She's one of the only people on this show who can actually act, and they've been waisting her all season! Nice to know she's back in the spotlight, hopefully they've realized their mistake.

"jumped the shark" just an excuse to project

at first i thought "jumping the shark" was a clever idea. there certainly is a point when a show goes bad and in some shows it's very evident. but in other's (the ones that, sorry, but they haven't jumped no matter how much you hate them) people's "it jumped the shark when..."s are invalid. jumping the shark is a finite point. if it really had jumped, you'd be able to put your finger on exactly when. like in happy days, when fonzie jumped over a sharks tank on his motorcycle. if a show isn't good anymore and it just gradually got that way, there was no jumping of the shark. "jump the shark" has become nothing more than a way for people to force their opinion no matter how invalid because it's backed by a "theory" and at the same time sound like you've got your finger on the pulse of some hip new trend. "jump the shark" jumped the shark when people started abusing it to make their own picks GOSPEL.
M&M's break-uppage

1. Poor Michael. Word on the staying on the planet for her. Granted he hasn't been the most bestest boyfriend in the world, but he's been about as good a boyfriend as she has a girlfriend, and they're both pretty damn good considering their, oh, two inexperienced seventeen year olds with severe some emotional baggage on a melodramatic teen dramady, in the first actual relationship either of them has been in. 2. Don't worry. This is just a cheap plot device to stir up angst. They'll be smooching in the next ep, I'd bet my eyes on it. And I might just actually drop my jaw in shock if their break-up lasts longer than two episodes. Just ignore the pain of their break-up and revel in the fact that Maria is getting an actual storyline and Michael is being promoted from Max's quipping sidekick to Maria's jealous boyfriend. He's slipped this season, hasn't he?
This is character development, Smallville take notes

As everyone who follows this show knows the first season was all about character develplment. The second was about developing the sci-fi, which many felt hurt the characters-me I didn't. This season is about the successful merging of the first two seasons. This episode we got to see a big part of that "new development". That being of the parents w/Mr.Evans leading the charge. And oh how nice it was to see a Maria story! What Smallville needs to move away from, EntWkly eludes it will, is the kryptovillan of the week. Roswells first season introduced and moved our charactes along. If its guilty of a supposed weekly theme it was,"How can we hide our secret from the nosey Sheriff Valenti". The difference here and our kryptovillan is character development was happening. The leading thing I can think of in Smallville is the X-ray vision&lead helps dimminsh the 'big K'. Only 2 real developments in 8 episodes. UPN is finally doing next week what I think will help the uninitiated. The first episode airs next week. I can only hope the other season one eps show as reruns. If your casually reading/viewing Roswell you need to watch these. The true raw story unfolds in the first half of the season. Can't wait for the Christmas Nazi and New Years Eve episodes. Long live Roswell

This show's based on those "pre-teen" books by Melinda Metz... I shot through the first book during the first season because I was curious to see where they got the idea for the show, etc... Eh- Well, I'm not a pre-teen anymore, so maybe that's why I didn't like the book. Any of you Roswell fans read those books? I'm not sure how many there are, but I know there was more than one... Just wondering.

OK, in last season's finale, I seem to recall that thing going off a cliff in a giant ball of flame. Now, in this ep, when it is pulled up, it appears barely even damaged, and the spare tire is still there? Must be a REALLY resilient jeep. That glaring flaw aside, very good ep, cuz Majandra ROX! And she has an album out? Hmmm

You just articulated something that I'd been thinking for a long time. I think that there should be a 3 year rule about 'jumping the shark' pronouncements. No one can comment on when they think a show 'jumped the shark' until 3 years after the show finishes. Otherwise it often just boils down to 'I don't like this show quite as much as I used to.', 'I didn't like that episode much', or 'I don't see how they're going to top what they did last week'. All shows go through ups and down, and it would be weird if they didn't.

I'm interested in knowing when people believe X-Files jumped the shark. Clearly the show is on its last legs (regardless of how good a job Robert Patrick is doing), but there's just so many places to point the finger. BTW, the theatrical film doesn't count. I think killing off CSM was a big mistake, but I'm sure there are many who felt "the shark" was way before that. ** And to think on a recent Roswell talkback I was criticizing the producers for not giving us enough Maria. This was almost too much to handle! She needs her own show. Let her leave Michael and move to Greenwich Village with Grunge-Boy (was that dude a traveller from 1993? Get a shave, buddy), and they can spin-off a grittier version of Felicity...but with MUSIC. Every week Maria will debut a new alien-themed song about her adventures. But the show needs to be called "Majandra". You know it's a hit. On a serious note, the Maria thing alarms me because it does give them an out in case she leaves at the end of this season. The above poster was right about Michael slipping into the background this season. Hopefully the breakup will be the impetus for some much-needed character development. *** Last thing...no one (including Herc) mentioned that Jonathan "Riker" Frakes directed this episode. Welcome back, Number One!

