the airtight garage

while any news of moebius' work coming to the screen is great, i was really hoping for something more in the style of incal or the airtight garage of jerry cornelius. isn't arzak done in his rougher style? definitely good, but i love the cerebral surrealism of his more spare linework.
And what about Mezieres ???

I got a book on him that has nearly all the scenes from 5th element drawn by him !!! But of course the Moebius Gestapo doesn't want another artist overshadowing his work !!!
Is there enough material to work with?

I've got the collected Arzak works by Moebius. And it's a pretty slim volume.About three or four short {five pages or so}stories with cool art , and no dialogue. The stories themselves are surreal and more or less have no proper narrative , in the established sense. That's part of what makes them interesting. But only in these short bursts. How is this going to be stretched into a series.? The whole lot wouldn't last more than twenty minutes animated together.Obviously theyre going to come up with new stories , but if the section of the Heavy Metal movie called *Taarna*{more or less Arzak , with a sex change}is anything to go by..it could be a bit pointless.Moebious' distinct inkline style ,looks really nice on a page , but doesn't work well animated.Lets hope they get his Pteradactyl/plucked turkey looking nicer than in Taarna. As someone said in an earlier post.Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius would make a more obvious series .
Finally my namesake gets some play.... hehe.

This is great news! Moebius will always be my fave fantasy/ sci-fi artist. His "organic" Iron Man poster hangs on my wall. His comics and books pack my shelves more than any other artist... there's something hypnotic and soothing about his drawing style. Ever seen Ridlet Scott's "Ridley gram" sketches? Pure Moebius. His influence is all over the place, but most never notice. Many of the great and or ground breaking sci-fi films have pre-production "visualisations" by Moebius. Animated Moebius, controlled by the master himself, could be on par with Hayao Miyazaki (Totoro) as far as beauty and fluidity are concerned. We'll see. And for anybody who hasn't seen his stuff... What the hell are you waiting for?! P.S. THE INCAL. Now there's a trilogy I'd like to see brought to the big screen back to back.
I just noticed....

that it says 14 episodes each lasting 3 and a half minutes. What context would such short pieces be aired in? But as someone stated above... short pieces would hold truer to the essence of the original comics. Weird.

I've been a rabid fan of all things Metal Hurlant related since i was about 8 years old (grade 3 if i remember correctly)...very progressive parents i had!...so while most of my friends were just discovering marvel and dc, i was basking in the glory of Moebius, Druillet, Caza, Bilal, and Corben...(to name a few)-------so believe me when i say this is great news!!!....i agree with Arzak....make the Incal someone!!!!please!!!... thanks Father Geek and poverty robot....cheers

This Arzak stuff is all very interesting. But what I really wanna know is: When will Giraud give us the next, long-awaited dose of Blueberry? Let's see those moustache-ioed Earp-brothers shoot the living crap out of the Clantons. Let's hear the rest of Blueberry's early encounter with Geronimo. And most importantly: Let's see our hero rise from his sickbed (two volumes of this lying about is QUITE enough, Mr. Giraud). And Nonkel Bob: You're absolutely right. Mezieres work on "The Fifth Element" is vastly underrated. As I think I've said once before in one of these Talk-Backs; the whole movie has the look and feel of a Valerian-book (albeit one of the lesser ones)
Now THIS is the kind of Talk Back I like

Actually it was a short 'Starwatcher' segment at San Diego Con some 8 or 9 years ago. And it was great. Purely Moebius. It lacked the cross-hatching/sketchiness he's famous for, but had plenty of proportion, restraint and beauty. Definately better than any fabrication of his work has shown so far - from Little Nemo to The Abyss. Also, if you can, check out his unused Dune sketches, mui bien. Let's just hope somebody in the States has half a brain to make it available to us. I don't want to wait as long as I had to for 'Time Masters'.

I think the same company working on the ELFQUEST film is working on the Moebius animated series as well. The CORTO animation looks just like the comics.
BETWEEN "STARWATCHER" AND "ARZACH"

The series is animated in 2D, adaptating the best stories of the original comic in a totally new way and design (but keeping the true spirit of each of it) and creating new amazing stories where, for example, Arzak is fighting against his own shadow in a lost castle before dawn. Moebius is drawing everything himself on computer, coloring every image himself (between 60 and 120 for each episode), storyboarding every episode and directing everything. This is the first time he is so in such a project. Alexandre Brillant Producer Wolfland Pictures
