I think the arm was animatronic (not that I was there) because Spidey movies and good CGI don't mix. And where's the ROTK reports Quint? Or was that Chris Lee one the only thing we're gonna get? And how come there's no report on the ROTK footage shown at ComiCon?

First there was the "eye cam" from Evil Dead 2 then the "arrow cam" from Army of Darkness, now there is the "tentacle cam"? Cool. I heard from either Cinescape or a writer for this site that Raimi is planning to use live action tentacles as much as possible, which I think is an excellent move. Great scoop, great pics (for what they show), and great prospects for the Spiderman franchise in the future.

Fantastic and bad ass, just like a proper villain should be. At least he doesn't look like a Power ranger monster. Just think how laughable it would have been if they had given him the exact comic book look. In my opinion it was his retarded attire that always seemed to keep him from being a threatening villain. Fantastic Raimi, now lets see if you can keep from short changing his role in the film like you did the Green Goblin in the first picture. You have no excuse now that you don't have the origin story to tell.

It's essential that Parker has the costume early considering it's the main reason the symbiote seeked out Eddie Brock, it could feel the hatred for Peter Parker. Other than that I don't even care that they get rid of the Secret Wars intro for the suit as long as they don't make the symbiote a "lab experiment gone wrong". Thats getting a bit too cliche.

Doc Ock actually looks pretty awesome I must say, mind you, they could have dressed him in an Oompa Loompa outfit and he'd still look better than The Green Goblin from the first film. The only problem I have though is the coat, it looks cool and all, but it still should be white - I know the brown-ish coat will look better on screen, but why change it?

Molina looks totally badass in that picture. I personaly quite like the black trenchcoat and that's coming from a huge fan of the comics, although I don't think he'll wear it all the time, probably just to keep the tentacles hidden. Do you think that he'll actually be refered to as Doc Ock at any point? I hope that in this one we get more of the wise cracking Spidey that I've always loved, I can understand why there wasn't a lot of that in the first one (after all his uncle had just been killed and it was kinda his fault) but by now he should be more settled into the hero role and be able to have a little fun with it. By the way is there any information on whether or not there is going to be a sequel to Daredevil or if there's gonna be X3 with Singer directing? Just wondering.

I think Doc Ock looks awsome in those pics, dark and sinister, with some bad ass tenticles!!!! I think only Venom should be the bad guy in Spidey 3, would be too much of a screw around to fit Carnage in as well and having to explain both of them and fit them into one film. Instead of the Secret Wars story to introduce the Black Suit, why not use the story from the Animated Series, with the symbiote being trapped on an asteroid?? Personally tho, I think they will use the story from the recent Ultimate Spiderman comics and have the suit being a science experiment. I dont care how Venom turns up, JUST BRING ME VENOM!!!!!!!!

Everyone knows Doc Ock is the comic books is, as Bart Simpson might say, "pretty chunkified." Still, if the heavy-ish Jack Nicholson could pull off the Joker, who of course looks anorexic in the comics, this should work too. btw: have we lost the war on the title issue? It's DEFINITELY hitting theaters next summer with "Spider-Man 2" on the marquee? Can't win 'em all, I suppose.

Geez...you know...it disappoints me time and time again to read these talkbacks and see people react to a product that looks quite cool with nagging details like "his coat is black and not white and I like it white wwaaaaaaa". You read this site, you should have a general idea of how the business works by now...and there's no way in hell that an adaptation is going to make it through Hollywood completely faithful to it's source material. So it's a darker coat...I'm sure he's in the white coat at some point in the movie but then he realizes that he's meant to look menacing. Just deal with it.
Trench Coat
by clj124
Jul 20th, 2003
11:35:30 AM
I have been reading Spiderman for quite some time, longer than some of the posters on this board. The trench coat is a minor adustment that has been made to the overall product. If you want to complain about changes that have been made to a character look at Electro on that new animated series. Those changes were far more than minor tweaks. The trench coat was most likely used because it could hide what ever was controling the arms better than the white lab coat. Do not forget Sam Ramni did not want to use CGI for arms. Just my opinion. Now stop complaining and go kiss a girl, or move out of your parents basement!

