Spider-Man, Spider-Man, you deserved so much better...

After seeing that corny-ass clip where Peter swings into his apartment in COSTUME in BROAD DAYLIGHT I can't help but feel this will be one of the lamest comic films in history. Then, I catch a glimpse of the worst possible design they could have chosen for Green Goblin and I literally fear for the film. Fear because I knew all along Raimi was a terrible choice. Well, Sony deserves what the get.

Firstly, why not Angelina Jolie as Elektra? Anyone? Secondly, my dream cast for the Watchmen film: Comedian-Dennis Farina; Rorschach-Peter McNicol (yes, from Ally McBeal); Night Owl-Scott Bakula; Silk Spectre-Jennifer Connelly; Ozymandias-Val Kilmer; Dr. Manhattan-Billy Zane (screw CGI, slap some blue body paint on this guy and keep him in the shadows) Anyway, can't wait to see Spidey.

The Spidey swinging into the window scene is some of the best CG I've ever seen. It doesn't look CG so that says something. It's par for the course where the character is concerned. Keep your petty gripes to yourself until after the movie has hit theatres you gypsy fuck.

which i posted way too late in another comic talkback. WHO WAS THE BEST ARTIST TO EVER PENCIL SPIDERMAN? my vote is for the one and only mcfarlane. besides the fact that he quit penciling in 93 to be a loser ceo, he did develop the big eyes, spaghetti webs and insect-like poses that redefined the character. not to mention the splash pages of spidey soaring over the city skyline, taking my...*gasp*...breath away. so what do you think? love em? hate em? dont give a shit? what?

The Green Goblin did look strange yet cool. I guess that when things are in movement the costume works in the world of the film. The organic plus the mechanical aspects totally fits into what I always thought of Spidey as a kid. I think that the concept of spines on his fingers is beyond perfect. How else could he stick on walls? MAGIC? Man, man, man....I dig this film beyond belief. One thing that I'm worried about are those shots of an amusement park looking scene. Maybe it's just me, but the colors looked a little too cartoony. I just hope that the next Spidey film gets slightly darker as Peter gets older and goes to college. This may just be the best comic film ever. By the way has anyone heard of VH1's MC Hammer biopic? Just wondering.

I don't know..... you people don't give any movie a chance. Raimi worked his ass off on this, to what extent you people approve of his commitment in making this movie critical proof of you fanboy fucks is another story. Do yourself a favor, you don't like what you see, don't pay the $8.25 in 6 months. It's a simple as that, people. Don't blame Raimi, don't blame Marvel, we all know there would be some awkwardness translating the comic to film any way you slice it. We've seen this with X-Men and that turned out to do a lot better than any one expected. If you pull X-Men's with this(meaning you knock on the movie before it hits theatres) then that's your cross to bare. You wanted a Spidey movie for 10-15 years, you're getting the fucking thing. I'm not saying it's not ok to be critical, that's fine. But some of you people amaze me at your ignorance. It challenges me actually. I'm just another guy with an opinion, also a Spidey fan since I was like 6, so forgive me if I sound any at all bias because I am a "spider-fan" but stop trying to sound cool calling it shit it's not, especially a "Michael Bay movie". One of yous said that, and I'd like you to tell me why it even looks like one. Yes, Pearl Harbor was a triscuit o' Shite, we get it....but is an out of line comparison of Bay to Sam Raimi at all relevant to making a valid observation over where this film is going? i mean fuck, maybe if there was tight closeups, heightening music, cheesy effects well that could be a Bay film. You ever see Armagedon? I rest my case. Lighten the fuck up you fickle talkbackers. X-Men ate your words, hopefully Spidey will do the same next May, and if the public gives it a chance, than a shitty Green Goblin costume that may arguably resemble a used Ultraman outfit should not be anything a good story, adventure and plot can't take care of.

