWYER, or HUCKLEBERRY FINN thru Spell Check they are chock full of really bad spelling errors, and while we're at it we might as well correct all Tarantino's screenplays too.

It really fucking sucks it never got a large theatrical release. Now i have to pay twenty fucking dollars on a DVD I might watch a couple of times. it's a Lions gate flick isn't it? Maybe showtime will show it like they did with that menstrating werewolf movie that was really good. Damn, the name escapes me.

I didn't see what the big deal was about May

Especially the performances which seemed so over the top. I'm an Angela Bettis fan and I'm sure she'll do good things but she hammed it up for most of the film when she is her usual mousy self. It wasn't until the climax of the film (which I won't ruin) that I can understand the acclaim for her. Sisto would be the standout, being the only believable character in the film. With the characters so unbelievable the rest of the film fell apart for me. I also don't want to hear shit about how I didn't get it. I got it just fine. The characters were supposed to be over the top but instead of being a means to advance the story and add a subtle surreal nature to May's world it seemed like it was a way to shove the film's weirdness down the throats of the viewer.

Hey I was at the screening for May - 5pm, had to leave work ealry and everything. Anyhow, I don't recall many people walking out at all. Maybe one elderly couple and that was it. There was an usher who kept walking in and walking out and a couple of people who got up, walked out and then walked back in five minutes later. Toilet breaks, huh? The Festival crowd really is a slack one. 'Parasite Doll' - one of the most bland, low grade anime noir films I've seen - wasn't made much easier to tolerate when people were still turning up half an hour into the film. As for 'May' - it's sort of 'Carrie' with stitches. Also another apologist serial killer film in some ways. Remember how everyone complained about 'Hannibal' giving Lecter the usual childhood reasons for being a psycho nutter? Everyone wanted him to not be explained. Evryone wanted him to be born that way. Well 'May' shows us a dysfuctional woman who is so insecure that the usual knock abouts of love that everyone faces sends her into a killing spree (oh, was that a spoiler? Geez - what did you think was gonna happen in the film?). It's not her fault really, it's her dodgy, domineering mother (hello 'Psycho'), her weird doll and her funny eye. Or something. Okay, it's a genre film that takes the usual tropes of its genre and reconfigures them a little. But not all that much. Mostly it's got okay to good performances, is well shot and has a nice script that is darkly funny in a non-wink at the audience sort of way. But it's not insightful into the folks about us who are marginalised (after all it is suggesting that one or two little pushes could turn them into Ted Bundy). And I can't help but feel the lead role is, well, a cliche. The role runs the usual "damaged" person as childlike, innocent and naive - and then rams this home with overly large metaphors (the patchwork dressed reflecting the patchwork personality), and child-ish signifiers (everything from the mother-doll to the awkard smoking). It's interesting though, that when May goes nutso she turns, momentarily, confident and sassy. All of this makes me wonder what the director thinks of women ... Maybe he just hasn't been, um, 'lucky'?
just some thoughts...

I was not surprised about the ending in Identity at all but I still liked the movie some what... Now about May that was a pretty good movie, pretty freaky compared to everything else out lately and anyone who thought The Ring was dark scary movie needs to see that and or Frality which is a movie I personally loved

How can you complain about it having a shit ending when the book that it was adapted from (Ten Little Niggers (Indians in later versions) by Agatha Christie) had the stupidest fucking ending ever. The book proper was great when it left you not knowing who the killer was (because all the suspects were dead) and then they have this stupid dukb-fuck epilogue with a message in a bottle where the guy pretended to be dead and then somehow rigged some thing to make the dead chick shoot him. Would you rather have that?

The Ring was an impressively made film for pg13. I know it's not the scariest movie ever made, but one hell of a go nonetheless. Ringu is r rated, and as such is in a totally different ballgame. And that mullholand drive chick is really hot. God I love her voice.