WHY FIRST SPIDEY WASN'T GOOD
by stlfilmwire
Jul 20th, 2003
12:32:52 PM
Peter learning his Spidey skills and becoming Spiderman was good. But it was stupid that the Green Goblin and Spidey become hero and bad guy in what seems to be the exact same week. It is also silly how Osborne takes a liking to Peter and it's extra stupid how a scientist would go over to some old lady's house to eat Thanksgiving. I hope they don't make similar mistakes... but they will. The animated spidey looked terrible. They need to make more of the fight scenes and web swinging scenes take place at night. I didn't like Daredevil, but atleast they were smart and masked the poor animation with shadows.

for the record, the tentacles that are seen in the new teaser from sony are mostly the puppets made by Steve Johnson's EdgeFX, and they look damn amazing. Johnson has always done exceptional work, and his attention to detail is unparalleled. im sure some of that scene was cgi, but from my sources its a whole lotta animatronic puppets.....i heard they have like 20 puppeteers who help bring ock to life! johnson's crew and the imageworks guys have pulled off a truly amazing character...i cant wait to see more! more to come if i hear about it! comic-con was great! lates!

White coats, brown coats - doesn't really matter, the coat isn't
by brokentusk
Jul 20th, 2003
01:41:17 PM
There really isn't any need to hate Doc Ock's look, it's not over the top, corny or fake-looking (like the Green Goblin costume) and he actually looks like he's really pissed off, which is always good. I don't think he looks like a cross between Neo and a Sentinel (even though the idea is hilarious if not awkward), bare in mind that even in the comic books he wears sun glasses and a coat. Granted, in the comics it was a white lab coat (if I remember correctly) and I don't know the reason why they felt they had to change the coat's colour, but that REALLY doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things - the point is: he looks cool. Plus there's the fact that I doubt this guy wears the same coat every day. How many scientists do you know who wear their white lab coats while standing on top of buildings (or wherever he is), or even in public? I'm hoping this time Raimi goes for a much darker tone than the first movie and includes Spidey's comic jibes as he's fighting the villian. White coat or no white coat - this character's design is awesome and the main thing we should be focusing on is the tentacles, which are perfect. I am now going to kiss a girl.

It would be interesting if he looked menacing but he doesn't. He's a skinny geek with four metal arms. I'm thrilled! Can't wait! Molina is an INCREDIBLE actor, and instead of everyone bitching about the color of the coat and that the tentacles look too Matrix-y, can we thank Raimi & Laura Ziskin for picking stellar actors like Dafoe & Molina and NOT FREAKIN' MOVIE STARS for the cast?? And I'm tired of people shitting on the first movie. It's not perfect, but it did so many things well (especially in the first hour) that I'm willing to forgive it (ESPECIALLY in the wake of the big action shitfest movies of this summer). I'm very optimistic about Spidey 2, and will just try to shut all you naysayers out. My only request: MORE J.J.J.!!! J.K. Simmons is just too damn brilliant as Jameson, and I hope he figures in more this time around. And I'll say it again for the inevitable Spidey 3: BEN KINGSLEY IS THE VULTURE!!! Nuff said.

by thefutureoffilm

i know that they are introducing Dr.Connors in Spiderman 2 but I think that they should have Harry Osborn discover the Spiderman suit in Peter's room just like in the comics. At that point he realizes that the "only family he has left" was the one that "murdered" his father. He then somehow finds the goblin suit and glider and becomes the next Green Goblin, setting up The second Green Goblin for Spiderman 3 !!!! Oh yeah Karl Malone does suck.

