Gawdamn! This sounds like just about the greatest cinema event in history! Sob. Missing this will redefine the entire concept of feeling sorry for myself.
Sounds like a great time.

Holy Crap! I never in my life thought I'd ever have the chance to see this gem on the big screen. This was once of the first sci-fi/horror films I saw as a child, and it made a huge impact on me. It is now one of my most treasured DVDs, and the cheezy one-sheet hangs in a hallowed place on my walls. If there is still anyone who has never seen this film, make it to this event or get the DVD now! And that says nothing about all this Gerry Anderson goodness! Moriarty, did you say "UFO" on DVD???? YES!!!!

Quatermass and The Pit in the US was called "5 Million Years to Earth". You've got the right movie, but wrong title. Probably thinking of "20 Million Miles to Earth" (1957) the Ray Harryhausen classic giant monster movie which just came out on DVD. The other Quatermass flicks: The Quatermass Xperiment (1955, known in the US as "The Creeping Unknown", but now available on VHS in the States as the original UK title). Starring the fairly awful (when compared to Keir or other actors who have portrayed Prof Q) Brian Donlevy. Quatermass 2 (1957) a.k.a. "Enemy from Space, available on DVD in the US. GREAT movie, despite Donlevy. Really creepy for its time. Quatermass and the Pit... yes, already discussed, BUT, you can actually find a VHS in the States (DVD or VHS in more civilized parts of the world) of the original 1958 BBC 6 part serial. Very cool from a historical POV, and would definitely appeal to fans of Quatermass and early Doctor Who serials. Finally, "Quatermass", "Quatermass 4" or "The Quatermass Conclusion", the 1978 ITV serial with Sir John Mills as Prof Q. Very strange and eerie film. Actually available in its original format through HBO home video (avoid the awful chopped version!!). Definitely the odd man out, but enjoyable sci-fi nonetheless. Nigel Kneale was the author of all of these, and really was ahead of his time. The man is an underrated genius in the world of television and science fiction. I used to hope John Carpenter really would remake some of these classics (especially as he's "borrowed" from them, i.e. Prince of Darkness), but I worry that they'd just sort of taint the original.

Friday August 9 - Friday the 13th Part III in 3-D at the Nuart in Santa Monica!!! Saturday July 20 - the original Highlander at the Rialto in Pasadena!!!

Imagine watching those flicks then having her talk about Mario Bava for an hour or so. Geekgasms would be numerous and regular.
