The League trailer didn't look good to me... It'd be shame if they've ruined it... But Hulk looks like it could be the better comic book film this summer. Also X2 - liked it but I was flabbergasted at how many beautiful women there were acting in it... I didn't who to shag first? At the moment I think I'm with Kelly Hu, but it was f*cking off-putting. I just couldn't decide.

League Trailer - saw before x-men

Went to see X-2 here in London last night and was blown away. Thankfully it also erradicated any memory of seeing the The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen trailer beforehand(or just The League as voiceover man was referring to it). It seems to be hijacked as a Sean Connery vehicle, probably by a marketing department who don't know how to sell it. Being a fan of the comic, I accepted that it would have to be made as more audience frienly type film but this just looks bad. Hopefully Ill be eating my words when it comes out.

. . . 'cause while I was believing the negative press on Hulk after the Superbowl spot, the on-line trailer (well, that's where >I< saw it!) and this new one in front of X2 are really making this thing look fuckin' fantastic. For my cash, Bana *nails* the "angry" line. Good stuff and all but necessary, given how successful the TV show was. Yeah, the Hulk still looks almost self-consciously CGI, but how the hell else are ya gonna do him? Green painted body builders and/or rubber suits just won't cut it. And I did notice some nice lighting on Hulk's skin, so it may just work out, action-wise. Story-wise, still up in the air. I may not do a midnight show like for X2 (just got back; I'm a WAY happy geek!), but definitely opening weekend.

I personally can't wait for HULK, cos although I'm not 100% on the story line (like many people give a damn), the action will sure be something. As for LXG...hmm...I'm not sure what to think...I'm getting mixed vibes from this. I want it to be good, but then again, a major comic-to-film conversion has still yet to suck(although Blade 2 wasn't the greatest).

Spare a thought for me, you lucky bastards. Fuck that noise! I was SURE I'd get some bad-ass trailers to check out, but the sheer ball-tearing coolness of X-2 more than made up for it.

I still rather see gamma bomb go off at the test site, though. This laboratory stuff looks a bit too much like Norman Osborn turning into Green Goblin in Spider-Man. Sorry folks, but I had all the comic to film projects I could possible want take in last months. Hulk looks artificial as hell, he moves completely unrealistic and my whole feeling was that he did not correspond with the rest of pictures. After seeing the poor story of Daredevil and the great X2 I believe that Hulk will not be successful here in Europe, where the whole Mavel-Heroes are not as big as they are in the US. Even my favorite girl Ms. Conelly will not be able to save that one for me.

The old Incredible Hulk TV show scared the hell out of me when I was little. Everytime someone would pick a fight with "David" Banner, I would run out of the room because I knew his eyes would turn bright green, he'd bulge out of his clothes and suddenly he's Lou Ferrigno in body paint. The CGI Hulk looks pretty scary too. Anybody still complaining about how fake it looks should realize that anybody with those impossible body proportions would not seem real. But that's what the comic book Hulk looks like. His proportions are totally unrealistic but look cool in drawings.
Halle Berry is NOT catwoman

I just read that Warners is planning to pick up on the long-put off Catwoman movie but with Halle Berry replacing Michelle Pfeiffer. I mean I guess the Batman universe is totally color-blind (Two Face flipped completely from Billy Dee Williams in the first film over to Tommy Lee Jones by the third) so I guess anything is possible. Personally I'm glad she won't be back for X-Men 3 cause I never thought they got the hair right (always looked like a bad wig) for her plus Storm should have been played by a much taller and more willowy actress.

Are they still going with the idea that his dad experimented on him as a kid and that the Gamma radiation triggered the dormant crap from those experiments. Until this trailer, I thought they lost that crap, and even now the dialogue could have been explained away as metaphorical, but I think I caught a glimpse of a hypodermic needle and Bruce in a crib. In no way this movie would have worked with a person painted green! There is NO seven foot tall human being that weights approximately 1,000 of pure muscle that could have done the role! Yeah, a rubber suit could have been great! SUUUUUURE! Guess what, CGI is going to look CGI regardless. Deal with it. On my part, I am going to see this movie on opening weekend!

