star wars was cool when it hadn't been over-done, over-hyped, over-merchandised and just plain abused. I still love it to bits, but Star Wars has become the cliche. you know it's sad but true...

geez jouiez. . . anyway, ya, having a life-afiriming best-buds story set with the backdrop of internet geek movie culture fandom is a cool idea. But ending it with "DEAR LORD, JAR-JAR SUCKS!!!" and then the friend keeling over and dying would be a bummer of an ending...but really funny in twistedly dark sorta way. . . hmmmm, maybe they SHOULD do that just to fuck with the audience... I'd get a kick outta that . . .

Then again, hasn't Trek fandom had at least two movies like this (Trekkies and Free Enterprise)? And then there was Detroit Rock City for the KISS fans. The self-referential postmodern fanboy parody isn't exactly that novel a concept any more.

Is that when he tells the dying boy that 60% of the footage is out of focus? That sounds really cruel, man. Kid gives up on life, soul crushed. Surviving friends are denied that early screening at Skywalker Ranch ("Sorry, kids, but the dying fan died, right? You're not dying, are you? Then buy a ticket."). But they manage to buy scalped tickets for the premiere at Grauman's for hundreds of dollars, their entire stake, but "for Billy." There are tears down their cheeks as they enter with the crowd, then we fade to black. Then fade back in with them exiting, mumbing, "Jesus, that was it?" "Yeah, good thing Billy corked off back in Austin." Run credits. "I can't believe we went broke for that." "Well, who wants to start blowing people for bus fare?" Fade out.
Here come the trite cliches, let's count them one by one.

that this should... MUST... take place with them sneaking in on the screening of Episode 3. too many fans were disappointed with Ep. 1, Ep. 1 is in the past and the fan hooplah has long subsided, Ep. 3 is the end of the series and would be a much bigger deal. Let's face it, this is a cute idea, but if it comes out and it's about a movie that's been out for four or five years and a lot of fans were apathetic about in the first place, who gives a rats hiney?

Why not modify the storyline to make it Episode III? Can you imagine being a lifelong Star Wars fan and feel that you're going to miss the final film of the bunch, the one that brings it all together? I mean, let's face it, no matter how bad "Menace" was and "Clones" MIGHT BE (I could see it going either way, anywhere but in the land of Apathy), you're still going to see Episode III, because you sat through Jar Jar and "Excuse me, M'Lady" just to see how it all comes down. That's the movie you've really been fantasizing about since '77 (if you've been around that long). We've got officially one month now before II, but that means three years and a month before III. So don't get involved in the mob, don't play near railroad tracks, and don't take vacations to the Middle East. Boy, what I would give to see Saddam Hussein look over the dunes and see a line of AT-TEs (or whatever the new AT-ATs are) marching relentlessly forward. But anyway, just sit tight, because these next three years are when the stakes REALLY get high.

...and featured Little Brittney in many small pieces of clothing. It makes me laugh when this site pans a film and then a friend of Harry's comes up with a project that is very similar, features the same melodramatic crap we hate and yet, it is the BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR. If Blade II wasn't any idication of that, look at what we've got to look forward to from this site. I personally don't want Harry on screen, and if this is PG-13 or PG, fuckin' little kids are going to be screaming their way down the aisle at first visual mention of Mr. Knowles. This is just a sorry attempt to get fan geeks excited about some cliche ridden piece of road carcass. What would be fun? Show how socially unintelligable Star geeks are, how they can't keep a job because they are always going to conventions and definately show one getting kicked to the curb with all his green plastic Yoda banks because he can't pay his rent because he is there front and center at the Comic Book and Collectibles Shop every Tuesday waiting for a new shipment to bust his pay check. Definately have one spend most of his life savings on one item, only to have him discover it is a fake. Oh, and the dying friend, he's only there because these fucks want to get into the movie and sympathy is their only chance in hell, so off to Skywalker Ranch they go. Yeah, these are pitiful human beings, not self assured neo-intellectuals.