Molina doesn't like still photography. He thinks it's far different than acting... so he tries to avoid it as much as possible. Can't blame the guy. I'm sure he wasn't being a Diva or anything... he's just insecure about his looks. Since Louis Theroux's profile had been often confused with Molinas, Grant Curtis went ahead and said "What the hell." On the early teaser stills, it will be Theroux... but I'm sure they'll get Molina on the final poster.
Spidey 2: whats the title? spidey united? spidey returns?
by scarletspyder
Jul 20th, 2003

Doc ock looks very cool..granted too much of a look a like to a squidy from matrix..but some people have a little too much imagination if they think he's the product of a neo/squidy crossbreeding product (your probably thinking about your siblings in the same way....very sick). As to the title: has there been anymore positive titles been announced. Spidey Lives, etc sucks!!! and Spidey 2 with a possible title is a bad idea (that was my only quible with x-men 2. My final word: who the hell brought up Batman movies!!!! the comparisons to the batman trilogy (yes trilogy. batman and robin should not exist. every piece of evidence of it existence should be wiped of this earth) to spidey is a terrible comparison and that person should be shot. Batman vs predator vs aliens. who came up with that idea..two of the above absolutley..people with actual decent sized brains will no which ones will actually be possible. the combination of the three maybe stretching it in the comic books, never mind the big screen. until Bruce cambell rights spideys lines in the next film (which he should as he has that kind of humor sadly needed in the first film i'm going be sceptic as to is success over the first film. my bet for spidey 3 villian: sinister 6. kill 6 birds in one movie, as a franchise past 4 movies with the same cast will be pushing fans and critics a like. to those who disagree with any of the above: bring it on Hormell Chili!!!!!!!!!

You can just sense it I think... This won't have all the pointless set up of Parker trying to get his mack on and etc. I did like the first one a lot its better then most movies lately and its still better then the 2 X-Men movies amd Daredevil... Doc Ock looks kick ass too... Another thing I wanted to mention was someone brought up Ben Kingsley, I think he would be great as the Vulture when the guy is old... I doubt they will ever make a movie with that character they will most likely do Venom and Carnage... Sure, they may have Doc Connors in this movie, but that doesn't mean that the Lizard will ever be seen on film. His origin is the exact same as Green Goblin and Doc Ock, and I think Riami would only get away with repeating the scientist testing on himself and going evil origin once. So the only way we'll be seeing the Lizard in a Spidy sequel would be with an altered origin, or reviewers would howl for blood. And whoever this Karl Malone is, I'm sure he is a donkey sucker. I mean, just look at the name.

This is for all of you generation x, still in diapers comic fans.........GET A LIFE !! To write in whining about Ock's trenchcoat is immature and a little pathetic. If you'd done even a little research you would know that Dr. Octopus never wore a white lab coat,....that was Dr. Conners (aka the Lizard) Ock traditionally wore a green and orange outfit. I've been a fan and collecter for over 2 decades now and personally I think Molina looks great ! The only thing I'd hope they will do is to make Ock as sinister and ruthless as he was in the comics. It pains me to see the young people of this day and age so concerned with such trivial things. How about being pissed that the Goblin looked like a power ranger reject, or that they made Kingpin a black man? Regardless of your whining, I think Spider-man 2 is gonna rock ! Doctor Octopus is by far one of Spidey's most deadliest enemies.......I'm looking forward to it. 'Nuff said !!

I don't mind it, but I'm hoping -- and kind of expecting -- that they did that partly to obscure the arms a bit ... I mean, if they're permanently attached to him (as in the comics), he MIGHT actually want to walk around in a trenchcoat to hide them. (I hope I didn't just say something stupid; I didn't read the article, because I didn't want the story to be spoiled -- I just wanted to see the Doc, and I'm happy.)

Kingpin was fine in "DAREDEVIL" the main problem was that you guys bitched about him not being white and about Mark Steve Johnson. He did the movie fine, the only problem was it was too short. If a bigger story were to develop then it would been ranked better with "BATMAN", "SPIDER-MAN", and "SUPERMAN". Doc Ock's coat is probably just something he is going to wear while walking down the street. I'm sure Raimi will give him the orange and green armored suit, if not then he'll give him the scientist lab suit. And Green Goblin did not look like a Power Rangers reject. It looked fine. It looked sinister. Sure, they could've colored coated some purple on the helmet to make it more "comic-booky" and "true" to the comics, but I think the suit was more realer. So, all you geeks quit bitching about things and enjoy the movies and the people who make them.

