..and I mean it. Let me guess, apeface lispy, whiney Wahlberg is going to play the Michael Caine character? Yeah, good call, cuz he's like, you know, really cool and has that same streetwise, sussed attitude that "Alfie" Caine has. BOLLOX! Will the minis (as in proper cool 1960's minis) still be in it? No modern car could do it, unless the producers go for those Smart Car things...highley unlikely, there's nothing smart about a producer that wants to remake The Italian Job. Who will play Mr Bridger? Will the name Camp Larry be changed? 'course it will. This is the killer, who the kucf are they going to get to play the Benny "Genius" Hill character? And pleeeeeeeeeeeease dont let any of the following go anywhere near singing the greatest coach-sing-along ever "The Self Preservation Society" * Aero-phookin-smith * That beardy group that did that Spider-man "hero" thing. * No bloody hip-hop group, and I like hip-hop..ok..maybe Outkast should be allowed to do it. ...let Ozzy do it. And to think, I found out this film was being remade on Jubilee day too, wot a pisser.

I think it's time to introduce the death penalty for stupid ideas ... it's the only way we can keep the gene pool from sliding back into the primordial ooze ...

...but I'd like to drive one up the ass of the person who greenlit this remake. On second thought, it could work if you got a bunch of the original minis and had them drive crazily around the Palazzo in really fast motion to the tune of "Yakety Sax."
It's all happening in Cambridge

Will the production of the Graham Chapman story (starring Rhys Ifans) run into the production of the Sylvia Plath story (starring Gwyneth Paltrow), and what would happen if they overlapped? I assume they'd both need hefty location filming here in Cambridge. Still, it would give me a chance to point out to all of you where most of my amdram here at University has been. Incidentally, Terry Jones is currently filming a new Discovery Channel documentary called The Hidden History of Love and Sex, and I've now got a tiny speaking role in it. I'm worried I may have to appear in a thong and silver paint.

First off... Why in hell's name is everything special effects called matrix-like? What the hey does that exactly mean? Spider-Man was not in anyway like the Matrix. With the exception of one slow motion shot, I don't recall anything in Spider-Man at all that even remotely resembled the effects work in The Matrix. This guy's a loon. The effects were very Spider-Man like, not too-much anything else. It sounds to me like he's picking for complaints. This happens too often with people trying to convince themselves not to like a movie. Personally I don't get why you would want to do this. If you were entertained and it was a good flik, why try to talk yourself into disliking it? Most of his complaints were unfounded. The acting was good and the Fx were as good as any. The only beef that could even be halfway an issue was the corny dialog. But, hey, it's a comic book, get over it. And what's with the Mary Jane Watson not being developed shit? Her character was handled wonderfully. She doesn't need more screentime. This is not the MJ story, it's Spider-Man. Just because you like an actress doesn't mean her needs to be expanded. It goes according to script. If the plot requires her to have more screen time in the next movie, so be it. The plot determines it, not the likes and dislikes of the public for particular actresses and actors. Now, as to my disagreement with the review... I'll tell you. Insomnia was just okay. I saw it last weekend. Nothing very memorable about it. The story idea was interesting, and the acting of course was spot on. But the movie itself just came across as blah. 'Reminded me somewhat of Copland. I thought Copland was better. Insomnia is one of those average movies that you really hope the cast can carry it to the next level. While the cast does make the movie better, it still falls short of being what I'd call a success. I actually did find myself walking out of the theatre going ehhh, that was okay... What comes out next week? It was worth the money to see, but nothing to go googoo over.

Nolan is the man. I saw the original, and Nolan managed to create a wonderful and unique version of the story. Memento was easily one of my favorite movies of last year, so it's no crime to say that Insomnia isn't quite up to that level, but of all the films out right now (haven't seen Sum of Fears or Y Tu Mama yet) Nolan's Insomnia is the film to beat.

Bloody right! Get in early I say :D This fella Kieran http://www.aintitcool.com/tb_d isplay.cgi?id=11835#432867 hit the nail on the head as far as the respect with which The Italian Job is held over here.. "What people outside of the UK don't know or even suspect is that to the Brits, the Italian Job isn't just a film. It's an expression of national identity. It's like THE QUEEN or TEA or SOCCER VIOLENCE or WARM BEER or SUMMER IN IBITHA. Every British male gets an patriotic hard on whenever someone does an immitation of Michael Caine's most famous line from the film, "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off." And they'll stand to attention whenever the theme song "Self Preservation Society" is played. My advice to the film-makers is don't do it. You're playing with fire. You thought the UK lost its collective marbles over the death of Diana or the Louise Woodwards case, well you ain't seen nothing yet." Its all tongue-in-cheek (I think) but us Brits wont be taking this lightly! ;)

Nolan's ideas are not his own

Does it bother anyone that Nolan seems so willing to lift the ideas of others? Memento was blatant theft of an idea/concept created in Tom Twyker's 1996 "Winter Sleepers". And as we all know, a near perfect version of "Insomnia" was made 4 short years ago. Who will join me in calling this guys bluff? Not that I deny his talents, they are undeniable, however there are ethical conflicts in his idea generation.