Hello All. First things first, I can't believe somebody called me a suit. It's a tuesday, a workday, and I am definitely not wearing a suit. I'm wearing a t-shirt with Gary Coleman on it. Secondly, thanks for the faith Feral, we're going doing everything we can exactly to copy Crossroads, because it was a such a cinematic masterpiece that I think all movies should strive to be that good. HELL EMPHATICALLY NO! But you set yourself up for it with comparing a great script like Ernie wrote to that horrendous dreck. I'm Matt Perniciaro, the producer of the film Fanboys. I was preparing for shots from the talkbackers for quite some time, knowing that this day would come and I guess I'm taking it better than Kevin Smith because I'm not quite ready to make a movie(a great one it was) about you guys ripping on us. Fanboys is a great script, Harry's recognized it and so have we by moving forward with it. And yes, it DOES have a heart. Some people like that, some don't, to each his(or her ladies) own. Think about your best friends. Now think about if one of them came up to you this evening and said I'm going die. Soon. Unless you are one cold son of a bitch, the heart comes into play in that situation. But for those of you who don't like heart, you might enjoy some of the other things, such as geek talk, an amazingly tattooed gas station attendant named Roach, breaking and entering, fighting with mullet clad monsters, klingons, those large yard sized drinks they sell on the streets in Vegas mixed with pain medication, old girlfriends, new girls who happen to become friends along the way and a Warrior airbrushed pizza van named Bucephalus. Look, I can't convince you to love this story as much as I did, but I can tell you how we're approaching it. I found this script through this website. I've been a reader, a fan, for years and years. I remember reading the original posts and being a broke college student, not able to do a thing to help Ernie at the time. Now, things have changed a bit and I tracked him down. After about six months, and a conversation with Ernie Cline of Pennsylvania, not the Ernie I needed in Austin, I found him and read the script. It was everything I had imagined and more and it just gets better the more we work on it. This is a movie about fans, made by fans, and I can confidently say that this is true, as I sit here looking at my UK Quad poster for Brotherhood of the Wolf in my Gary Coleman t-shirt. More than anything, it's about friends and how far would you go for your friend. I don't know about you guys, but I've done some pretty crazy stuff over the years because my friend wanted or needed me to. Harry being in the film, is our collective geek heart giving it up for the man who got so many of us here and definitely got me with this project. There will be all sorts of surprises that we have in store, little things that only we care about, you'll just have to trust me and wait to see. We're in casting right now. The website will go up right before production later this year and we'll be constantly updating here on AICN, of course, with new tidbits of info. If we make the movie as well as I hope we do, I think you guys will really enjoy it. But, for now, any casting suggestions?(one of the lead four roles is already cast) I'd love to hear them. Matt Perniciaro

Just a pity that ep1 was shite. and wtf are all these anti-geeks doing posting all their bullshit in this SW talkback.Probably Bitter about their complete lack of imagination or something. It's like "Man I really hate those geeks, so let me wander over to a site aimed primarily at film geeks, find an article about a movie which I consider to be loved by geeks, and go into a talk back which must be filled with geeks and post articles where I tell those geeks how much I think they're geeks before buggering off and continuing with my pointless life" What has this achieved besides giving us 'geeks' a demonstration of the stupidity of 'non-geeks'

Those pop-ups probably pay for the goddamn talkbacks. So shutup and don't bite the hand that feeds. By the way... this TB is hilarious! "They play all 6 episodes in heaven"... that's fucking classic. I still don't get the reasoning for not making Han shoot first - life is unfair.

Well no kidding, if they based that road trip on that movie, it would make the character's death even more tragic and meaningless. Talk about depressing. They should hold off and make a fictionalized account of a road trip to see "Return of the King" after the Two Towers is made. Death Rattle and Jar Jar don't mix.