I've been a fan of Molina's since his role in a little film called "Scorpion Spring" (why isn't it on DVD yet???). He'll make a great Doc Ock. And as long as they stay far away from CGI for the most part, the better. That was my only gripe about the last Spidey film. I still laugh every time I see the balcony scene in the World Unity Festival. They make it appear like its hundreds of feet above the street when it was only about 20ft. off the groud at the Downey lot. Were they trying to be ironic by having a defense contractor (Oscorp) sponsor a music/peace festival for a PR stunt? Quick, someone read the legal brief from Ted Newsom to find out...

Say what you will about how the stereotypical mad scientist look speaks to you, but this look is fine. Anyone who thinks this picture foretells a bad movie is completely anal.

Enough with the smarmy Green Goblin insults. Honestly, it's really annoying. I almost wish I could reach through the computer and bitch-slap some of you. People have to accept the fact that comic books don't have as many boundaries as movies do. Plunking a quasi-medieval monster (a la Alex Ross's interpretation) isn't as seamless as it probably appears to be in your imagination. No, it's not a perfect film, and yes, people have a right to get worked up over certain changes, but this isn't even like the Punisher's hair color. While it's in a sense more prominent than that, it's also harder to work into the movie. Really, just think about it for a second. The whole movie would have needed an overhaul, and with that you risk losing certain scenes that are more important to the story than how high the Green Goblin's costume ranks on AngryTalkbacker999's jizz-o-meter. I don't say this for the sake of being contemptible, but in defense of the people who actually did work on this project. ******* On a different note, I am kind of wondering whether or not the audience is going to get sick of lab experiments gone wrong (all of them in New York) creating an assembly line of supervillains. Green Goblin, Octavius, The Lizard, and possibly Venom (or Carnage if New Line holds out) would all most likely be test tube babies. Greek tragedy, meet frying pan.

Doc Ock looks cool. I find it hard to fathom how miserable some people are out there that they would start fussing based soley on a preliminary image. I'm an old school comic book fan, and always labored under the assumption that people who posted here were fairly bright fans, but based on what I read here lately a lot of these folks are either chronic whiners, or just out-and-out dumbasses. Sorrow, sorrow. I won't waste time stating what some other posters have more than eloquently said. We've all had to deal with the movie-izing of our favorite characters. Imagine my distress at seeing my idol Wolverine played by some tall, pretty guy. But, dammit, they got the job done. I personally don't think anyone would want to see too literal a translation of comic to screen. That would look very... gay. Which is fine if gay is what your aiming for, but in order for these movies to be anything more than camp, cult or kitsch, dammit, you have to to be willing to go with it, trust in these well-paid, pseudo-intelligent professionals to bring this unusual imagery to the screen. More often than not, over the past few years they've been pretty good at it. I don't pretend to know how good this movie will be. It'd be one of the nicer things in life if they could produce a healthy, successful franchise, something that you could look back on in a few years and say, "Y'know, I was very entertained/moved/pleased with the Spider-Man series." It can be done. But some o' you tards gotta get used to the fact that Joe Cinema ain't gonna want to see a dumpy scientist in an olive-green jumpsuit. Redundant as it sounds, the bar has been raised by movies like The Matrix. I'm pretty damn sure there's no going back to technicolor tights.

Just in case anyone else is still interested, Mike Mignola came out Saturday afternoon to the Con to discuss the HELLBOY film still in production, He didn't really have any news, as they are still in production in Prague, but he did show a five minute behind the scenes clip and it looked pretty good, if a little cheesy, He confessed it might not capture the full feeling yet, but that's only because they haven't finished production or begun post-production work yet. He is involved in every aspect, from pre-production and hopes to follow it through post. He's been working with director on this for 7 years, and seems very pleased with every aspect of the film adaptation. Other comic-con news: Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman just wrapped then production on MIRRORMASK, a really cool looking fable for the Jim Henson company in the tradition of THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABRYNTH (sp?). Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted festival has a bunch of new cartoons, and surprisingly many of them are actually funny and cringe-worthy in a good way.

