Freaks & Geeks was quite possibly the best written show I have ever seen on television. It was a wonderful gem and an oasis in a sea of commonality, banality and just plain crap. Television has seen few masterpieces, this show was one of 'em. If you were one of the smart, hip folks n-da-know who loved the show then sign the petition. And if you are a fan of brilliant, witty writing, spot on acting, and 8th grade leisure suits then sign it and tell a friend.

you'd think there'd be people with lots of money who just want good tv shows, and then all this ratings shit wouldn't matter. i mean, that's how independent filmmaking sort of works, right?

the truly most depressing cancellation of all time was Brimstone --> fucking fox execs moved it to fridays nights to make room for reality TV. Though only 13 eps it is the only show that I could ever consider a challenge to buffy's "best show of all time" status. --> smite

People who would shit on this show in the talkbacks is a sad thing. I have a few episodes on tape (as well as undeclared... I saw it's cancellation coming) and the few eps I have are brilliant. My self and all my friends love the show and If it could go to DVD I know 5 people alone who would buy it...not just borrow it... People should sign this petition just to support Judd Apatow alone. A guy who makes worthwhile (while maybe not popular) Telelvision....
Everyone should forward this petition to everyone they know. I

What the hell could the problem be with the music? With the exception of Michael Jackson, which 80's artists are arrogant enough to charge top dollar for their music? Styx and Joan Jett should consider it good advertising for their "best of" albums, or something. The theme song alone reminded me that Joan Jett made some pretty decent music. Freaks and Geeks was one of the best-written shows ever televised. Say what you want, but most television feels written, and is populated with impossibly plastic actors. Freaks and Geeks was first rate in every respect. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that Undeclared was made by the same people until after it was cancelled.

I just watched the Sports Night DVD set, and it brought the all the disappointment of that show's demise back! It's Sorkin's fault too. Too in love with his one-sided political show soap box to keep a fun, fresh, entertaining show like Sports Night on the air. Of course it got a full two seasons, while Freaks and Geeks only got...was that even on for half a year? I'm telling you, it'll hurt to watch it.

Anything Judd Apatow does for television is gold. The passing of Freaks and Geeks was somewhat compensated by the presence of Undeclared, which was by far the funniest half hour of television in 01-02. Apatow and co need to get a show going on HBO or some network that has faith in their abilities to bring in a consistently funny and consistently smart show and give them time to let the thing catch on. Knowing that there was quality comedy writing coming every week was a great feeling. It's kind of how I feel about Andy Richter Controls the Universe, but after pushing it hardcore this season and airing it two times a week for a bit, Fox seems to have lost faith in that little gem - despite how well-done it is. Back to Apatow though - where's the Heavyweights DVD? I don't know if there's a line out there that always gets me as much as Ben Stiller saying "Lunch is cancelled today due to lack of hustle. Deal with it." over the PA.

I mean Brimstone was damn cool and Nowhere Man was pretty cool as well I agree (and I'd buy both on DVD for sure) but I truly do think that American Gothic is likely the best thing I've ever seen come out of American dramatic television, for both overall quality and consistency. I loved it, it's audience loved it, hell even the critics loved it, so the network said, "hey, I know, let's cancel it after only one season. We won't even show the final episodes on our network, that'll teach them for watching!" or something equally stupid. So where's my American Gothic DVD set damn it! ****************************** ****************************** ************** Other shows I'd love to see on DVD: Space -Above & Beyond, which started out a bit weak admittedly, but after a few episodes soon found it's feet and turned into a really great show, and the final handful of episodes especially before the end of it's first and only season were nothing short of superb; and Briscoe County Jnr, which was just damn good fun.

do any of you ever get laid?? Or do you spend all your Friday and Saturday nights at the mall playing Magic?? You all seem like the most lame people on the planet?? Don't you have something better to do than sit here arguing whether or not Ben Affleck is the perfect actor to play some stupid comic book character in a movie?? As though its the most important thing ever?? Shit, I wish i didn't just move out here to work and make something out of myself. Otherwise I could just sit home in my parents house all day arguing back and forth like a loser.

Peter Horton as Ezekiel Stone with John Glover as The Devil. I could take that show forever, but Fox puts it on their Friday Night Death Trap. Aside from "THE X-FILES", every show they put on Friday nights DIES! "Millennium" only survived for so long because of Chris Carter having some stroke because of "THE X-FILES". Fox throws "Brimstone" on Friday nights, it dies. They throw "Firefly" there, it dies. They throw "SLIDERS" on Friday nights, THEN early Sunday evening, and it DIES (at least SciFi Channel was there to save it). Many more prime examples, but none off the top of my head. No Fox show lasts long on Friday nights. I tried to catch every episode of "Brimstone", and was glad when SciFi picked up the show, but they only re-ran the existing episode. I sent in two letters to whomever it was as part of a writing campaign to get the show picked up for more episodes by SciFi. Also, "The Job" was a depressing cancellation, but ABC did it to themselves. It was guessing game as to when they were airing it. "Is on this week? It was on last week, but not the two weeks before." Denis Leary is my favorite comedian (Andrew Dice Clay would be second), and I could've taken "The Job" twice on a nightly basis. It was like a comedic "NYPD Blue" or what not. It was fresh & original, but ABC fucked us & themselves over with its crappy handling of the show. I doubt anyone could handle a show worse. Never knew when it was gonna be on from one week to the next. Also, a few years ago, I was REALLY getting into "Renegade" when it went off the air, but I never got to see a final episode or anything. If anyone knows what happened in that episode (or if it was simply cancelled), could you email me? I'd highly appreciate it, thanks! -NJM Visit Michalak.Org!

Freaks and Geeks on DVD? Sign a petition? Please. I like this site for movie info, but hearing all these people whine about this nonsense is disturbing. There's a reason why it was cancelled. The only people who watched it were the Freaks and Geeks who are upset about this news and looking for the petition to sign.

American Gothic was also a great show that did not get a well deserved long run. Gary Cole's performance was fantastic (probably one of the most underutilized super talents in Hollywood). His evil sheriff was a great tv villain. I'd love to see it come to DVD too along with Freaks & Geeks. Is Sean Cassidy ever going to get another shot at creating and developing a show? I'll admit he really surprised me with the quality of American Gothic.

it doesn't ONLY have to do with the show being good or not, it also has to do with how the studio marketed it and the time slot in which it was aired... saturday night i believe... NO show would do well on saturday night.