Whew! So much to love. The web-swinging shots are incedible. Yes, a little CGI-ish but not really that bad. And what would you prefer - Nicholas Hammond (or his stunt double) from the '70s series lamely swinging around on clothsline looking like he's hanging on for dear life? CGI is the only way to really show a Spider-Man on film that moves like the comics. As for the scene where he supposedly swings into his apartment in broad daylight, he's never had any qualms about it in the comic. And until I see the scene in the context of the film, I won't worry about it. On the whole, this is just great. Love the visual explanation of his wall-crawling ability (which was alluded to in the comic at one point years ago), the scene in the school cafeteria with MJ, the spider bite, the dizzying action shots - hell, the whole damn thing! And for best Spidey artist? Gotta go with Ditko first and foremost for establishing the character (and most of his rogue's gallery) with such an all-around idiosyncratic look, then the great John Romita Sr. for making the book so slick, streamlined and dynamic, Romita's son, JR Jr. is right up there now as the best modern Spidey artist (loved his run in the early '80s as well). Mark Bagely's the best of the Ditko-esque Spidey artists but with his own style. And Ross Ardu (sorry for the misspelling) is the most underrated. He did a great job, taking the character throughout most of the '70s. As for McFarlane - most overrated. He could do some nice poses of Spidey in action but that was about it.

Man, simpletons should think at least SOMETIMES before they talk. Of course Spider-Man wouldn't care about swinging into a building in broad daylight. And the prickly things out of his fingers has been mentioned in the comics before as a possible explanation of his sticking power. Oh, and another plus for Raimi: first, he coaxes an awesome nude scene out of Katie Holmes, now we get Kirsten Dunst in a dripping wet shirt... Ya da MAN, Sam!!!

Seriously I LOVED it. It struck a great balance of action, excitement, story, comedy and sex appeal. It also didn't seem to take itself seriously with that end snippet of his aunt saying ' you're not superman you know ' and Peter reacting. I did like the DAYLIGHT as it is a great change of pace from dark night / dark knight storytelling. And of course Kirsten Dunst in a wet shirt and nipping out is always a plus. :)

I thought Sam Raimi was ideal for this movie. I thought Toby was a great choice for Spiderman. Willem Dafoe, brilliant! I wasn't too happy with Kirsten Dunst, but I figured no big deal... But after seeing the trailer (it's up at http://www.apple.com/trailers by the way) I am now fucking worried. Based on the trailer alone this looks like it will be just slightly better than Tomb Raider. Hopefully it's just a shitty trailer though. I will still see this. And of course the first major crack in the foundation was hiring a great, emotive actor like Dafoe and then cover up all facial expression with a fucking latex suit. What the hell...

Yeah.. there are a lotta CG shots.. even up close the spider man costume looks computer... and is it just me or is spiderman not buff enough.. spidey looks a little too sublimely proportion... I know people are gonna say that's not realistic and stuff but they are portraying comic book heros.. these guys are suppose to be super... that's why I didn't like the Xmen cast that much... (besides the fact that most of them were miscast not withstanding patrick stewart as professor X;) they were buff enough didn't appear to be super.. I mean.. yeah I don't expect them to be buff in real life.. but you can sculpt it like they did fer batman.. (despite what people think of batman movies the costumes were good)

...you do realize that Spider-Man has ALWAYS been a major exception to the buff superhero cliche, right? Always. Even when John Romita bulked him up a bit after Steve Ditko had defined him as fairly skinny for several years, he still never had much more than a gymnast's build. Spidey ain't the Hulk. Raimi got it perfect.
The Science Behind the Spines.
by jonrocks
Dec 14th, 2001
03:08:58 AM
About the spines, they are perfectly explainable by science. About a year ago I read this science article on how the spines of lizards work. Basically, a lizard has tiny microscopic spines on its hands and feet. There are so many of these tiny spines that the surface area is far greater than one would expect. I don't remember the exact comparison, but it was quite large. You know, it's the same idea behind the fact that your lungs have the surface area of a football field inside of them. It's all because of the microscopic folds. Anywho, there is a tiny bond that all molecules have between each other. It's very very weak, but by having such a large surface area on that confined space, the bond is strong enough to hold up these lizards. It's true. Within the article they also mentioned that some European company actually developed a machine that works on this principle. They actually had a man walk up a wall using this. Each hand had a shoe box sized container that they held on to and used to climb up the wall with. I'm not sure if he had anything for his feet or not. Probably. So, the concept is true, but I don't think the spines that Parker had would create a large enough surface area to keep him on walls. Well, at least they're using the basic concept. I mean, it's a movie, not a documentary. P.S. The CGI looks very good. It's just the fact you're seeing something that is totally unbelievable that makes you think it doesn't look real......because no one can do this! Seriously, if you do what I have done (sadly) and look at the shots a frame at a time, the CGI spider-man seems totally real. And, after watching it a few times, I don't even see it anymore.....