Better than the Mecha Goblin from the first movie. He looked like a Micronaut... which would've been fine if they'd been doing a Micronauts movie, but they weren't. I was afraid they'd go with the green & yellow battle-armored action figure style for the Doctor, but maybe they're calming down a little bit (or maybe Steve Ditko tracked down Raimi and gave him a good bitch-slappin'). At this rate, there's hope that we'll get a nice, basic old-school Lizard in Spider-Man 3 (a seven-foot tall gecko in a lab coat and purple pants... NOT the huge, naked iguana-man seen in MTV's "Spider-Man: The Legend of Zelda"). GET OVER IT. pay attention to the adaptation. it is a military design. would you prefer spandex which never looks good on film? think back to the batman movie of the sixties...a terrible costume when worn by an actor, yet fear inspiring in print. case in point:full adaptaion is impossible, for the simple reason that alot of times, people that have an ability to act, just do not look good or menacing in skin tight spandex. thank you.

Hopefully Raimi saw HULK, a real superhero movie, and realized that this is how he wanted to and should have done Spider-man. I won't be able to sit thru another Spider-man done as a movie of the week like the first one was. The Garbage Pail Kids movie had better direction and more interesting special effects. Not that it was bad, it was just so mediocre. HULK at least took some chances with the material, and it was really, really weird. But it really worked because the effects were great and because of the direction! It was a comic book brought to life! Exactly how I thought Raimi would film Spider-man! All those split screens and angles and weird shit coming out of nowhere. And as for the Matrix influence, that's fine, I'd much rather have them copy the Matrix's fx than use the same unimaginative stuff in SPider-One. If they were going to do a Matrix rip off though they should have made the villain Mysterio "a magical, mysteria, when ya get that feelin, better start believin!" Fans should be thankful for Mollina though just because he's nto a big star that everyone knows like Dafoe was. Dafoe gave a really good performance but people should have been really creeped out by the Goblin, but it was just Dafoe *playing* the Goblin. He's too well known. A similar thing happened with Nolte and HULK except Nolte really did a poor job and was just miscast completley.

The Alien Costume is something that they really shouldn't change because it really negates the whole point of Venom in the first place if they alter the origin. The costume needs to attatch itself to Peter first so it can absorb his powers, and then get pissed off when Peter ditches it. It then finds Brock and endows him with Peter's powers and bulging penis. It's a Spider-Man vs Spider-Man story. I mean, that's where these things always go anyway. Superman III was Superman vs Superman, Wolverine fought Mystique as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie, and Picard fought himself in Star Trek 10. The idea thing would be for Peter to aquire and abandon the costume in Spidey 3 and then have Venom in Spidey 4. This would echo the brilliant way they handled Zod and co. in Superman I and II. And to have Spidey fight in the black costume in 3 would be a great way to sell more Spidey action figures!! It's certainly a better idea than the costumes they did for Batman Forever and B&R for no apparent reason. They also need to do a "whodunnit" Hobgoblin story involving Harry as one of the possible suspects. That's the only way to do it. I mean, I don't know why they'd just do the Green Goblin II story instead of doing the Hobby story instead. This could be Spidey V and it could bring things full circle from the first film nicely.