I was out of line calling Martin Lawrence a 'sambo', but my intention with the comment was honestly intended, if ambiguously delivered. We all hate Martin Lawrence, for whatever reason. For a lot of people it isn't just becasue he isn't funny, but the fact that with every single movie he shits into existence he sets the representation of the black race in cinema back about thirty years. Martin Lawrence IS a sambo by the very definition of ther word in that he makes his fortune reverting back to every single black stereotype that black performers have been trying to escape for the past fifty years. Watch BAMBOOZLED and you'll see that Spike Lee put the idea forward first that gangsta rap and today's black comedians are the modern minstral show. It's hardly a new opinion, but for me Martin Lawrence typifies that reversion back to black performers playing up the old stereotypes for the white man's dollar. In particular, while I was watching the trailer for NATIONAL SECURITY, after watching the tenth shot of something blowing up for no apparent reason, everytime Martin Lawrence turns to the camera and gives a look straight out of a Mantan Moreland short. I'm sure if they held the shot he'd put his hand on his nouth and say something like "Sorry, Bawss, did I's bad?" That's his shtick. Who is this guy's audience? I can only figure it must be racist whites who, like Spike said in BAMBOOZLED, feel reassured to see black people supplicate themselves for the white man's entertainment. God knows, that's how %80 of rap music is sold. I sincerely hope it's not black people who are keeping this guy in work. I'm Australian, and we're legendary for out 'cultural cringe'. That is to say that we despise seeing stereotypes about us being perpetuated, especially by one of our own. Surely the black community (outside of Spike Lee) feel the same way. So I sincerely apologise if my comment caused offense. I realise it was out of line, out of context and I should have explained myself at the time.

I can live with that.

I am worried about 'LXG' (which in itself is a little concerning as a name - wonder why they wanted the 'X' there? :/) THe addition of the all american new super spy and Tom Sawyer???? And revealing Mina's identity as a vamp, on the website - isn't that supposed to be something you figure out, and therefore be a bit of a suprise? I appreciate that it needs to be audience friendly, but this seems to be dumbed down as much as a cartoon Dumb and Dumber might be. Oh they've done that already haven't they *shrug*

We did get LXG in front of X2, but the other was some absolute CRAP movie with Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear playing Siamese twins, I shit you not. "Stuck on You," I think was the title? And I winced, because Matt can be OK, but with the exception of some nice moments in Dogma, he's not the most inspired comedic worker. Ugh. *shivers, thinking about it*

Glaring mistake in the trailer

Not to nitpick . . . well yeah, okay so it's a nitpick. Watch the trailer again. Right after they dispatch the jets to get him, a house blows up and Hulk goes flying. Later on, they blow up the same house again. This time, no hulk in the foreground. Same scene twice. Once with CG Hulk. Once without. And oh yeah, the one with CG Hulk, thr Hulk has a very long shadow and the tree next to him does not. Hell, even the house doesn't cast a shadow. You'd think the creative people would take care of this before the trailer is released. Sure you have to examine it frame by frame to see it, but it's there . . . or in the case of some shadows, I should say it's not there. Oh well, enough with the nitpicking.

There's gotta be a reasonable explanation for the house thing. Just because you're looking for mistakes (CG shadows? Pfft) doesn't mean that the filmmakers are so incompetent they don't even realize they're blowing up the same house twice. Maybe one is a dream sequence or something.

