This was already done on the stage in Los Angeles a while back. They did the exact same thing. They did a bunch of shows from The Phacts of Life and a few from Chip'd. I guess I hope this show does well so they get some recognition.(I can't remember the name of the comedy troop)

Thats what David Bianiculla of the N.Y. Daily News said. I saw the commercial and thought it was hysterical. Now that I think about it I was laughing at the idea, not the jokes. But who knows. This reviewer likes most of the stuff I like (thinks Buffy is best show on TV for instance) but sometimes reviewers can get snobby. He is saying it could have been such a great show if played straight, but then I though if it was, wouldnt it be EXACTLY the same as the original show only with other actors?

I WAS alive during the original runs of MOST of these shows; I watched most of them as a kid, and it still looks awful. You just can't parody comedy, especially if the targets were (reasonably) funny to begin with. That's what it comes down to.
Sure you can parody comedy...

Take the Brady Bunch flicks (both reasonably funny) or the great later SNL skit with the Brady Bunch/Patridge Family battle of the bands. This could work if handled in an SCTV sort of way. For instance, SCTV tackled Different Strokes during the Zontar episode, and pretty much hit it on the money without going outside the boundaries of the writing of the original show. Seems to me that the omedy will be born out of the caricaturing of the mannerisms and vocal inflections of the original performers. The only question is whether the concept could hold up for more than a couple of weeks..

Jeezus, Hollywood gets more fucking desperate every year and just keeps troweling out worse and worse shit because of their panic. The ratio of crap that has to be sorted out to find the actual gems gets more burdensome for the average viewer. At least it leaves me more time for reading.

... but I think this has potential, at least for the short term. Don't see it lasting more than a dozen or so episodes. But this is not the least original idea - look at any show jumping on a fad bandwagon. This is an idea that needs good execution - the strength isn't going to be in the premise, but how they pull it off. It could potentially be horrid, but the don't have the many of the safe means of parody - they are "stuck" with the original script, and it'll be up to the performers to make it entertaining (we all know an original "Facts of Life" script isn't a laugh fest). "The Brady Bunch" movie worked because they altered it, made them part of the 90s, but still stuck in the 70s. They can't do that in this case. The difficulties are more subtle than you all seem to realize. Like I said, it may be the largest bomb in the end, but it is a gutsy attempt.
Well this sounds very dumb, but maybe that's the point

And I guess it's really not fair to spit on it before I watch it. That said, they're reenacting episodes of TV shows I never watched, and would never want to watch if given the chance. The idea sounds desperate and crazy in a way that seems like it might just NOT work. Because of the titles they're parodying(god, Saved by the Bell, parodying that is so easy and so old its sad), it seems like they're guaranteed a limited audience already. And if they went for shows everyone's seen and loved, it would be even harder. Won't it be embarassing to watch nobodies trying to recreate the best moments of old TV characters that belong to other actors? I mean, you're not going to do Archie Bunker better than Carol O'Connor, or Lucy Ricardo better than Lucille Ball. They MADE those parts. Even parodying the and the shows characters seems lame because its been done and the characters themselves were already parodies. They also had heart, which is hard to get when you're just trying to squeeze life and laughs out of leftovers. You could make fun of Shatner in Start Trek, but who the hell hasn't? Again, I just don't see where the appeal lies here, it stinks of desperate TV junk food like the stuff Fox would produce. I'd rather see another Carol Burnnette style show--and based on the Reunion show's ratings, so does everyone else.

How it was BIg in Arnold's hand and small in Lerleene's LMAO!! Oh gawd!! Oh i didn't get the Patridge show too much as i never watched in that show in the first place, but it would be interesting to see how the other shows pan out. I am DYING to see the Jeffersons!! ...with a supersoaker full of warm urine. I mean it wasn't anything to kill someone over, BUT IT WAS THAT CLOSE. The person who said that you can't parody comedy was wrong. You can parody comedy, but it ends up being staggeringly unfunny. To the person who thought the Mr. Drummond voice thing was funny I just have one thing to say. IT WAS NOT FUNNY. Conrad Bain doesn't sound at all like that, so where is the humor? It's like doing an impression of Mohamad Ali and sounding like Woody Allen. It has no connection to the person you are poking fun at, so there is no humor. AND THAT FUCKING HORRIBLE PARTRIDGE FAMILY SKETCH!!!!!!!!!!!! This idea for a show could work if done by any people with even a slight bit of talent, but there was nothing here to convince me that the people working on this show have any talent at all. The only thing on this show even worth a damn was the candy box size joke, and they killed that by forcing it down our throats and then kicking us in the gut to bring it back up again. This show will definitely go down in the history of garbage television right along side Fox's "Fastlane". Man the only thing that shows is going to have going for it is Miss Jenifer Sky. And it probably still won't be worth a ten second glance.

I actually sat through an entire episode of this piece of crap someone calls entertainment. Now granted, I can honestly say I REMEMBER that episode of Differ'ent Strokes, and there were maybe a couple of moments when the show was funny. (The guy playing Mrs. Garret was very good. Passing Arnold back and forth and Willis having to adjust himself after Lurlene left.) But the whole "Look where they are now!" references were a bad idea. I mean Conrad Bain is dead, so is Dana Plato. It's not funny. And the Partridge Family skit wreaked of badness with the exception of the nice ass on Ashley Drane who played Laurie (had to do a bit of hunting to find that out. Fortunately, I can say I watched, I didn't like, I'll not watch again. Dumbasses.

I had no intention of watching "Rerun" from the ads i saw, i was totally turned off I mean why do a remake of those shows "with a twist"? what would be the point of it all? But hey it was thursday, i was in why the hey not i'll give it a shot. having grown up watching Diff. strokes, i have to say i found it's parody version hilarious, hysterical, down and out funny. As a kid u don't know how cheesy something is until you watch it with a more mature mind and realize "what the hell did i see in that?" Rerun doesn't remake the shows, it makes fun of it and not just the show but the actors who portrayed then (yeah conrad and dana have passed on god rest their souls) but it was a sweet deal and it all came together nicely. but how many other shows have we poked fun at for their absurdity? WWF/E anyone? how ridculous is that? Suvivor? UGH! with camera crew and aids and a way to get out from wherever they were, what exactly are they surviving besides obstacles? rubbish i say!! But a show that pokes fun at a show, shows we've poked fun at for years? I'm IN!! Television is already overrun with crap, at least i can get a show that makes fun of that crap that's out there? WWF Rerun show? I HOPE!! Tick Rerun?? I can dream :o) Oh ya to the guy who says mr drummond didn't sound like Mr. Drummond? Did any of those actors sound like any of the originals? Hence the whole parody theme. I'm all over the next episode.

Is it just me, or have execs abandoned the tactic of hiring talented people to make TV shos in favor of what has the zaniest concept (or for whatever concept is currently the rage, ie, reality tv)? I'm sick of shows built entirely on premise. No single premise is good enough to be pulled off without talented people. Talented people, however, can go quite far with more mundane premises.

Sorry, couldn't resist. But anyway, I enjoyed the show. A lot of it just was dead weight. But you know what? The reason they parody these shows, is because they know we like them. Or we once did. There's no shame in my saying,"yeah, I remember the exact episode they're making fun of". Heck, I catch an episode of the Facts every so often. I can hum the damn Diff'rent Strokes theme, and yes, I've seen every episode of Saved By the Bell. Sue me for it. It's apart of nostalgia, they're cashing in. As long as it's good, then and now, who should complain?