Alfa .. Eight limbs.. two arms, two LEGS, and four tentacles.. As for you folks calling mechanical tentacles "Sentinel-style"?? This is getting old guys .. The X-Men going black leather was so-so, but dark clothes for a villain, killing the mid-20th-Century sterotype for someone interested in science always wearing a labcoat, even on the street?? All for it .. Doesn;t matter what color it was, is, or will be, as far as the costume derivation goes, since Neo was not the first action star to don black leather trench-wear, just the first one TRL-worshipping fanboys ever were exposed to. The look was meant to signify retro-hip, as opposed to the retro-square of the puter agents, suupllanted by the puter assassins in grey trenchcoats in this flick. Sorry for you guys if the sequel to what you believe to be the only sci-fi movie ever made didn;t pan out, but with your blind support, Silver will sell you out in a couple years and make more bad product, just like Marvel was prepared to do when the tepid receptions of the original Punisher film seemed to support the geek in charge's opinion that comic fans just weren;t that important to the success of the movies based on the comics themselves. This particular form of subgenius logic leads to the possibility of Marvel really ending up only using its characters for product-tie-in marketing, as in commercials and ad copy for kids' products.(THIS WAS THE PLAN BY the MARVEL CEO, to abandon comic production in its traditional sense and depend on merchandising revenue for the characters to support the company.) DC's former Batman writers/editors alleged that people on the streets were legitimately upset that Robin was axed in the 80's, and that the buying customers meant less than the people on the streets who grew up on the pathetic show and bad comics code stories of the 60's and 70's that nearly killed DC. Sorry, but this argument about people on the street knowing more about what is better for the stories almost works based on the reactions from this board over a frigging COAT. This Shatner-diss inspiring nitpicking is what costs you whatever credibility you gain with other people on the subject of the genres we geeks claim to love best. It is not just comics, sci-fi, and fantasy fans that do this though. Try reading several issues of scholar journals featuring different researchers discussing the same event or subject. Even better read works by differing disciplines regarding particulat events or subjects. Bickering is universal, but our much-loved genres suffer because of the stigma that we pay attention to such small detail because we get so absorbed in the things we enjoy. What makes it worse are people who THINK they are geek enough to have a point and then miss the gist of reality as everyone knows it. The Matix was one movie, with many genres and oconventions combined, making it unique in the sense that it synthesized myths and ideas and modern legend to thee point that the result blended well. This is too often a one-time thing however, and those of you waiting for lightning to strike again in this first sequel should remember that for every Blair Witch, there was a Book of Shadows, for very Exorcist there was an Exorcist II:The Heretic. Real trilogies show that they are trilogies in that while each book may resolve, the books together tell a story. Perhaps there will be an edit that comes out with the Special Edition DVD of Reloaded that will be like a reboot of the story, tightening up its flow and giving people abetter sense of what they wanted to accom;lish. As for Doc Ock, don't worry about whether he will come off like Poison Ivy or Bane or Mr Freeze, but worry that he will be badly lit or shot like GG was in the first film, a cinematography and final print choice that was the best compromise considering the time-frame they worked with. I hope with the extra time available with this film that the tweas neeeded to the Spidey motions and lighting will be resolved. Sam Raimi, when not rushed and aloowed to trust his own judgments generally comes in under budget, doing amazing things with the moeny he spent. Personally I think they should go Hobgoblin with Harry Osborn, since Green Goblin's suit drew such fiery ire.

I'm so used to seeing comic characters upholstered in leather that the trenchcoat didn't even phase me. What did bother me a bit though is the look of the tentacles. Why couldn't they just be cylindrical like in the comics? I'm surprised others haven't said anything about that. I don't mind some changes from paper to film, but unnecessary changes do annoy me. If you're creating something for film that doesn't exist in "real life", why can't it just be faithful to the comic?

from my sources....who i owe so much, say that they in fact DID try to do it originally as it was drawn, with the cylindrical tentical shape coming off of his sides...and they said it looked like silver dryer hose. so they decided to play with other shapes and came up with this one, kind of "pear shaped" and they made the claws much more dynamic instead of the little fingers from the comic....i understand your wanting to remain faithfull to the comics...but sometimes when you translate something literally, it isn't nearly as cool. just a thought. and as for a sense of balance and weight, c'mon...im sure they thought up some ultra lightweight metal or something for the tentacles! let your sense of realism go folks.....imagination is much more fun, as the designers of docock are trying to show us.

