Excellent job - I always enjoy finding out about genre fare from other countries (DEAD END, etc.). It's fun to try and track it down afterward! Too bad to see another negative review of DARKNESS, though - I was really looking forward to this. I'll still see it, but my expectations have been substantially lowered by all the bad vibes surrounding it.

Punch-Drunk Love was the only perfect film for me from last year. Every note hit right on, like when the light comes on in the phone booth when Lena answers the phone. It was just perfect. Even my dick of a friend who only watches Rock Hudson and Doris Day movies, which are great don't get me wrong, said it was the perfect little movie. And I thought the ending was very appropriate.

is outstanding, he captures interviews we would never see otherwise. I live back at home in Mexico City now, but caught the Aint It Cool habit 6 years ago when I was going to a university in North Texas, I even attended BUTT-NUMB-A-THON #2 during my Christmas break one year. I have been following Grozilla's work for several years now starting with his Cannes coverage about 4 years ago, I think. He and the other reporters from Europe provide a dimension to this site that other movie sites lack, and I love the expanded coverage they give, even if the English is not perfect. How many of us speak perfect French, Italian, German, or the language of Norway? How many of us can speak those languages even very poorly? All I know is that MANY of the films they talk about I would NEVER even hear about otherwise..... so keep up the great work Grozilla, and the rest of you. We may not say it too often, but we love you for trying.
Great lini interview with Nakata......

Both his and the interviewers takes on the American raping of foreign film were spot on. The most ironic part is when Hideo Nakata expressed his desire for American filmmakers to produce films that expressed American Sensiblities. I'd say the shit films we put out as a whole is a perfect expression of our culture and American sensibilities. All gloss and show, form over content, and a creative vaccuum, at least at the executive level. A film renaissance is taking place all over the world, us Americans are jsut gonna have to wait our turn. Also, I can't fricking believe they are going to remake Dark Waters! Just release it as is. The film is beautiful. And further more to have Hideo Nakata direct a remake of his own film? Just release the damn thing with subs and be done with it. This whole business of remaking films so some phukking dimwit trailer fuk non reading asshole can 'watch' the film in english is down right infuriating. And what really pisses me off, is financially speaking, it makes sense. My fellow American average movie goer are a bunch of dipshits. End rant. M

American Films

As a limey I'd love to be able to agree and say that current huge Hollywood hits encapsulate the America of today, but from an outsiders perpective, you've still got it. Films like LA Confidential, Usual Suspects, Narc and Tarantino and John Dahl films all seem to reflect, to an outsider, an American way of life, more so than the Super Hero films (which I like incidentally.) Its just that the bigger films get more attention. Kind of like the way the London of Four Weddings and Notting Hill doesn't exist, but the Edinburgh of Trainspotting and the Manchester of 24 Hour Party People does. He's right about the remakes though. And "the 7 Magnificents" - Love it.

I loved Punch Drunk Love - it was beautifully shot, amazingly coloured and Adam Sandler exceeded all my expectations. However, I have one question. What the hell is it with Emily Watson? Suddenly you can't turn around without her playing the love interest. Is she THAT good an actress? Is she THAT attractive? Seriously, inquiring minds want to know.
