there's a very good reason why guy pearce didn't play daredevil - because he was born to play doctor strange, man! pit him against paul bettany, stuart wilson or timothy dalton as baron mordo! give it a cool-ass bohemian '50s manhattan feel! fill it to the brim with some seriously spooky shit (which guillermo obviously knows how to do), and you're making money! back on topic, very glad that 'blade 2' kicks ass...and gruesomely too. because what the world needs now is blood, sweet blood. you know it makes sense.

For years superhero movies were either half-ass or totally whack (Superman was okay but then again I was like 7 when I saw it for the first time. X-MEN was garbage, every Batman movie with the exception of the first one was lame and I won't even go there about the Punisher-Okay The Crow was decent but Spawn was terrible! And Miss Cleo told me that Daredevil will be whack as well as Hulk)that is until Wesley showed 'em how it's done. I just pray Spidey is good but after seeing the 2 clips I have my doubts. Blade baby yeah!

...while I respect the guy and his acting he always seems out of place in whatever movie he's in (aside from city of lost children). I just can't imagine him as an a@@-kicking vampire. Isn't Kris Kristofferson in this one too? Another guy that sticks out like a sore thumb. Who did the casting in this?

Ron Perlman not able to kick a**? I think not! Seen Alien Resurrection, or Cronos? A** - kicking much! A great villain! The man has immense talent, could act the rest of the cast off the screen, and it's about time the Big Guy was offered another decent film. He's wasted in the industry, and he's 100% A-list material! Shame I have to wait until August when B2 is shown here in the UK ... HRC

Perlman and Kristoferson(sp?)are good actors, however they do manage to seem out of place in most movies save for Perlman in (City of Lost Children and Beauty and the Beast) & Kristoferson in (Cisco Pike). Definitely odd casting choices. Who's next Karen Black, or maybe John Rhyes Davies(sp?), or the husband from The hand that rocks the cradle, or John Ritter, Loraine Brocco, Leonard Nimoy. Also, always though Stephen Dorf came across as a spoiled little wimp/punk who probably couldn't kick my mom's ass. Definitely not a formidable foe for Snipes in a roll that he was made for. Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke, Omar Epps, Bokeem Woodbine, Jared Leto, Loren Dean, Marlon Wayans(Trust me this guy can act if given the opportunity, just get him away from his talentless brothers)or if you wanted to go a little older and even Steve Buscemi(sp) might have been better choices for ambitious young vampires bent on world domination. Snipes, a good actor in his own right, kinda comes across as somewhat annoying in other action films. Also, his martial arts skills(from a martial artists standpoint he deserves his black belt about as much as Elvis did)which usually aren't all that were crisp in the first one, so let's hope he keeps up the good work. Unusual casting choices aside this sounds like it's on the right track. btw. Enough with the comic-to-film, popular animated series-to-film, classic(and not so classic)sitcom-to-film crap though. Someone needs to cast Talk Soup's Aisha Tyler in a film. Definite potential there. Obscure film reference of the day: "Check your parimeters! Check your Parimeters! Check-your P-a-r-i-meterrrrrssss!" Anyone know that one?
Ron Perlman is the perfect choice for Hellboy!!

I think the only contribution Vin Diesel should make to Hellboy is his gravel voice. I don't care what anybody says, Vin Diesel has a voice that just exudes power. It practically makes walls rumble. That's awesome! But no one embodies Hellboy more than Ron Perlman. He's got the stature, sense of humor and strength that Mike Mignola created in Hellboy. Plus Ron Perlman is capable of expressing fear while maintaining his strength and confidence (something Hellboy has done when faced with foes such as Rasputin). I pretty much liked the first Blade because it wasn't treated like some 3rd-rate PG-13 piece of pre-teen shit. It was an adult film complete with adult language and a film noir-like hero that was just as dark as the villians he destroyed. I appreciated the fact that a comic adaptation was tailored to an adult audience so much that I was willing to overlook the horrible SFX, terrible dialogue and incredibly annoying fish-out-of-water character. I overlooked these disadvantages then but I won't now. They took a risk making Blade and were rewarded for the trouble. now I expect more in the areas where the first one was lacking. fortunately it sounds as though they will meet my expectations. they got a credible horror director, dropped that pain in the ass doctor, mike mignola designs, wesley snipes reprising his greatest character and ron 'one' perlman. i can't wait. 'the crow' is still my favorite comic adaptation but here's to hoping that blade 2 knocks it down a spot.

