I don't want to see Venom or the Shocker attacking Spidey, then hearing DMX or Travis from Blink 182's voice coming from their mouths, respectively...LOL. But if they can disguise their voices to the point where it's unrecognizable, it might be decent.

Since those are the only people dumb enough to watch the trendy garbage channel known as MTV. "Pop" stars as villians? I'm sure there's gonna be a "fresh hip" soundtrack to go along with the tv show.

Good actor, hadn't thought of him as Ock. I was leaning towards Vincent d'Onofrio, but perhaps a less "visible" actor than D'Onofrio would be good. The fact that he's foreign could contribute towards making Ock more beleivable, perhaps. If we saw a name actor like D'Onferio as Ock, we would think "D'Onofrio", not "Ock". Skaarsgard could surmount this proablem. Barron out.

Big Spider-Man fan here, currently working my way through those great "Essential" b&w reprints from the Ditko era....my era. My son, on the other hand is an "Ultimate" Spider-Man fan. I read one of those the other day...Electro. What gives ? Where's the cool green and yellow costume with the lightning bolt mask ? He's this bald guy now ? That alone is enough to make me disregard "Ultmate" Spidey. What next ? Along with Mysterio, Electro was the best dressed villain in the business. As for MTV wanting rock/pop stars to voice the villains....yeah, right ! Nothing will date your series quicker than having a fly-by-night, blink and you'll miss him, five minute wonder, here today, remnant bin tomorrow pop star doing voices. Nobody will care. Concentrate on getting quality people in to do the job, like the animated series of a few years ago, when the got the likes of Ed Asner as J Jonah Jameson.

The majority of voice work on the new He-Man cartoon is really bad. Very high pitched and squeaky and a Keanu-esque Prince Adam. It's sad. I hope they at least bring back the old cartoon and show it too.

I know people have mentioned Sam Neil, but I think that he is too quiet and understated an actor for a loud, bombastic villain like Ock. Neil was great in the first Jurrassic movie, really felt he was a paleontologist (I KNOW anthropologists and paleontologists, they are like that, sort of a cross between outdoorsmen and professor geeks). I don't buy Neil as Ock. And I DID find Dafoe somewhat distracting as the Goblin. He was good, but when I saw him, I saw Dafoe as often as the Goblin. Skaarsgaard is a very good, very experienced actor. You don't need names for the villains: you have Kirsten Dunst and Macguiore as your star power to draw peopl;e: get cool actors like Skaarsgaard to play villains.

Like I didn't see that coming. We went through it with the first film, now we're getting it again. You'll probably hear a dozen names before they finally cast the part. Oh well, maybe someone will get wind of this and approach Stellan after all. I really doubt they could do better.

I'm gettin' really pissed off at all of these rumors. I predict that this guy's agent is going to shoot this one down a week from now by saying something like "What the hell are you talking about?". The only reason Skarsgaard is being mentioned is that he sort of looks like Octavius and he can sound German.

but for the past several years, I've always thought Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, The Frighteners) would be a great Doc Ock. I've ranted about it for a long time, and I know I'm not alone on this one. Sure, he may not look exactly like Doc Ock does, but come on, the only person who does is Elton John! Combs is a great actor that needs work (it was really sad to see him in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) and playing Doc Ock would be a breeze for him. Also, Ali Larter for Black Cat! (check her out in the leather jumpsuit in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes back, then disagree with me). As for this MTV spiderman...who's voicing spidey? this is the first I've heard of this. Since it is MTV, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Freddy Prinze Jr. (shudder). Rob Zombie voicing The Lizard? Cool. I have know clue who Eve is, I don't listen to rap.

Why not have Master P voice JJJ? Fuck me sideways with a pointed candy cane, this is just plain stupid. Well, except for Lisa Loeb being Mary Jane because she's just cool as shit and has the right voice for it. Talk about the exception to the rule, though. By the way, shouldn't this be in coax? Anywho, I'd love to see Combs play a major superhero baddie, but I think he'd be a perfect Scarecrow in a Batman film. Right build and look for him. Mix Herbert West and Agent Dammers and you've got the part down. Doc Oc should be... Bruce Campbell! Just kidding, Bruce should be Superman. Doc should be played by a fat Jim Carrey. Or it could just be his haircut from Dumb and Dumber that makes me think so. Actually, I think Doc Oc should be played by an unknown, but that's just me. If they get someone as strong as Dafoe, they'll be on the right path. (You have to give a guy credit that can act through a suit of armor like that.)

