Sad about Excel
by WizardX

While I'm almost always a "sub" person, I was incredibly impressed with the dub of Excel Saga - to the point I think it's the best way to watch it. (the first time my roomie and I saw it, we could barely watch the action because we were spending so much time reading the subtitles) And most of this was due to to Ms Calvello's absolutely perfect dubbing of Excel. I certainly hope her voice heals, and that ADV can find a comparable actress to finish up the series. This is one of the few times I've seen an American company come up with an anime dub that's as good as the original, and it'd be a shame if that was lost.
"Spirited Away" out this fall in North America?

I quickly scanned the Canadian Famous Players Theatres' kids' movie mag, post Lilo and Stitch. There was a one paragraph blurb about "Spirited Away" being released in Sept/Oct. Anyone else heard of this?
anime/manga is for hacks who can't draw.

seriously. the artistry in anime/manga is the combination of simply drawn characters with intricate backgrounds. w/out the complex backgrounds, those big-eyed, disproportionate, messy-haired cartoons look like they're drawn by 8 year old girls. hacks.

GOLDMEMBER SPOILERS

from the washington post Forget Dick Cheney's constant complaints about leaks. Yesterday New Line Cinema, citing everything but national security, pleaded with us not to publish details of the glitzy cameo appearances in "Austin Powers in Goldmember," the studio's summer blockbuster starring Mike Myers, which opens July 26. According to a source closely involved with the production, the opening sequence is an elaborate movie-within-a-movie featuring Tom Cruise as Austin Powers and Gwyneth Paltrow as the "busty babe" who keeps his mojo going. Danny DeVito plays Mini-Me and Kevin Spacey emotes as Dr. Evil.Director Steven Spielberg yells "cut," and the real story begins. We hear other cameos include Ozzy Osbourne and his family, John Travolta and Nathan Lane.

Synch-Point point send out a press release about the delay. If Amazon has it (no one else seems to), it's an aberration.

Yes, you do in fact SUCK. Also, you are apparently either totally retarded or just a fool to declare (by your group statement) masters such as Osamu Tezuka, Leiji Matsumoto, Rumiko Takahashi, CLAMP, Naoko Takeuchi, and Yuzo Takada as hacks. Please spout off about something you actually know about next time.....

I didn't know just how much us otaku are considered outcasts. The Trolls this week must have been breeding. If you don't have nothing to post that REMOTELY fits with the topic, or isn't put together in an intelligent manner, then SCREW OFF! -Th@ Tr011 $1@yer -Z0ne Zer0 PS: Looking foreward to Cowboy Bebop in movie form. So, attacking me about a profile I haven't updated in 6 years? I had that address when I was young and stupid. Back when I DIDN'T know nothing about nobody. I've changed. And why IS IT that when someone tries to troll bait, they call someone a fag? Alright, I bit. I guess the fucks that post here are nothing but homofobic skinheaded racists who don't know the difference between their cocks and the straw in their mug of jolt. Get off the caffiene and get some sleep. Maybe your attitudes would get better. And one more thing, get off Harry's back. He's a nice guy. He gives a damn about what goes on here, and I bet he's pig biting mad that rubes like the "boyz" that post here are wrecking a good site. Yeah, shoot the messenger. There will be another behind me. Get a clue.

Reminder for those of you with free e-mail accounts at AnimeNati

Here's a little reminder for those of you with free e-mail accounts at AnimeNation.net for the various anime related domains (like galaxypolice.com , sniff); starting July 1st, they will no longer be free, so, pay up, or your account will be terminated. (The bright side is, assuming the person with the e-mail address Kiyone@galaxypolice.com doesn't opt to pay, I can claim it!)
Why change the title of KNOCKING ON HEAVEN'S DOOR?
by Kiyone

Pretty bloody obvious... because they'd have to get permission from Bob Dylan and/or whichever corporation owns the rights to the song just to use the title in North America, and, considering the song isn't actually used anywhere in the film, and considering that this will be an art house circuit film at best, it probably isn't worth the asking price.

Yes, Disney will be releasing SPIRITED AWAY theatrically starting September 20th, though I doubt it will be wide. My best guess is that it will play on 200-300 screens (which is a good number of screens for a foreign film; enough screens so that it will be only a public transit ride at most away for the vast majority of you) and make $20 to 30 million at most. The bad side of releasing it in September is that it is actually the worst time of year to release a kids film, with parents too busy getting their kids in the back to school routine, but the good side is that it puts at in an advantage over the summer animated films in the Best Animated Feature Oscar race (though, realistically, the best I can hope for is that it will be nominated... something with more hype will probably win; getting it nominated for Best Picture is a pipe dream, but at least it's already won a shitload of European awards).

...but even if they were true, thanks to the Canadian Government and the CRTC (the Canadian FCC) I can't watch ABCFamily (or Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon), either on Canadian satellite/cable systems (can't have American premium channels competing with Canadian premium channels on a level playing field, unless there is no Canadian equivalent) or from an American satellite provider (owning American mini-dishes was made illegal this spring, even if you're paying for the full service using an American address and not using a hacked card), so it's moot. Canadians haven't even seen TENCHI MUYO or COWBOY BEBOP yet (except on video and DVD, of course).

They're dubbing the episodes for TV... this takes a while, and they only announced that they have the rights a couple of months back; I wouldn't expect anything to be on TV before this fall, at the earliest.
yankeessuck needs a clue

I'm sure yankeessuck wouldn't so quick to judge the art in manga if he/she were to find out that the reason manga doesn't always have backgrounds, seems "rushed" or whatever else he doesn't like about it is because the artists are usually only given about one week to produce a full-length comic. Given the option, they usually try to put more emphasis on the story. They aren't given the month-long(and sometimes longer) deadlines to fill a comic. I'd certainly pay to see anyone produce a full-length, full-color comic with perfect artwork and a gripping story in the limits of a week. If anyone has one, let me know

why are you posting this article in every TalkBack? Who knows who the real cameos are going to be in Goldmember? I would be willing to bet that noone except the people that worked on the film, knows who the true cameos are. Regardless, I'm excited to check out Goldmember and can't wait to see all of the different cameos...I read somewhere that Racquel Welch is going to show up...could be fun!
