I used to watch this show but now I don't. Scrubs is fucking hilarious, watch it you ER freaks. And always remember, the motherfucking QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE rock the world. "What do ya take me for...a cunt?"...a quote from Gangster No. 1, a movie that rocks almost as much as QUEENS OF THE motherfucking STONE AGE!

Laying off Nurses, Wait a minute.

Okay this show lost a serious misplot point. Laying off nurses? In this health care environment (Real World), they would most likely lay off a doctor before one (Much less three) nurses. Nurses now make more than doctors/Hour in most hospitals. They are in such high demand, hospitals tend to pay for education if you promise to serve for them for a year.

...never miss a trick when it comes to being ludicrous. The truth is they would never "lay off nurses" to pay for security because they'd damn well have beefed up security YEARS ago after the first time someone was attacked in the hospital and they got their asses sued off for not providing ANY security... But, "It's only tv..."

I'm kidding. I don't work in that profession and hence I know nothing about how believable the firing of nurses instead of doctors is. But are any nurses we know getting pink slips? Halle lost all that weight, you can't send her away now! I wouldn't mind cutting loose some of those asshole receptoinists though.

I could talk about this subject for hours. A lot of people on these ER talkbalks say "this show used to be good and now it sucks" but not many people, when they say that, back it up with EVIDENCE. Well I've got all kinds of evidence. Right now I work second shift which gives me the opportunity to watch ER two times every day on TNT. And I've been doing this for about a solid year. This has given me the chance to see every episode about three times. Now let's say I tried to make a graph of the relationship between how much I like ER and which season they're currently showing on TNT. The graph would tell you that earlier, when Doug Ross was in the house, ER was good. Post-Ross, things went downhill. Oh sure, there are times when things picked back up. For instance, Lucy Knight and Carter getting stabbed was big. Carter's drug addiction was great. In fact, John Carter is my favorite character on TV period (not that I watch too much TV outside of ER). I think Noah Wyle is awesome. Ok back to my main point here. I don't think ER went downhill after Clooney left *because* Clooney left (although I liked Clooney almost as much as I like Wyle), I just think both things happened at about the same time. This show used to be about the patients. There used to be so many interesting stories about the patients. Most times the paitents stories were more interesting than the doctors. Mark Greene was a big loss to the show. So was Benton. In fact I think maybe Benton's been the biggest loss so far. I never would have believed that before it happened but now I think I miss him the most. And who do they have now? Weaver is still very interesting. So are Romano and I think Pratt is going to end up being good too. (Those who say Pratt is a replacement for Benton are mistaken. He's very differently. Someone else pointed out that he doesn't try to hide his arrogance like Benton did sometimes, which I think explains the difference between them well.) Will Abby ever be Carol Hathaway? No. She's the original Abby. Well Kovac ever be Mark Greene? Not even close. What the hell was up with the ending of last week's episode? Abby jumping in a lake naked? What the hell was that? So maybe I've jumped all over the place with this post but since I'm prevented from even breaking my thought into seperate paragraphs, what's the point of even trying for coherence? Fuck me up my stupid ass.
Was anyone else as bored as I was?

I knew they weren't going to hurt Chen. Can't have a Lucy/Carter redux. Abby's brother was excruciatingly boring. I'm tired of the in-ER hookups. Is there nothing about dating your superiors? I miss the old days. Seriously beginning to be in the "ER has jumped the shark" camp. *sigh* And I love that show.

I definitely agree with the poster who said they'd have had metal detectors years ago after the stabbings. And let's not forget about Mark having the stuffing pounded out of him in the bathroom. My favorite part of the episode was Carter laughing at Romano after he said Carter left them short-handed.
Apparently, ER's producers have never seen metal detectors i

It's not enough to install them in the doors. You have to station AT LEAST one guard next to them to operate it and confiscate any material. And six metal detectors, one at each door way, means AT LEAST six full time guards (and more likely TWELVE). Furthermore, once the detector goes off, the guard often has to take a handheld detector to the person who set it off to see if they can narrow down where the metal is located (or whether it is a concealed weapon). Finally, the guards will have to search every individual's bags, purses, etc., for weapons. So the idea that "yay, everything is solved, Carter got metal detectors" is a completely false one.

...to the dialogue in the show. When Weaver was complaining about how much metal detectors cost, she also complained that they didn't have the money to properly man them. And for the record, ER is still a great show, always doing something interesting with main characters and patients. It isn't exactly the same as it was eight years ago. The show has evolved. A show has to do that, otherwise it stagnates.

I actually liked this episode. It reminded me of the jammed-to-overflowing with storylines episodes that they used to do all the time during the series' heyday.

Nurse Layoffs

I think the whole nurse layoff thing is a plot device to create conflict between Abby and Carter. It creates a fun little stituation because if he doesn't lay her off, the nurses who get the can are surely going to accuse him of bias because of their relationship, and have good grounds to sue. On the other hand, if he names Abby as one of the ones to get the axe, then it is going to piss her off at best and possibly knock her completely off the wagon. It is being set up as a no-win situation for him. Notice how he steered a bit clear of Abby at the end of the ep. He is fsck'd and he knows it. Fun stuff.
Abby's not a senior nurse

Kerri said he had to pick 3 senior nurses and I don't think Abby is one. Unless I'm mistaken. I'm still trying to figure out how she switched from OB nurse to ER nurse so smoothly. If anything, people like Haleh, Chuny, Connie, Malik, etc., would get the boot before her.

"I thought Chen wouldn't be allowed to date him." She wouldn't. And she would know better. But this is Yet Another Example of the ludicrous writing on the show. If I didn't like the actors and the skill they bring to playing these rediculous parts, I'd stop watching.
Medical clarification.....

Alrighty everyone.....I like to pick ER apart for technical problems just like the next person. I feel compelled to respond to a couple coments....I just graduated from residency....so here we go. 1. A hospital would absolutely fire a nurse before a doctor. Here's why....most doctors are not employed by hospitals. If they are (in the case of ER) they wouldn't fire them because of how the insurance system works. Insurance companies dish out money for physcian services and for facilities (hospital stuff: nurses, equipment, drugs, etc). If you were in a budget crunch, why would you cut your revenue? 2. Chen vs Pratt. To be honest, there are no rules in real life stating that attendings(chen) can't date residents/interns (Pratt). It may be looked down upon, and at specific hospitals, rules may exist, but overall there is no regulation. Remember, most of these individuals by this point in their training are in their late 20's or early 30's. They're all grown up and can make their own decisions.