Hey Marc. You know, you've posted 3 times on this Talkback and you'll probably post again. Each one a pointless attempt to out-do last. I bet you've spent all fucking day thinking of JUST what to write for your next post. You were probably thinking-up what further insults you could hurl against this movie, yet again, before reading this. NOW your probably going to spend a couple more hours, trying to conjure up an appropriate come-back (More then likely it will be something about ass-plunging)... Is that how you like to spend your time? Because, if it is, Marc, just get in the hole now... your life was over a log time ago.

I kinda thought Price's "getting blasted in the face with a firehouse filled with diarrhea" was kinda funny. What I'd like to know is, when the terminal kid croaks, is he gonna fade out with nothing left but his Jedi robes , or are his friends going to burn his body over a pile of sticks in the middle of the woods?

He's good shit. Then again, I dunno the ages of the characters. Hey Matt, I just hope that all four guys aren't cookie-cutter nerds. By the sounds of things, I have nothing to worry about. I'm just sick of the old stereotype that film buffs are either queer or just really fat loners who can't get laid. I get my balls busted from my friends all the time for liking movies. My own PARENTS think being a movie buff doesn't suit me (?). I get laid (though not lately . . . damn broads and their openness towards one another!). I love sports (except hockey -- I'm a canuck, but I hate the mouthy, dumbass, tough-guy mentality that comes along with the sport) and I really love movies. They're my hobby, and I fuckin' love it. I also know that I'm not alone here. Just as JSBSB gave a big "go fuck yerself" to these whiny talkback shitheads, I hope Fanboys does the same towards every person who thinks that loving cinema makes you a loser. I'm 21. What the hell is "cool" when you're 21 anyways. What, are we in grade seven??? Fanboys sounds cool, but I hope it works towards squashing some of these stereotypes, rather than adding fuel to the fire. If all four guys wear suspenders, pick their noses and play with action figures, I'll be right pissed off. That pizza van best be doublin' as a shaggin waggon!!!!

I love you. And not, not in a friendly way, although I think we're great friends. And not in a misplaced affection, puppy-dog way, although I'm sure that's what you'll call it. I love you. Very, very simple, very truly. You are the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in another human being. And I know that you think of me as just a friend, and crossing that line is the furthest thing from an option you would ever consider. But I had to say it. I just, I can't take this anymore. I can't stand next to you without wanting to hold you. I can't, I can't look into your eyes without feeling that, that longing you only read about in trashy romance novels. I can't talk to you without wanting to express my love for everything you are. And I know this will probably queer our friendship - no pun intended - but I had to say it, because I've never felt this way before, and I don't care. I like who I am because of it. And if bringing this to light means we can't hang out anymore, then that hurts me. But God, I just, I couldn't allow another day to go by without just getting it out there, regardless of the outcome, which by the look on your face is to be the inevitable shoot-down. And, you know, I'll accept that. But I know...I know that some part of you is hesitating for a moment, and if there is a moment of hesitation, then that means you feel something too. All I ask, please, is that you just, you just not dismiss that - and try to dwell in it for just ten seconds. There isn't another soul on this fucking planet who has ever made me half the person I am when I'm with you, and I would risk this friendship for the chance to take it to the next plateau. Because it is there between you and me. You can't deny that. Even if, you know, even if we never talk again after tonight, please know that I'm forever changed because of who you are and what you've meant to me, which - while I do appreciate it - I'd never need a cross country road trip to a shitty prequel movie to remind me of.

As a direct link from this sight not too long ago, you could read the script to 12-5-72 which is about a fan's quets to see Star Wars on opening day. It's less about Star Wars itself than it is about his coming of age and coming to grips with his future and his friends. Sound familiar? I've read the script and it sounds way better than this sorry thing. The thing that makes 12-5-77 cool, is that this kid has toured the studios before and wanted to be a director. So he knows how cool it's going to be, even though everyone around him thinks he's a bit nuts. At the time almost everybody thought it sounded cool, but it was the word of mouth after 12-5-77 (the actual date) that made STar Wars huge. How does this dying kid with one last wish know?