OK, my turn. All I can say is that When I looked at the Green Goblin long enough, I thought: "If I were young, I'd scare the hell from me." And those tentacles, GROOVY. -Now, about our American translation of this "literature". face it people, these are our Gods. If you knew Spidey 4 years ago, you'd know wat this is all about. "Finally!" I say, some cinema that is high energy and passionate about WHAT MAKES COOL- COOL. - And, finally; Sam Raimi: as soon as I realized his name and his movies i thought he was a good filmmaker. Hell, for a shit budget, even Darkman entertained my dad. It was WAAAY out there, but still had cool stuff- Payton Westlake getting blown through the air like a human fireball, "I'm learning to live with a lot of things.", forget that he HAS NO LIPS. Bruce Cambell as Final Shemp ties it all together for me. I GOT it. And it WAS COOL. - No Doubt S2 will be fun for me, time will tell if it is truly an American classic. If you'll notice, in the poster, one of the tentacles is anchored to the ground supporting Doc Oc. A friend of mine is an animator on this show and says that lower two tentacles sometimes act as supports when Doc Oc is carrying heavy things. He says in some scenes, the tentacles actually do the walking and carry the brunt of the weight, otherwise his spine would snap. It's OK that you did not like Spider-man but your reasoning in the talkback earlier is totally whacked. Mr. Osbourne did not have Thanksgiving dinner at some old lady's house. It was at Peter and Harry's loft. It was Peter and Harry's first Thanksgiving in their own place and they both invited their only family. Seems perfectly normal to me. And Mr. Osbourne takes a liking to Peter because they are both into science while Norman's own son is not. As for Mr. Molina, I think he was a good choice and looks rather menacing in the poster.

This will most likely be a 2 hour plus flick, so a lot can happen during that time. Octavius could merely be using the black trenchcoat when he goes out incognito...he probably does wear the white lab coat whilst in his lab, and Spidey could bust in on him and they could battle it out, white coat and all. And after a few battles with the webhead, Ock may realize he needs to up his arsenal, such as with a green and orange armor suit, lest he run into him again. These are just things I would like to see happen if only for a second or two in the flick, but whose to say?

No talk of Superman being the best comic book film ever. Superman spun the earth backwards and it turned back time. That scene alone makes it ineligible for the title of best comic movie ever.

Doc Ock is lookin' MIGHTY fine! AWESOME even, and yeah ... SCREW the assholes saying he's too "Matrix" ... He's got tentacles, He's got glasses, He's got the "larger framed" Alfred Molina bringing him to life ... he's nearly perfect! So Shaddap! You know you're going to watch it anyway!! I mean, I immediately thought the Green Goblin's costume was goofy and I LOVED the 1st Spider-Man movie (even GG) so this one's lookin' A-Ok.

Why does everyone always say "Matrix" when something looks similar? For God's sake, The Matrix didn't create slow-motion!TONS of movies used slow-motion before it! And that crappy Wing commander movie actually used that "bullet-time" effect first. The Matrix didn't invent black trenchcoats! When I was in high school, they had them! This kid always wore one!The Matrix didn't invent the idea of an all-powerful person! Superman, Spiderman, Jesus... just name a freakin' superhero, and bam, it's automatically relating to The Matrix. Don't think The Matrix revolutionized anything other than people's abilities to be so naive. Jesus, gimme a break with all this "Matrix" BS. Besides, the second one wasn't even that good.

There are so many other better villains out there. Also, I agree w/ everyone that is for the "introduce the black suit in part 3/Venom in part 4" idea. It's the only way to make it work. And I wouldn't want Carnage involved at all; too complex. Is there any word on how long Raimi will be on board? I don't want to see anyone come in and "Schumaker" everything up. Lastly, I'm sorry I can't contribute more to the embarassingly retarded trench coat debate.

I can't properly express just how sick to death I've been for years upon years upon years, of every single science fiction movie that has even a handful of scenes in the rain, at night, being labeled as borrowing heavily in design from Blade Runner. Decades after Blade Runner. Sure, speaks to BR's impact that it remains a reference point (and it's one of my favorite movies of all time--sorry, "both" versions), but the sheer laziness of reviewers pointing it out anytime there's a downpour in a futuristic metropolis does a disservice to both films. Night, rain, urban, I guess that's all that's necessary to discuss to sum up a film's visuals. (Lazy bastards.) ...So, now it looks like "The Matrix" is going to be the trope trotted out daily for its "style" and "influence." Eh, whatever, not as huge a fan. But it's funny, how all one needs is a leather trenchcoat and shades to be labeled "Matrixy" these days. I wonder if that's going to annoy or inflate the Matrix junkies. All I know is, going by the M:Revolutions teaser there's a fight between Neo and Smith (1) downtown (2) at night (3) in the rain. The first Revolutions reviewer to reference Blade Runner will be getting a knock on their door soon after.

