Roger Ebert said that 60 people walked out of the Academy screen

Can you believe it???? I don't know how many members make up the nominating committee for Best Foreign Languauge Film, but for 60 people to walk out of a screening for any film just seems deplorable, especially when it is a film that is getting universal praise as one of the very best of the year. These people are the only ones who get the priviledge to vote on these films, and to not even give a major film full attention just seems ridiculous.
Lynne Ramsey set to direct The Lovely Bones

I can't think of a better director for The Lovely Bones. Ratcatcher was so controlled, beautiful, languid, and melancholy. Just the sort of mood that would work perfectly for The Lovely Bones. Godzilla raises an interesting point about removing narrator voiceover in her 2nd film. I am curious to see how she handles the narrator for The Lovely Bones. The victim has such a strong voice in the book, and most things are shown from her perspective, that I'm very curious to see how Ramsey handles this in the film...

when a reviewer uses words like this or like "zany", "madcap", "hijinks", "wacky", "wry", these are key words that really mean AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE. the action sequences in SHANGHAI are horrible. they are like dance numbers. there's no more action, adventure or fighting in jackie chan films: just dancing. the music kicks in and jackie starts doing his zany stuff. so elaborately choreographed that you feel like the film has stopped for a dance number like in a musical.*********IT'S STRANGE that with all the talent in asia and NAMerica that bruce lee never had a successor and now it looks like jackie doesn't have one either. there's not even anyone on the horizon. ********BRUCE LEE was the best, though anyone could see he was doomed to die young. he was funny in that, while many asian philosphies espouse peace, harmony, etc. he seemed to always be pushing and pushing himself to higher and higher plateaus. he was never content. never sat on his laurels. no wonder he died young. *******JACKIE's frenetic energy and acrobatics have gone stale. MAYBE THEY WERE THE LAST ACTION MOVIE STARS and all we have left are Keanu Reeves and Tom CRuise wire-CGI fu to watch.... good thing we have DVDs i guess to remember that real action stars used to exist.

that when they saw the walk on by Captain Lou Albano in the first 20 min. of the film, they basically realized there was no more point watching any more, so they walked out. the director should have put the Lou Albano cameo near the end of the film to ensure viewer attendance.

...and it is everything people are saying it is. What a great film. I hope to catch it again before it leaves the theater here. I simply can't understand people walking out on this. Its a rare treat.........

I agree with Zardoz. Ramsay is the perfect choice to direct The Lovely Bones. But unfortunately, I just read on Entertainment Weekly's website (the book section) that FilmFour's film division, the company that bought the rights, went under, and it may take this movie version down with it. Sebold's agent claims that the company is still developing the project but I haven't heard or seen any more about it. (could this be a job for aint it cool news???!!!) I shudder to think who will take over if Ramsay's version is lost. If anyone has heard any recent news, please post!
