Too respond to the Southern Crane's comments on the I Spy shoot today. First of all any respectable amatuer film critic would know you can not evaluate the content of a film by observing one day of fragmented scenes. I was there too, but I know the contest of the scenes as they relate to the script. In light of what will be added CGI, the scenes today were great!! Eddy Murphy was acting with co-stars that were not even present on the set. He interacted with other characters that won't be added until later. Knowing what was being done. He did an excellent job today. In the end no one will believe he interacted so well with actors that weren't even present on the set today. His character wasn't supposed to be druged he was in another totally different situation. You will have to wait until the movie because you won't cause me to break my confidentiality agreement due to Southern Crane's dumb ass remarks!

Betty Thomas is the director. She was also in "Tunnel Vision" as a semi nude contestant. She has a nice, but small, pair of bodacious ta-ta's. This movie will stink to high heaven. I'm waiting for the $50 million dollar big screen adaptation of "He's Dickens...I'm Fenster!" with Pauley Shorr and Carrot Top. Whoo-hoo!
why do you have tape on your nose?...exactly.

The key element the detractors are forgetting is the presence of Owen Wilson, one of the funniest people in Hollywood in these days when rarely a laugh exits my mouth in a movie theater (usually vomit at most flicks). His improvs are the high point of most movies he's in (see Armageddon). And Mr. Murphy, well...more of a fan of his earlier work, but he could be capable of rising to the occasion. Plus I Spy was a great show but that's 'cuz Bill Cosby is unfuckwithable. It's like that now.

All shots look boring when they are laying them down. I hate to break it to anybody who still has delusions about what it's like to be on set but it's not exciting unless you are getting guided tours by people (right, Harry?). Extras work and don't get told anything, IATSE guys are working (and regardless of what you may think, it's hard work), and you hardly ever see a director until it's time to try and get a shot. The magic of the film making industry is that they make boring shit like this look interesting when it's shown in the theatre. Seriously, ask to sit in on a rush session sometime and try to figure out why people are excited about what they are watching.
OWEN WILSON...BREAK ON THROUGH

Is it just me or is Owen Wilson getting "the big push" lately. And a well-deserved push it is. It was evident way back in Armageddon that this guy was a stand-out. Loved him in Shanghai Poon...oops..that's the porn version- I meant Shanghai Noon. Dug him immensley in Meet The Parents. I see good things for him. And if Betty Thomas is directing?...fuhgettaboutit! This is the woman who made Howard Stern somewhat acceptable. My only worry is Eddie Murphy. Why do they keep digging up this guy? He peaked in the 80's 'Nuff said.

Enquiring minds want to know. I agree that Madonna is no substitute for Eddie Murphy but there must have been something else.

Entertainment Tonight reported a rumor that Russell Crowe is in talks to star as Col. Hogan. I wonder if they can get Schwarzenegger to play Sgt. Schultz, Jeremy Irons to play Col Klink, Michael Clark Duncan to play Kinch, Hugh Grant to play Newkirk, Jim Carry to play Carter, Jean Reno to play LeBeau and, of course, Lucy Liu as Klink's Secretary?
murphy can still phone in a brilliant performance

witness: bowfinger. i thought that movie was criz-ap, but murphy's work (on BOTH roles) was phenomenal and hilarious. i love the cos., but the cos. is basically always himself (like a really funny uncle), whereas murphy is a gifted character actor. i agree that he doesn't care anymore, but that don't mean he ain't still got the chops. also, his work on "the p.j.'s" (an overlooked show) was great! in addition, i (like i think many people on this site) am an ENORMOUS owen wilson fan. i'm not sure i'm 100% pleased with his moving into total mainstream lead actor work (like this and "behind enemy lines," although "shanghai noon" is a positive exception), but i will still and probably always see him in anything he's in. unfortunately, i live in japan, so i will miss the chance to see "tenenbaums" on the big screen. as far as "i spy" is concerned, i must reserve my judgement, as i have basically no information to go on right now (but i think murphy, wilson, and thomas are all pluses). why did i even bother to post? i don't give a rat's testicle...
names are mixed up on purpose?

why are the names backwards? in the show, culp was robinson, but now murphy is robinson? culp was a tennis pro, cosby his trainer.

actually, oddly enough, the roles are racially reversed in the movie. wilson plays cosby's role, and murphy plays culp's. you can read about it at www.upcomingmovies.com if you so desire.

This "spy" mentioned two things that I think you overlooked. Quoting from the article Harry posted: "Now this scene may tell us nothing about the actual film, but if this is any indication, I think I SPY will be a turd patty. "- (and another quote:) "And of course, things will be editted, sounds added, pacing, trimming, whatever. It will look better in the film." Sounds to me like he's giving this movie benefit of the doubt. I agree with some of the other posts, that it sounds like Owen Wilson will help this picture, at least.
your spy? spys at least get some info right?

this guy is an idiot and harry is for putting this sh*t up. quote - I haven't read a script, I don't know, I guess this scene may tell us nothing... I was there also as far as Eddie Murphy looking bored to me it looked like two things a, he was working very hard and being very proffesional and b, he was avoiding eye contact with idiots like southern crane. the fight scenes are awesome and apparently choreographed by the guy who did Ali. Eddie plays Kelly Robinson and his opponent Cedric Mills is played by Darren Shahlavi who was in Bloodmoon ( along with Drive, the best martial arts film not made in Hong Kong)Shahlavi always kicks major ass, and it's good to see him moving into A list pictures. I was there for four days not three and what I saw was very impressive with Murphy doing everything himself apart form when some hard body punches were thrown close up. Shahlavi also took some hard shots to the head from Murphy who had to be talked into hitting for real and took some good shots for real also, this scene will rock and the end of the film will surprise. there was a guy on set who gave us lots of info Richard first assistant I think, obviously southern cranes ears were plugged tighter than his ass.

So I made a judgement based on some firsthand exposure to something that would be editted later. I thought I said that already! Maybe this movie will turn out allright. You have your hopes up? That's okay too. Yes, extras don't get to know everything that's going on. And I was misinformed about several details. I just wasn't impressed by one person's performance, when everyone else seemed to be doing the dirty work. I just wrote about seeing a few days of shooting for a few minutes of this movie. It wasn't meant to be a review of the finished product, but like I say "If this is any indication..." Some of what I saw looked okay, I was just focusing on this one day and this one scene that required so much attention.
OK, OK, now I take it ALL BACK!! IF YOU'VE READ THE ARTICLE

I just spent about an hour talking about this with a friend who is working on this project, and he asked me what the f**k I was thinking after he read this article. I will say very little, but much was explained to me about what's going on in this scene I described ( poorly )to Harry. I got more things wrong than right. If I could sum up the conversation in really vague terms, "this will be its own movie." Remember what everyone thought Charlie's Angels was going to be like before we actually got to see it? And this won't be Charlie's Angels, either! And hey, I'd even apologize to Mr. Murphy after knowing a bit about what he was trying to do in this one scene. There are reasons for his actions- which I totally misinterpreted. And i totally left out what was going on previous days... there were some surprises, to say the least. I will say this ( although it's a piss-poor excuse): that I will never come home drunk after a day at a shoot again. Make up your own mind when you get to see I SPY in theaters....( I now retreat with tail between legs). Consider this "Spy report" null and void.