This episode ROCKED! It's a shame that so many people are watching such an inferior product that is Smallville and missing some great intrigue and character development on Roswell which is getting better with every episode.
Absolutely Brilliant!!!

By far the best Roswell episode of the season. 3 stars? What the hell? 4 and 1/2 at least, just because of how brilliant an actress Majandra is. That scene where she sang for the first time after Alex's death was so moving. The last time I can remember being that affected by a scene in a tv show was "The Body." Herc, if you're gonna continue to be prejudiced against this awesome show let someone else review it, you stick to drooling over Buffy.

This episode is perfect, because it brings to light what it is to be human. About the sacrifices they made to be with and protect the one's they love. It shows what they gave up in order to love these beings, and in this episode it also reminds us that these aliens are half human and also have feelings too. We all know that Maria and Micheal will get back together, because it was meant to be, StarCrossedLovers. Plus they can't let a new girlfriend for Micheal in on their little secret, can they? I hope Max,Isabel, and Micheal let the Evan's parents in on it, because it's really tearing apart what use to be a happy family. The parent's are in danger whether Max tells them or not,I mean think about it if an alien wanted to get to the hybrids the best way is by putting someone they love in peril to get them to do what the alien wants them to do. It would also be interesting to see how the parentals would react and go about this new revelation. Plus it's just wrong to lie to your parents, dammit(sarcasm).LONG LIVE ROSWELL, welcome back Mr. Frake's.

This is RATINGS, Roswell take note...

Once again, Smallville beat the hell out of Roswell last night... Personally I could give a rat's ass about ratings (give ME one of those damn Neilson boxes!) but we all know the tv studio's do, so maybe you guys outta start a letter campaign or something.. I dunno. Personally, I can't get into Roswell at all, but the actress who play's Maria is awesome... best cast member in my opinion! If this show tanks, give her her own show!
There all great actors!

Everyone in this show is an awesome actor considering the roles they play, the only reason why Maria stands out is because her supporting role as a sometimes comedic relief not to say thats her entire role, because she's really an all around role type like alot of them on the show. Max,Isabel,Micheal,Tess,Alex,L iz,Maria,Kyle, and Sheriff Valenti were all character driven role's played by really great actor's unlike smallvilles 2-dimensional actors, except Lex and the Kent parent's. The only reason's why smallvilles rating's are doing better is because of the built in fanbase, audience's hoping that the show will get better, and because of people who need stand alone episodes that would go crazy if there was continuity and happened to miss an episode and then be lost. Like with ROSWELL if you watch one episode of course your not gonna get it this show is a story line that has continued since season 1, which is a good thing. With ROSWELL you have to stick with it because it is a show that grows with every episode, like real life, your life doesn't stay the same and neither do you, it changes over time, it's called evolution but on a much smaller scale. If smallvilles ratings start to go up and the show doesn't get better then on goes the dumbing up of television. I mean 24 is an awsome show too and look what it's networks are saying about the ratings not being high enough. We are going to lose good show's in favor of show's that make t.v. truly an idiot box. I'm a huge superman fan, but honestly does that show even some what remind you of the Superman we all know and love, no it doesn't, they screwed him up like they did Batman. ROSWELL is one of the best show's I've ever seen in my life, it just needs to let new audiences know that you have to watch this in continuity to understand it. Down with smallville! Long Live ROSWELL!
About those ratings
by parnellbc

While its true the ratings are far from superb they are not significantly up or down from last year. I belive the scrutiny lies in two areas 1)A ratings winner like Buffy as a lead 2)Obvious competition w/similar theme in Smallville. Roswell did see a slight rankings increase last week and I'll be curious to see how this weeks did. Smallville seems to have already disenchanted a number of folks and we may start to see that in the ratings. Also UPN needs to see how the repeats of the first season due against Smallivlle reruns. I tend to agree w/those who believe that come year end the ratings between these two will be more even than the first leg of this "competition" has been. Long Live Roswell.
This Weeks Numbers

I'm not sure exactly how to read these numbers (is it millions of people? households? ???) but here's how these shows did tuesday: Roswell 2.7/4 (same as last week)... Smallville 5.9/8 (up a little from last week)... and 24 got (for comparisons sake)5.9/9 (up from last week)... Then you go and look at the number one show on tues night at this time and you got: Frasier 11.3/17 !!! Don't know exactly what that all means- but i dug it up anyways!

The next episode is where Mulder shows up in a never-before-tried crossover between Fox and Warner Brothers. Cigarette Smoking Man kidnaps a new hot alien high-school girl, and makes her smoke his pole. When she's almost done, he pushes her back so he can go for the money shot on her face...and it's Black Oil! Then Mulder shows up, wearing glasses and a schoolboy uniform, sticks his hand in CSM's ass and pulls out the Sorcerer's Gallstone.