Agreed as far as LXG goes. I'm willing to give it a shot because of Norrington, but I don't really have high hopes for it or even think that I'll enjoy it that much. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who was put off by how fake Nemo's ship looked, especially when it was resurfacing, not to mention Hyde and the swirling mass of bats that formed Mina Harker. This is supposed to be an $80 million movie? Where did all the money go? Did it get washed away in Prague? I'd still be up to see it regardless of dodgy effects if I didn't fear that it may need style to save itself. We'll find out soon enough, I suppose. And the Hulk looks amazing. I've had no problem accepting the CGI in the trailers; it doesn't always look utterly jaw-dropping (how jaded we all are), but this is some of the best effects work ever done. Plus the Hulk emotes like a true thespian, which is cool.
Hulk CGI realism - REALITY CHECK
by Rupee88
May 4th, 2003
06:31:13 AM
You CGI Hulk critical people are living in a dream world. Let me state a fact: It is IMPOSSIBLE to create TOTALLY REALISTIC human type characters with CGI. It has never been done and it never will be done unless AI advances to where computers can do it on their own, and that is a whole new world. The best huamn characters so far have been in Final Fantasy and the Animatrix feature that played before Dreamcatcher. Sure, you may be able to fool the human eye and mind with one frame of a CGI human, but once he begins moving around, it will always look CGI. Even Spider-Man in his costume always looked "fake", but still very cool. The Hulk looks off the chart cool fromw what I've seen. Of course he isn't going to look totally "real"....this ain't happening in our lifetime or in our children's lifetime, so DEAL WITH IT. They will continue to get closer and closer and cooler and cooler with CGI, but it is NEVER going to look REAL!!!
Gollum vs Hulk etc
by Rupee88
May 4th, 2003
06:38:18 AM
And don't try to say that Gollum looked totally real..he didn't, and he was a fictionaly cartoony creature, not human. Once you try to do a regular human, it makes it 100x more difficult. And the Hulk is essentially a very large human with a human face. I think ILM has done a damn good job from what I've seen...I would have liked to see what Square could have done, as they raised the bar with the Animatrix short that played before Dreamcatcher. If you haven't seen it yet, you will love it when the DVD is released in June. But the Hulk looks damn good...we really are getting jaded as others have pointed out.

HULK design
by Almost Sexy
May 5th, 2003
04:05:33 AM
I was "lucky" enough to get to see both the new trailer for the Hulk and LXG in front of X2, and I was quite surprised to see that LXG looked a great deal better than I thought possible. From what I'd heard it seemed that the film-maker's intent was to jettison as much of Moore's personality and quirky originality as possible (i.e., favoring Quatermain over Ms. Murray as the leader, making her a vampire) and I'm sure a lot of the great woman-bashing lines have been removed for political reasons, but it at least looked mildly (if mindlessly) entertaining. As for the Hulk design, I think he looks somewhat cartoony, but that's not what really bothers me. When it's just his upper body in the frame, I think he looks just fine. But he's so immensely wide in proportion to his height that he just ends up looking like a spiky-haired midget covered in green paint. The scene where he's making those huge leaps across the desert (and the screen, natch), dodging 20mm cannon fire? I actually started laughing in the theatre--not cause I'm especially mean-spirited or cynical, but just cause he looked like a midget long-jump record holder. He's just too wide for his height. But Nick Nolte is just doing great work, and I can't wait to see him on the screen. The Good Thief was so awesome, everything Ocean's 11 should have been, but fell woefully short of. Nolte just seemed so relaxed in the role, but also very energized. He was just so much fun to watch. Happy Mother's Day. (Smiley face).
LXG No More, You Know

Per the trailer and 20th Century Fox, it ain't called "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" no more. Just "The League" now. But that's so lame. YOU know they're the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I know they're the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. THEY know they're the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. OK, so there's one hot gentlewoman on the crew (Mina). Did 20th think people wouldn't know that? Too many words to fit on a marquee? "The League" sounds like a baseball movie. Or a football movie. Or a TV show. So now is 20th going to lose the "LXG" logo? How cool can "L" be ? Jeez. From the people who gave you "X-2: X-Men United," two weeks before showtime, 20th Century "we can't make up our minds" Fox presents "The League." (P.S. We figured out the X-Men have X-Women, so what's with this League horseshit? Inquiring minds want to know.)
