Hmmm... now there's a good idea -- Imax 3D! Can't wait to see how much fun Robert has with that camera, and I hope he's in the mood for more afterwards. This could be really something, and spectacularly cool. Fingers crossed, and hats off!

...even that crappy educational movie about dinosaurs. Yes, the "plot" and the acting sucked, but when a T-rex that really is 60ft tall comes out of the screen at you... Well let's just say I wasn't on the edge of my seat. This new 3D technology kicks ass. Now, I thought Spy Kids was an entertaining surprise, but 2, for all the Harryhausen love, was a random mess. Still, I can't wait to see what someone with even a rudimentary feeling for story and a decent budget can do with this technology.

Face it, you'd see anything 3-D just for shits and giggles. This smacks of desperation from Rodriguez. His Spy Kids franchise sucks donkey balls and now he needs a gimmick to get them back in seats. If Lucas did this you'd all demand his head on a stick and complain how he's making up for narrative suckdom with a cheap-ass technological piece of arse-pie.

Cos I thought they still couldn't do full length features cos of the size of the filmstock, or am I behind the times. Anyway, I've only seen one IMAX in Vegas, the crappy dinasoar on. It sucked serious ass, but the little animation at the start had me ducking out of the way.

Has anyone read the Khan series recently out? Khan's people were killed in the Bopal disaster, and nobody cared enough to say they were sorry. He was a teenage when this happens, and it sets him on his course. I'd like to see a film with a sympathetic Khan; he always was and will be the greatest Star Trek villain. A rematch between him and Shatner really would be interesting!

i dont really understand how it works with using HD for IMAX. HD is basically about 2K resolution, as I belive. Which is close enough to 35mm, more or less, to not cause a problem. But IMAX is about the equivalent of double-70mm, isn't it? Surely that's pushing the quality barrier? also, is there any websites with more info on the HD 3D camera?

I grew up in the 80s, which in my opinion, was the greatest decade to be a kid in. On television, you had He-Man, Inspector Gadget, ALF, Fraggle Rock. You had G.I. Joes and Transformers (which weren't my thing, but were still cool). You had the 80s fantasy film. You had some of the coolest family pictures imaginable in The Goonies, The Dark Crystal, Willow, Labyrinth, Masters of the Universe (I'm a huge He-Man geek), and The Neverending Story. When I first saw Spy Kids, I fell in love with it because it brought me back to my own childhood. Sure, it wasn't as good as Goonies, but this felt like a movie that kids could treasure forever the way I treasure the adventure of Mikey and Mouth and Data and Chunk... and of course, One-Eyed Willy. Spy Kids 1 was for kids, about kids, and in celebration of kids. There wasn't any gratuitous swearing or blatantly adult jokes for the adults. It was a kid's movie, and because it was good, wholesome fun, parents could enjoy it as well. Then along came Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams. And it was kind of like watching Toy Story 2, and being amazed at how they had improved upon the original. Every little, minor quibble about Spy Kids 1 was mended for no. 2. The second time around, the adventure got bigger. The pacing is wonderful and the story great fun. Buscemi gives one of his very best performances, combining his trademark creepiness with a loveable loneliness. Alexa Vega just sinks into her role and appears to be having a blast from the opening frame. Spy Kids 2, amazingly, was even more reminiscent of my experiences with both The Goonies and Masters of the Universe. And all the while, it continued to uphold the family values that made the original so sweetly touching. Plus, Rodriguez produced, wrote, directed, photographed, edited, and co-scored the picture. And he was also the chief production designer. Oh, and if you check IMDB, he's credited as a sound effects editor and a visual effects supervisor, as well. Anyhow, I can't wait for Spy Kids 3 simply because I love the first two. But the fact that Rodriguez is doing this in 3-D, well, it just makes me giddy.
But is it good 3-D?

I have been waiting for some motherfucker to revive this great tradition. They blew it with Jurassic Park part 3 and Scream part 3 but finally somebody knows what the fuck they're doing. My question though is - how good is this 3-D going to be? Is this the technological innovation we need to make it work in the days of the megaplex? The 3-D of HOUSE OF WAX and FRIDAY THE 13TH 3-D and JAWS 3-D is the monochromatic kind with the blue lenses. It requires a silver screen, a special 3-D projector lens and an expert projectionist who knows how to keep it aligned exactly right. Megaplexes do not have access to any of these things (although if you need ads for Spiderman toothbrushes and the Wild Thornberries popcorn deal, they can hook you up). That's why with the last major 3-D movie FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE they had to resort to crappy red and blue "Freddyvision" for one sequence instead of a whole feature of glorious Viewmaster style layers. So what is this new method? Does it look good? Or is it more Freddyvision?

This might work if they made fun of the whole 3D flick experience. Ala' Jaws 3D, , Forbidden Planet, House Of Wax etc. It's not going to look any better than Space Hunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone did back in 1983. All 3D movies suck balls and look like crap. Ever see the Rhino DVD copy of The Bubble? It wanks. So have a fake rubbery shark jump out of the damn screen every 11 minutes. As for a villian? COUNT FLOYD. Get some old SCTV people on this ride for shits and giggles. Ohhhh...that's scaryyyyyy kids !

Hey, lets put junior spies in a setting that'll never happen, with villians that are pure fantasy, and none of the people die because it's so fricking kid-friendly. I bet Cody Banks will be the same thing, it'll have a dumb villian, a dumb plot, and Frankie Muniz is a little fag as a spy.

Indeed. "Where there is anger, there is...rage. Where there is rage, there is...lots of bad words and needless posts." I forget the rest of Yoda's quote. Rodriguez rules. Missed SK2, but will rent it one lazy weeknight when the war's not on. 3D? OK, I can go there. Goggles and stuff. Better not use this as an excuse to raise the cost of tickets! Next subject?

the latest issue has an article on SK 1&2. the first one was OK (i thought the musical # with the eyeballs and thumb-thumbs was eerie), and tho i haven't seen 2, it comes out tuesday on DVD, and it's got STEVE FUCKIN' BUSCHEMI! no way i'm gonna miss one of his flicks (he was the ONLY good thing about armageddon). and if you take a good look at ANTONIO's glasses in the picture, they appear to be the shutter type.

I'm a big fan of 3D movies, so I'm glad to see Rodriguez use it in Spy Kids - Game over. The whole thing is NOT in 3D, I'm told - just certain scenes. It likely will work pretty well, because it is integrated with the CGI animation, not just actors in 3D. Just for the record, any "3D" CGI animation can be converted to kick ass 3D "Stereoscopic" viewing by generation of a second "eye view". That's how Shrek was done for the theme parks.Any movie like "NEMO", "DELGO" or MONSTERS INC. can be shown in GLASSES type 3D if the studios choose. If Spy Kids 3D is a hit, don't be surprised to see a lot of 3D re-issues of these animated flicks. Better technology and low cost plastic glasses are coming out for theaters and DVD 3D releases and even internet streaming.
