...because I'm assuming they will have some scenes, with, you know, actors n' stuff and it won't be one long special effects reel, since WETA does special effects for movie studios; it is not a movie studio in and of itself. Still, even if it was one long CG special effects reel with no plot or acting or anything else, I think I would like it better than the second half of END OF EVANGELION, which wasn't remotely the mindphuk I was led to believe it was.

Satashi Kon, why have you forsaken us Montrealers? The world premiere should be at FantAsia, just as the world premieres of PERFECT BLUE and MILLENIUM ACTRESS were held there (in 1997 and 2001 respectively). Eh, I guess we Montrealers were just spoiled to have seen those two high profile anime films first and I shouldn't expect it to happen with every one of his films.
TSUBASA RESEVOIR CHRONICLES... pseudo-CARDCAPTOR SAKURA followup
by Kiyone

The main characters are teenage versions of Shaoran Li and Sakura, with the same names, except it doesn't really have anything to do with CARDCAPTOR SAKURA other than using the same characters in different roles. Sakura is a princess of a desert country called "Clow" and her brother Touya is king, and Yukito/Yue is his court magician (no idea if they're gay lovers this time around). Touya's some kid doing excavation work, but he's friends with princess Sakura. There's also a character from the CLAMP manga XXXHolic (which I've never read), and, supposedly, it crosses over with the continuity of that series. No word on what Tomoyo's role in this continuity will be, if she appears. This page has a complete summary of the first chapter of TSUBASA RESEVOIR CHRONICLES: http://www.jupiterstar.com/

Say it with me: RUROUNI KENSHIN. Sigh. Any word on what exactly the "director's cut" has that's different? Confidential to Zone Zero: I don't *hate* Tenchi, I just don't really like it. And that's... OK. Squealing piles of magical girlfriends fighting over the nerdy passive male isn't really my bag; I prefer the sex ratio the other way [like Fushigi Yugi] since I'm female and don't really find Tenchi himself all that appealing. Just don't compare it to my mom any more, cause that kinda freaks me out! ;-P I don't like Tenchi, you don't like DBZ, we both like Kenshin. Truce? :-)
Ohh. The logistics.

So are these going to be Japanese actors? Are they going to be speaking Japanese. Are we just going to cheese out and set it in America. What about the ending. What about the other ending. This is a complete minefeild. How in the hell would they navigate it. Still, I rember asking myself these same questions about a certain Sailor Moon movie, and we all know how that didn't turn out. McCormic's prohacy of the day: There will be no Evangelion movie.

We've all gotten used to them, so what's one more. Jesus chirst, I mean you would think that the Japanese would make sure they got their English right before commiting the butchering that they do. I know if I where useing Japanese to make something look impressive, I know I'd want to make sure I got everything right.

Personally, I don't consider the Kenshin series and the OVAs the same thing at all, besides having a samurai with an 'X' on his cheek. Seriously, the OVAs were miles above the series, not just in animation but in class of character development and storyline. Sheer poetry. I saw the OVAs without even being aware of the series (popular as it was, apparently), picked my jaw off the floor, then made the mistake of watching some of the series out of curiousity (yes, subtitles. I don't do dubs). Man, it was like going from 'Jin Roh' to 'Yugi-Oh'. Painfully disappointing. From what I can tell of my 'Truth and Betrayal' Director's Cut, one of the extras was extending the scenes of Kenshin's 'last battle' against the Shogunate at the end. I don't recall much else was different. It certainly wasn't exceptional stuff to stand out from the original release. However, for folks like Pulzar, they made the cover reversible so fans can choose either the Samurai X cover or the Rurouni Kenshin cover, with different artwork on either side. ************************** And yeah, after a fashion mistranslations are to blame on both sides, since we have to tolerate so many intro songs in bad 'engrish' (cough .hack//sign cough) making their way to our stores. I give Yoko Kanno more credit because most of her recent albums have lyrics crafted as though she actually has a handle on the english language nuances in singing. I can't speak for the latin, russian, italian, french or other languages she's used. The problem was, not all the asian singers could pronounce the words correctly.

Hey kiddies. Like the guy said, the show pales im comparison. Stop fighting anime in it's purest form: The Original Soundtrack, Unedited madness. Don't watch that crap they butcher and pop on TV. Yer upset because it's labled Samurai X? Well Samurai X came out first boyo. So why don't you just say "Samurai X". Ya daft trunk monkies!

Goatkiller, Samurai X/ Kenshin OAV vs the Series

I reccommend that you give the series more of a chance. The series is far closer to the Manga for better or worse. But when the series get's to the Kyoto arc which is the highlight of the series it really takes off. There is Alotta filler in the begninning and stuff for you to get to know the characters, but once it hits the Kyoto arc, the animation improves quite a bit and the story gets much more serious. You will also see characters from the OAV return to play a major role.

You know, to each their own. I like Tenchi, and haven't seen Fushigi yet. I can't even spell the frigging name right. As for the whole Purist/Dubbie/Subbie BS... There's better things to debate, like should Michael Moore should be stripped of his oscar. Samurai X/Ruroni Kenshin... It's the same thing. Samurai X is the OAVs, Ruroni Kenshin is the TV series. Samurai X is dark and brooding, with a TON of violence. Ruroni Kenshin actually has humor and romance in it's story. I like both.
