"...make a classic SOMEDAY"?!

Man, if "Dark City" isn't classic, I don't know what it's going to take to satisfy you. I'm fully in sync with Roger Ebert in thinking that this is going to be another "Blade Runner"; ignored in its time, rediscovered years later, then hailed as visionary. Now, when I first heard Proyas was going to make a comedy, I thought I'd heard wrong. This is such a bizarre notion that it's a must-see. Sleep now.

Cool is in the eye of the beholder, Scuzz-guy. As far as classic goes, I'd count the Crow as a classic - true it had an emotional resonance because of factors separate from the text itself, but then again, what film don't you take your own baggage to? Dark City though? Didn't see it at the cinema, and have tried to watch it on three separate occasions at my friends behest: fell asleep all three times. And before you ask, I was only toasted on two of those occasions. So there. Good to see Proyas making films again, though. The Crow hit him pretty hard, and when Dark City flopped, I thought we'd never see him again. Happy news indeed.

I'm gonna keep talking for a little while longer... The Crow is still a masterpiece, however flawed. Dark City, well that's not my scene. Plenty of ideas but too cold, too lifeless. Now Garage Days sounds perfect. I've always had Alex down as one of the most talented directors in the biz. I was a little worried he'd disappear after The Crow. Glad to see he's come back with a signature movie. Rock n roll man... and it's the weekend...
Glad to see Proyas at it again.

I loved 'The Crow' and saw the brilliant 'Dark City' on opening night in a half empty theater (some people wouldn't know a good movie if it fell from the sky and smacked them on the head). This sounds like a unique experience... then again, every Proyas film is a unique experience. I'll be checking it out once it's released!

I'm not kidding you here. And I'm not talking about when they filmed everyone at Homebake, either. So I just want to say the guy who plays the lead singer is a drug fucked attention seeking egomaniac. And I'm OUT

The Crow was the second best comic-to-film adaption ever, (Superman: The Movie being the first,) now just imagine him with a Frank Miller Batman script...gives me goosebumps.

Maybe Alex Proyas will announce he`s thinking about going back and doing "The Crow 4". And maybe years from now, he`ll release three or four differnet "special editions" of "Dark City".

Who let the goths out, arn't you all extinct. Please your clothing reflects your general lack of taste. The crow is a quite awfully adolesent wank fantasy, it looked 15 years out of date when it came out. A loathsome mixture of bad acting, shite plotting and sub MTV directing. Now Dark city was much more interesting, although its pretty flawed ultimately it was a worthy attempt at a new style of Sci fi movie. So i have to say I'm intrigued by Proyas new one, good to see he can tell a different sort of story, respect.

Australia like America in the 80s?

I'm sorry but that isn't true. Or let me put it this way: I'm sure there are parts of America that are still like America in the 1980s.********* Australian culture (as it has been for many years) is almost a direct transplant of American culture. We have the same crap songs in the top 40 as you do. We are a year behind in TV shows at most. 80% of movies in the cinemas are American.******** Thankfully, a bit of our own culture seeps through as well, is even successfully exported overseas, in music and movies at least.********* And not just culture but lifestyle is parallel with the US. We have one of the highest internet and computer usage per capita in the world blah blah blah.******** If any Americans have seen "The Castle" they should realize that it is highly misrepresentative of Australia. It's about a family who are still stuck in the 80s. Most of the rest of us are firmly in the 21st century.********* Incidentally, this movie sounds interesting and although I never see Aussie movies in theatres (simply on the merits of the individual movies... although there are a few I should have seen) I may check this one out.
Garage Days will not make it to theatres.

NO character development. Predictable plot. Awful casting. Pissant wooden actors playing wannabe rockstars with no charisma whatsoever, who can't even play their own instruments, in a narrative so vapid, the only thing that kept me in my seat was the questionaire at the end of the film. Who cares about the effects, the music, or the setting, if the story, and the direction are not there? Who thought this turd would fly? Why are adult film executives making garbage like this? I want my 2 hours back! Never before in any rockstar movie I have ever seen, has it been so painfully obvious that the actors could not play their own instruments. Why couldn't they at least take it upon themselves to get coached in playing their assigned musical instruments. If they can't rock, who the hell cares?!!? If the director didn't require coaching, and the actors didn't take it upon themselves, what does that say about the actors and the director? You got it! And what about the inherently un-romantic use of a cel phone by the lead singer? That's about as un struggling rockstar-like as you can get. But I guess it helped the script quite a bit. I mean, here they have some struggling grungy pretty boy record store clerk, wannabe rockstar, driving an old jallopy that overheats at the most inopportune times, and he's using a cel phone? Don't get me wrong, I'm not some stodgy elitist film fan. I loved Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, This is Spinal Tap, Still Crazy, Bandwagon, and Go. Besides the "edgy" use of high speed cinematography (and some other cool effects), excessive use of drugs by the characters, and the requisite angst filled subplots that threaten to break the band up. There is little else here but some weak lifeless performances, given by actors who will never be heard from again (in this country), and some damn good music wasted on the soundtrack. I can't help but wonder how many of the positive posts here are from the camp that bore "Garage Days". Cut your losses and release it to TV, or video. Blech.

Only Brandon's death gave that movie any more weight than your average Sisters of Mercy video. DARK CITY had unbelievably cool concepts and visuals, but Proyas has no clue about coherant narrative of working with actors. With stronger acting and a tighter hand on the plot DARK CITY would have been a masterpiece, rather than a failed opportunity. Mind you, New Line DID fuck it right in the ass with it's advertising. Or lack thereof.

I am good friends with all of the members of a band with a lot of talent trying to make it big. Let mr tell you something -- it's not like you think. The lead singer is a hot tamale who's married to the rythym guitarist. Three of the band members are from another band. Let me state again - they are talented. They have more talent than ALL of the pop shitheads currently making it big and most (90 percent) of the alterna-rock scene. Despite this, they are all broke, sometimes play EXTREMELY undesirable gigs, and generally put up with a lot of shit from The Syste. Yet somehow they manage to carry on and keep their passion for making music. Also, even though they are poor, they manage to all afford cell phones (so the dumbshit who claims that a lead singer of a band having a cell is bullshit can choke on it). Let me tell you, their story - which is completely true - has a lot of drama, tears, and comedy. If Proyas can capture some of what these talented bands go through, then this will be a good movie.

Dude, are you insane? Fincher made FIGHT CLUB, that's one of the most effective black comedies I've ever seen in my life. Flicks like that excuse 5, maybe 6 bad films. Fincher still has 3 bad films to go before I start referring to him as an idiot savant.

And not just at Homebake either. (I was in a couple of scenes) The final scene was great fun to shoot. Mmmmm free beeeer! Alex is a very down-to earth bloke, no attitude at all for such a great director!