What the hell is that? WHAT GOOD MATERIAL??? What good films has he been in??? A decade ago in Jungle Fever? For the last ten years he has been crapping out clunkers like Murder at 1600 and Money Train and if it wasn't for Blade his ass would be right next to Van Damme and Seagel in the straight to video pile. Fact is Blade was a slickly written compact little action film that hit all the right buttons. It had cool FX and actual imagery in the direction and some decent acting. If only Ahnuld could put that together but judging from Art of War its not as easy at it looks. If they keep the formula right (and adding Donnie Yen is a BIG PLUS) then this film should be fine. I know I await it more than bland action movie 37d114 aka Spy Games, Bourne Identity...etc etc etc. As far as nit picking stuff in fantasy films, it doesn't even pay to go there cause every director from Lucas to Coppola has screwed the realism pooch a million times. The world you're watching ESPECIALLY IN A COMIC FILM is not your own! So either enjoy that fact or leave the genre and watch other films. But it doesn't pay to criticize that which you don't understand.
Blade was very much the director's vision...
by Wesley Snipes
Nov 21st, 2001

It seemed quite clear from the DVD and just watching the film itself that Blade was largely one man's vision. From the overall visual style to the little things like the tats, japanese schoolgirls, and rave atmosphere, there was a kind of unified vision there. So while it sucks that they aren't bringing back Stephen Norrington for the sequel (why the heck wasn't he even interviewed on the DVD?!), it's nice to see they've hired another director with a strong vision to put together the sequel.

((SPOILERS))!!!....There were some minor complaints that I had at the beginning of the movie (why does it have to be set in Prague?) but by the time Blade started killing motorcycle vamps with that spinning disc thingy... everything was alright! The Reapers are the scariest things out there, they have a mouth that splits apart from the chin and an extending tongue that drains the blood out of anything that gets in it's way! The Bloodpack really WERE a bunch of badasses who just ooze coolness... especially Ron Perlman. The chick who plays Nyssa (daughter of Damiskinos and leader of the pack) is a total hottie!!! The fight scenes at the techno dance club were FUCKING SCARY!!! We get to see a nasty Reaper autopsy (loads of slick gore in this movie) and we get to see Blade kill things. It kicks MAJOR ASS!!!! Oh... and the big hunt in the sewers of Prague was like something out of Aliens.
Casting Choices....
by MadMags
Nov 21st, 2001

Okay, I'm probably inviting someone to slam me but I have to say it. I find it interesting that comments are made about Ron Perlman(IMHO one of the best actors in the business, and highly underappreciated by the powers that be) and Kris Kristofferson seeming out of place in the same breath that their work is praised. Stop and consider that they may be cast simply because they don't fit the norm and there are some directors out there that understand that there are people in pretty much every situation and environment in the world who seem out of place. Yet they're there. Personally, I'd rather see a movie where the cast is veried and different, and some folks seem to stick out, especially when it means getting to see the talent these two actors put forth on a consistant basis. I've seen both take mediocre scripts and make them enjoyable. That takes talent. And when given a truly magnificent script to work with the end result is nothing short of magic. Here's hoping that Blade 2 falls into that category and maybe wakes up TPTB to the potential held in casting Ron as Hellboy, or casting him or Kris as leading men.

You know...I think Soul Sucking Jerk is on to something. I mean doesn't the Power Rangers longevity suggest that they are something born of the undead? I would just love to see Blade in a third movie take on the Power Rangers! Maybe Blade could be enough of a force to finally put a resounding deathblow on that sad throwback of a show to the early 90's that just won't die. I'm not usually one for excessively gory movies but I do make exeptions to those that are well written. I don't see a movie just to see uninhibitted violence. It has to make sense to me. There has to be a purpose as to why the characters react that strongly. And Blade 2 looks to be in that vein (forgive my bad pun!) that I will tolerate because the violence makes a little bit of sense in a quasi realistic logical way.

Well actually the Theater is located in El Segundo. This review is not bogus. I was at this screening as well and let me tell you all, that this movie is so much better than the original. More Gore, More Action, More Gore. Did I mention there was more Gore. Unfortunately though something tells me that when the MPAA gets a hold of it that the gore will be toned down a bit. Whoever came up with the concept for the Reapers should be commended, theses things are scary. and for those of you asking why Blade would help vampires to kill the Reapers it is simply that; Reapers feed off of Vampires or Humans. Reapers can not process Hemoglobin and must feed every few hours. Meaning that in a matter of a couple of day there can be thousands of Reapers from just one original Reaper. They could take over the world in less than a month. Kind of scary isn't it. And guys, just cause someone accidently puts down the wrong town name in a review dont jump on him. At pacific theaters one side is El Segundo one side is Manhatten Beach and a block away Redondo Beach Starts. Oh and one more thing. I loved that this movie was set in the Checzh Republic. Its very fitting when you think of it. It is the home of Dracula.

I'm a regualr guy who saw a really great movie and loved every minute of it. Okay,... maybe not every minute, there were some problems and every movie has it's flaws. (spoilers)---- For one, they never explain how Whistler survived the gunshot wound. Blade grabs this one Vamp and uses him as a human sheild (gets him all riddled and bloody) then he forces some information out of him. The Vamp tells him -- "He shot himself... we just kept him alive!" (refering to Whister) -- and that was it! No reason is given as to how or why Whistler survived the gunshot wound (maybe Blade accidentally loaded his machine gun with regular ammo that day). Also, the character of Nomack (he's the carrier of the Reaper virus and the main villain) wasn't given enough screen time througout the movie! He's talked about like this big badass walking Armageddon and he only appears a few times during the course of the film (except for the big fight scene at the end). Aside from a few minor complaints... THE MOVIE DID DELIVER!!! I loved the look of the Bloodpack. That guy who played Vince in 'The Fast and the Furious' had two gold fangs that made him look like a trendy gangsta vampire... it was so out there! Also, the action scenes were so much fun!!! I loved it.