He has that same wimpy, yet lovable appeal to him like Toby showed in the trailer, and even has the same crackling voice like Toby. Almost. But Fox would of been much more suited for the role simply because, well, hes Michael J. Fox dammit. One of my most favorite actors of our time. Oh yeah, the trailer kicked ass!

This SPIDER-MAN film will be incredible and expect alot of competition to Lucas' CLONES film. Did anyone notice, in frame-by-frame viewing of the trailer, Aunt May being caught in a blast while she's sitting by a table or desk? That explains why she's in the hospital bed I guess.

...is SPIDER-MAN. He looks way too "Playstation" , badly rendered and contorting in unnatural positions as he swings. It's just BAD CGI. Remember, it's not the technology but the ARTISTS using the technology. There are good artists and there are artists that make Spidey look like he jumped out of a playstation. Looks like the latter. "And of course the first major crack in the foundation was hiring a great, emotive actor like Dafoe and then cover up all facial expression with a fucking latex suit." You mean hiding an expressive actors FACE who actually kind of resembles the character he's playing behind a huge fiberglass MASK that was on loan from SIBAN entertainment (they do the power rangers)? Yeah, that was a BAD call. Guys this is the year of the RING. Say it. BELIEVE IT. You'll see. Not the Potter, the webslinger, or the talking duck in what used to be a revered space fantasy franchise. Hollywood has been in need of a spanking for a long time and it's coming on Dec 19th. George Lucas take notes.
B+ at Best

I'll give it a B+. The movie looks like it's faithful to the comic book, but the action in the movie is way too CGI-especially where the Green Goblin is concerned. As I've said before, he really needs to be covered in a cloak/cape like the books and looks too much like a Power Ranger villian. Every shot of him in this trailer was CGI'ed and it looked it. (Maybe some fine-tuning is in store before it makes it to the movie in May) Spiderman looks great swinging in the sky (obviously CGI) but it's fantasically edited to when he lands on a building, rooftop, and/or car it's a real person. Toby MaGuire is perfect in the role and so is Kirstin Dunst as Mary Jane (wait 'til you see the scene of her in the rain!). I think the movie will be better than, say, the Batman movies but as far as being the Summer blockbuster? I think that will go to Episode II. I think as far as box office is concerned AOTC will be #1, Spiderman #2, and Men in Black 2 #3.

How do you work out the name of the filename? I tried it with m480 at the end, but now they're using mm480? How do you find out what the actual filename is?
Sorry, but Lord of the Rings.....

Looks like without a doubt one of the most boring fucking movies ever. Christ, I fell asleep during the preview, it was 2 minutes! The Spidey trailer was good, fuck every single one of you.

Anyone who saw that incredible trailer and starts nitpicking the CGI is a bitter, angry loser -- this is why the film companies start to ignore fanboys. JUST ADMIT IT: it looks COOL. Why is that so hard to say? Why must everyone constantly be like, "you raped my childhood"? You're so emotionally damaged that you must have been raped DURING childhood. Open your mind and heart and take a deep breath. Freaks.

The first music was the same music in the x-men trailers. The danger music is from a group calle POSTHUMUS.

Well Yeah I know Spidey isn't suppose to be Superman Buff.. but I dunno the body in costume still looks kinda chubby... spidey has a definate physique.. liek if just saw a shadow of it you'd recognize it... but in the movie it's a bit off.. I think..
