Why no subtitle for the Bebop film?

THE MOVIE makes me think of the horribly edited and dubbed Robotech:The Movie(i.e. Megazone 23 with bits of Southern Cross thrown in) that Cannon attempted to put out back in the 80's. I know the Bebop film isn't based on another anime source, but give credit where it's due.

I'm assuming you meant, why isn't there a subtitle to the title of the movie, and not, why aren't they doing a japanese dialogue w/ subtitled release of the film. Granted, CB: The Movie, doesn't sound as sexy as KOHD, but many people will see Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and be just as jazzed up to see it. I personally saw this movie a few times through fansubs and internet downloads, and it is FANTASTIC! I just hope it comes tom Milwaukee and I don't have to take a trip to see it down in Chicago. Even though I will if i have to. Kudos to Columbia for keeping the music and getting the original dub cast to do the dubbing for the US release. I can't wait. Father Geek, maybe you could get some info on when a website, trailers, posters, and expanded release dates/cities will be forthcoming. That would be spectacular. Thanks again for your anime posts. I'm not a geek, but I appreciate all the work you do. It's a one-stop shop for me. Nice. Later.

American voice dubbers are atrocious. I cant even watch Cowboy Bebop on the toon channel. The japanese take so much more pride and put so much more effort into their voice work it makes our efforts look pathetic. Except for Mark Hamil...hes good.*****I have seen the Bebop movie in its original Japanese and you couldnt pay me to sit throught the american version.

If Columbia is delaying the Cowboy Bebop movie until April, then they should just do a wide release, and not just two cities. If CB gets into a ton of theaters, Im betting that it would surpass all other anime movies that have been released in theaters. nuff said. And thanks again to Father Geek. Its nice to see the site do something other than LOTR info.

Just because not many poeple post does not mean it isnt as important as the top news storys or other columns on AICN. Im so tired of haveing to read ignorant posts by pimple faced teenage geeks who think that their pathetic opinions are the only ones that count. These poeple need to broaden their horizons and stop being so pig headed. Theres more out there than just american moives.

I was lucky enough to see a screening of the Bebop movie in the theater a few months ago. Its real good. Its basically a 2 hour high quality episode. The dub is the same quality as the DVD's, which I actually like better. The movie is not the best anime movie ever and it could have been, its just a regular bebop episode thats 2 hours long instead of 25 minutes. Its worth seeing for the Spikes bad ass fight sequence and the kick ass dog fight towards the end.
thanks crozz

The anime column tends to stay free of the same idiotic tbers and their stubborn comments. Thanks again to Father Geek for doing this column every week. Is a breath of fresh air among a sea of stubborness.

LOTR is only three books/movies with a possible movie prequel in the hobbit. After 2003 LOTR will be finished and then what? Anime is a whole genre, not just a couple books, and will be going strong long after LOTR is gone. Get a clue! ANIME IS NOT INSIGNIFICANT AN D WILL LAST A LOT LONGER THAN LOTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dubs and Subs

I have to admit, if I have my choice, I'll watch an anime in subbed. I don't mind the "reading" that so many people are deathly afraid of (probably nobody in this post) such as Joe Six-Pack and what-not. But, the Cowboy Bebop dubs really are a cut above. Spirited Away was also a pretty good translation with decent voice acting. I've watched my Bebop DVDs in both Japanese and Dubbed English and I like them both, probably leaning towards the Dubbed version. I still can't get over Jet's voice and his saying "Spike-a Schpiegellll!" Anyways, Here's hoping that Columbia does a decent job in this release. I went down to Chicago to see Metropolis, Escaflowne and Spirited Away (subbed on a digital screen), but hopefully I can just walk down the street to see CB-the movie. Every time I go to the Landmark theater down the street, I bug the manager there and tell him to keep his eye out for the release. Here's to hoping. Later.

Warriors of the Wind is the bastard dub cut of Miyazaki's Nausicaa. Disney/Buena Vista has the rights to it, and we might we a release at some point, but given the time they've been sitting on Laputa: Castle in the Sky, I'd not hold by breath. Given the offence that Nausicaa's creators took at Warriors of the Wind, I think we've seen the last of it, but Anchor Bay Entertainment was threatening to release it on DVD a few years ago. (And yes, she is wearing pants)

Sadly all the kiddy pocket monster card catching crap has ruined the publics idea of anime. Poo. At any rate, glad to see this column still going on here. Cowboy Bebop the movie, wow. I urge everyone to go get the $9 dvd special of this on ebay. Awesome. Its about time we get more theatrical anime releases here...only ones I saw theatrically last year were Metropolis and Spirited Away.
Thanks

man oh man, i just saw this film, the uncut version and jesus they weren't bullshiting. it's pretty much a fun, excessively violent action romp, and the characters are quite likable but that porn stuff comes out of left field and is like just there, but what do you expect from a show with sex robots running around (but they aren't a main focus) do yourself a favor and check out the edited version for straight anime action, and if you feel like squirming uncomfortably check out the hardcore ver. (harder than almost live porn.) sheesh. - 81666