I thought for sure you were pulling my leg on that. After reading it, I still can't believe it. That is seriously bizarre. With Burton directing no less. Too bad Elfman isn't composing. It sounds like they want to avoid any of that Schumacher crap and stick to the darker tone of the first film. How they can do that when its a MUSICAL I'm not sure. However, I always thought West Side Story was one of the biggest comedies of all time. They really have their work cut for them. I'm sure they realize this has the potential to be one of the most ridiculed laughable shows in history. If they pulled it off it would be the work of genius. I'm curious to see what Burton will dream up. It's bound to be different.

MTV has a great track record for animation, their problem is when they do get something good they panic and screw it up, and end up ditching it in favor of some "Battle of the Road Rules Has-Beens" or some shit. Liquid Television, early Beavis & Butt-Head, Daria, Aeon Flux, Oddities, Downtown, plus their support of early John K-era Ren & Stimpy when Nickelodeon shit canned him (worst corporate decision EVER.) ***As for "pop stars" voicing Spider-Man's villains, granted, it's a crapshoot, but to me it sure beats hearing the same ol' hired gun voice actors they rope in for every animated supervillain. ***The person who said Vincent D'Onofrio would be too recognizable.... ask John and Jane Q. Moviegoer who Vincent D'Onofrio is, or ask them to point him out in a lineup. Bet they couldn't.

So abotu spider-man 2, will they use bits and peices of stan lee's original script (you know the one they dropped like a bad habit) or will they start frest. Obviously there are two things that will come from his script, Doc Oct and Spidey himself. Personally I think they should go for venom, but if this one works out we can look forward to spider man 3 with with him in it,....now wouldnt that kick it up if we had a movie were spider finds that moon stone and uses the black suit for 45 minutes of the flick? And what's the deal with Dunst saying that spider-man will have another love interest rather than her character, seeing as spidey and mary jane get married that doesn't make much since,....but owell netheir did the organic web (which i liked emnensly)! AS for the cartoon, im looking forward to see how they do on that one! I have high hopes, aslong as they promise to get red man and method man to do some voices, maybe red could be james jamenson. But more or less they have to get DMX to do the voice of VENOM, and eminem to do the voice of ROBIN, o wait maybe that was a different hero and universe?!?!?! >:) DUCK PS: come on you can see eminem as ROBIN too, he b*^ches enough!

Who is the target audience supposed to be for this thing? I doubt its the 15-25 year old male set when you consider: 1. a show that will mostly play in large cities; 2. actually going to the theater to see a musical (shudder); 3. and most important, a probable ticket price of about $100.00 (comparable to shows like "The Lion King"). Also, according to the press reports, this will be a dark brooding musical, so cross out the family fare crowd. This leaves the Manhattanite-Village Voice-artsy crowd, which probably wouldn't be caught dead near something called "Batman: The Musical". Which leaves one asking, why wouldn't Tim Burton just direct a new Batman feature film and spare himself the headaches? I can already hear the warbling duets between Batman and Robin.
Voice actors and musicals

The Batman musical is even funnier when I remember the sendup they did of a Batman musical on "Batman Beyond." Probably where the idea came from. As for voice actors, I don't know why everyone is getting so bent out of shape. Most people don't recognize voice actors anyway if they're doing a halfway decent job. How many people flash on Flea when they hear Donny on "Wild Thornberries?" Heck, how many people listening to the Joker on the animated Batman immediately think of Luke Skywalker? Wait and see what happens.

This reminds me of the off-Broadway musical based on the "Planet of the Apes" series ("Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off") from the Simpsons, so very long ago. "You've been offered the role of the human, Troy!" Didn't the musical version of "Carrie" close after one week?