Dr.(?)Pecos, your site serves as a stoic example as to why film should be taken in moderation. Especially when based on a comic book...about vampires. The first film was entertaining on some levels, but basically was a Hollywood formula. If you enjoyed it, fine. When I watched it, I kept thinking how this film could be great. This was a film that didn't need the daywalker, superpowered vampire ending. It reeked of the typical big finally/Hollywood hack pinch. Hopefully everyone knows what a pinch is in a film. Wesley was a choice I wouldn't have made, but for me he was Blade. I will say the beginning sequence in the club, where he destroys everyone, was the kind of action/gore that made that movie enjoyable. Having a human character experience the horrors of the vampires made the movie frightening at that point. Did it really need to escalate beyond that level in action? Not really. It should have told a more realistic storyline and gave us characters that were less one-sided. Not that Bram Stoker's Dracula is a four star film (due to casting), but at least we see a complex vampire. For pure evil, Dracula does well at expressing love for example. Sure, I too want the action and the gore, but give us a story above all else. Otherwise, you might as well cast Jean-Claude Van Damme. He kicks everybody ass just as well as the next guy.
Blade 2

Just to add my thoughts on Blade 2. Loved this film. For numerous reasons. It had one of the best opening scenes ever. That rave track in the club "Confusion" by New Order. What a tune. here we see today's vampire youth as it were in a shit hot jumping club. Man, just to be a vampire so as to hang with these boys and girls. I'd have a blast. This movie is very popular in Ireland and Great Britain (comrised of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Thankfully N. Ireland is learning to rule herself). This film for me oozes cool. It was also a fun movie. Okay, the very average dialogue distracted slightly. The action sequences were highly entertaining, Snipes kicks ass. The special effects were poor, especially with the vampire skeletons. All in all I'd give a big thumbs up for entertaining escapism.

You guys have issues!!! Just how productive is it to insult eachother? I do agree about posting here if you didn't like the first movie- unless you have something valid to say. But if your motivation is to pick fights, that's really weak. Anyway, the first Blade movie works so well for me because of one very important thing- no comic relief! There's no silly side-kick, no goofy plush CGI animal, no lame unfunny jokes, etc. That's a mistake/flaw that Hollywood seems to keep making along with the "love interest" bullshit. Blade seemed altogether un-Hollywood. It was dark, mean, and had great action sequences. And although the "Blood God" ending was a little weak, the alternative Cthulu (spelling?)Blood God ending (on the DVD) was really silly. I liked it a lot, and I'm really looking forward to the sequel. I hope it's at least as good. Just my opinion. Try not to flame me!!! Talk to ya.

BLADE 2 fight scenes and more...

The fight scenes were decent althought the final confrontation wasn't nearly as intense as the Deacon/Blade sword battle from the original! They weren't too choppy - no Ridley Scott GLADIATOR camera moves - but they did use a lot of CGI mixed in with the live action. For example, there is one scene where Blade is fighting one of the "badass ninjas" and does this incredible flip move by kicking himself off the ground and running up a wall, that was mostly CGI. It wasn't too distracting though and the movie thankfully didn't use ANY FUCKING BULLET TIME!!! Donnie Yen was hardly in the movie and actually had more screen time in HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME. He did get to participate in one of the more gruesome Reaper sequences......... He impales one of the creatures to a wall only to witness it's escape by crawling upward against the wall and ripping itself free from the stomach down... Gross! The movie isn't highbrow entertainment but it is entertaining. Del Toro has created a worthy sequel with BLADE 2 and I can't wait to see it again.
when's the release date?

Why post this useless review in the left column and leave it there for so long? Any other reader review is thrown into the right column where it quickly is drowned in a sea of useless stories.

folks i am sorry to inform u. Balde 2 sucked major ass. When blade fought the vampire ninjas, totally lame. the cgi was just alittle to cartoonish. And the vampire headquaters looked like something out of superman 3 movie with the fukin gay women robot. The blood pack "the gang of vampires trained to kill blade" was so lame. They gave them soo much props but yet they got killed by the reapers in 2 seconds. and blade had a love interest wit a fukin vampire how gay. his mother died at the hands of one, and blade over here is offering this bitch some of his blood. my god

this is a spoiler. come on now. everyone knows how stronge the sword of blade is. like in the first one where deacon frost complements the sword just like the vampires in the second blade movie. so this is what happened. Blade is tied down to a labortory desk, spiked with blades (goldfiger) all over his arms and legs, whistler fuks up the tall vampire in the room and comes to blades rescue with blades sword in hand. so as they are escaping theyare spotted and shot act. there is giantic pool of blood filtering throughout the vampire building and blade jumps in. once he gets out his wounds are gone and ready to kick some ass. and he did. so then he meets with nomack the first adn strongest reaper. blade flyies in air and stabs nomack in the heart, then nomack without hesitation breaks the sword. i fukin could not believe it. U know when superman died and people thought that superman could die well that is how i felt when the sword was broke.