How lucky you movie industry people can be ... to have the opportunity ... just to HAVE the freakin' OPPORTUNITY to do what you do. - - I've dreamed of making fantasy films ALL my life, ... to make those movies (that I saw) in my mind's eye, when I'd read my favorite comic books as a child. - - But ... you know what's worse than THAT slow torture? Choosing to be "realistic" when you're young, deciding to pursue a comic book career as an artist, ultimately getting turned down time and time again despite letters of encouraging words, meeting the V.President of a MAJOR comic book publisher whom likes your work but doesn't offer you a job, finally getting fed up with the industry and giving up ... and then deciding to work a dead-end job the rest of your life. - - I want to be passionate about what I do, for a living, for a change.

You're right, there should be a tolerance for those vocing dissent. All the same, some of you folks have to learn when to pick your battles. While it's all well and good to implore us to put ourselves in your shoes, it's also prudent that people learn to put themselves in the filmmakers' shoes. While a number of talkbackers can make more eloquent criticisms about their misgivings with Molina's appearance (i.e. noticing a trend of leather-clad miscreants, thinking the look of the tentacles are a hard sell), there are others who, at the opposite end of the spectrum from those who decide everything about it rocks, overcompensate for their anxiety by declaring that everything about it sucks (ignorance works both ways, you know). Being relentlessly bitchy is not as effective as you think it is, and in fact may cheapen any dissent that's actually been earned by larger mistakes than this. And, in closing, I know that talkbacks are the places where former rhetoric students go to die, but misconstruing Roach666's comments like that was just low, man. If you're gonna get into that kind of logic, then don't imply that Spidey 2 (*might or might not be*) short on character development right before you proclaim that a leather jacket on a poster is not indicative of a movie's quality.

Surprised no one else thinks so. Doc Ock in a green trenchcoat. Don't see why that would piss anyone off, which is probably why those looking for a reason to bitch (when there is no reason to be had) say that it's black. Also, on Dark Horizons (I think) they confirmed that it's a green coat. As far as I'm concerned, this guy looks perfect. I wouldn't change a damn thing.

Coming Attractions at Cinescape has some interesting details about Doc Ock's tentacles in Spider-Man 2. Here's a clip... Unlike the character's comic book counterpart, Doctor Octopus' tentacles each have a different function and are able to do different things. You can see a hint of this if you look very closely at the ends of each of the tentacles; the ends appear similar but have minor differences from each other. "The four claws are not identical...for very cool reasons," writes our source. And listening to what Marvel Studios' Avi Arad had to say at the SPIDER-MAN 2 panel on Saturday, they might also each have their own distinct personality! Now we're really excited to see these babies in full action against Spidey! "Each of the tentacles has the underside painted yellow like a snake belly," our source goes on to say. "The yellow is a bright 'police line' kind of yellow. It really makes the tentacles look like serious machinery." Again, if you look closely at the teaser image Sony provided us you'll be able to indeed see a yellow stripe running down one side of each tentacle.

The yellow hue of the pic makes it look brown, but green would be a nice nod to his original costume. Also, how cool is the idea of the tentacles having a mind of their own, sweet. I better go back to work. Smell ya later.

I'm desperately trying to find a song by a Texan band that came out in the UK in late summer/early autumn 1998. Can't remember the band's name or the name of the single, but the lyrics went: "They made up their mind...and they started packing...left before the sun came up that day...an exit to eternal summer slacking...where were they going without ever knowing the way?" And the chorus went: "Anyone could see the road they were travelling was paved in gold...it's always summer they'll never get cold...they'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and grey..." Can anyone help me out with what the band/song name are? Again, sorry for being off-topic.

What do I mean, you wonder? Well let's look at the suspects. The Lizard: green. Doc Ock: green clothing. Sandman had a green shirt. Electro was yellow and... green. Mysterio was purple and, you guessed it, green. Doctor Doom was an occasional villain, and he too had the love of green. The Green Goblin (could've been any other color goblin, but noooo. Guess it was phonetically fitting). And let's not forget The Vulture and The Scorpion. I mean, have you ever seen a green vulture or scorpion? I don't fuckin' think so. So what gives?
