And I've said it before, Harry, but Chinese names are pronounced surname first. It is Shu Qi. that's how it's written. I'm sure if you ever met a Chinese person (though I sure you did during your KILL BILL jaunt) I'm sure they'd have enough respect for your language to not call you 'Knowles Harry'. I swear, if I read 'Woo-Ping Yuen' one more time on this site...

Great little movie, pretty damn funny too. All in black and white though, or maybe that was just the TV. Been trying to find it over here on DVD but can't. I got that great 2 disc Volcano High though.....

Cannon used to finance some trickier art films as well as their usual junk, amazingly. They financed BARFLY, when Barbet Schroeder could not get anyone to back the film, and they even put their money into POWAQQATSI. Amazing, isn't it?

THE RESSURECTION OF THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL. While I do think it was incredibly hip and cool it struck me as annoyingly so. It just seemed to try too hard but maybe that's just because I didn't connect with it. I honestly dunno. Granted, it's beautifully directed and looks fantastic but it just didn't resonate for me for more than 5 or 10 minutes at any given time. But, hey, as Sly Stone once said, "Different Strokes For Different Folks, We're All Everyday People". To each his own...P.S. I can't wait until your PING PONG review. That movie kicks immeasurable amounts of ass. Could be the greatest sports movie of all time.

also released John Cassavetes's great LOVE STREAMS and Jean-Luc Godard's KING LEAR. According to Ray Carney's book CASSAVETES ON CASSAVETES, Cannon's Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus had aspirations in the 1980s to branch into the arthouse, which I guess explains RUNAWAY TRAIN, as well as the films Carney mentions (LOVE STREAMS, KING LEAR, Robert Altman's FOOL FOR LOVE, and Norman Mailer's TOUGH GUYS DON'T DANCE). I haven't seen RUNAWAY TRAIN, but it's a favorite of friend of mine, so maybe I'll check it out.

The little fruit has spent more time today emailing me than posting on the talkbacks! While in some ways I guess I'm flattered that emailing me has risen to number 2 on his daily priorities, just ahead of AICN but far behind exploring his own rectum with his middle finger, I am more disturbed by the fact that some 17 year old middle school student is this obsessed with me.

Damn, sometimes my bank manager wishes I never let my fellow talkbackers talk me in to the ways of the silver disc. Latest purchases ANIMATRIX - Very cool looking animation. "Final Flight of the Osiris" is worth the price of the disc all by itself, as is "The Second Renaissance" two parter. However there are episodes I just didn't get. If someone can explain "Matriculated " to me, I'd be grateful. MY LITTLE EYE - I'd heard precious little about this prior to release. I bought it on the strength of the advertising as being the most interactive dvd to date. Well, it is. Watch it in interactive mode and it's a totally different movie. You get all kind of background info and previously unseen footage in a "Big Brother" type package. Excellent take on the whole reality tv fad. 28 DAYS LATER - I grudgingly admit it's a good zombie flick. Grudgingly because I had a script for a zombie movie turned down by a certain media company, had they accepted - it would have been in production at the same time as this. (I'm a sore loser). K19 - so-so sub movie, but I'm a sucker for sub movies. BABYLON 5 SEASON 1 box - Beats the living hell out of DS9. Oh - and a box set of the 4 Batman movies. Bad enough they're vanilla releases with no special features. I had to take Batman & Robin as part of the set !!!!. And that's all - incidentally, if anybody cares, on MY desk, there's a computer, a phone, a lamp and a half size one-eyed skull. My son has the 14'' Hulk and as far as I know, it ain't straddlin' anything...

I rewrote Double Vision. Nothing huge, just reworking the American character, the dialogue, and trying to make the plot make sense as best I could. (Those Hong Kong guys really have their own special "logic") I still haven't seen the movie, but I'm glad to hear it works on a nice B-movie level, even if Sony did dump it straight to DVD. But actually, what has me the most excited is seeing David Morse, whose work I'm a huge fan of, saying my words - no matter how banal they are. A small reward but I can't wait. Morse can make anything sound good!

Anyone seen the system requirements for playing the ultra high resolution edition of this movie on a computer? You're supposed to have a 3 Ghz Processor. How many common consumers do they expect to have a computer like that? You also need a 128 meg video card and 512 megs of ram. Does this sound reasonable?

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM. excellent dissection of overseas indian culture. spot on. the sad thing is that even the rich are traumatized by the poverty of india. they bankrupt themselves on lavish weddings and ceremonies to (ironically) prove that they aren't poor.... sad. Roger Corman's New World Pictures released Ingmar Bergman and other foriegn & arthouse movies in the 70s. New Line Cinema started out with John Waters' 70s stuff. Even Carolco managed to slip a couple of non-Schwarzeneggar/Stallone flicks into theaters. A studio/distributor will put anything out when they're coming up as long as a little profit can be squeezed from it. Menahem Golan: Jon Voight? I don't see it. Have you considered Michael Dudikoff? Andrei Konchalovsky: (Groans)
