Hey everyone, probably old news, but thought it was worth restating. The new B&B sequence was originally intended for the movie but was replaced (sort of) with "Be Our Guest." My thoughts; it wasn't in the original for a reason!!! And the animation looked like the new straight-to-video garbage. And, Harry, I totally agree! Don't mess with a best picture nom! Believe it or not, we don't need a gimmick to get us into the theater to see great, classic Disney movies! Just play the movie, we will come! My two cents.

Although this song was indeed intended for the original version, it was replaced by the song "Something There." This version has BOTH, so... it's still not what was originally intended. By the way.... this version was completed several years ago. Why has Disney been sitting on it until now...?

While I haven't seen the movie, I have heard the song. (from the Rice/Menkin Disney CD set a few years back) My heart sunk the moment I heard they had put it back in, because the song is *really* boring. And on the CD, it goes on for, like, 7 minutes, without adding more than the slightest bit to the plot. I'm guessing in this new IMax version, it's a show-stopper in the worst way.

why can't the reviewers who actually DO use poor English also apologize in advance? Just a thought...

Uh, what am I seventh? I don't care. Traditional animation kicks ass, too bad that it's going to become obsolete by the Shreks, and Toy Stories of the world.

While generally I would agree with that statement, especially in light of what Spielberg is doing to E.T., there is one Best Picture nominee that has been retooled for the best, shooting it directly into my top 5 of all time: APOCALYPSE NOW. Coppola made Redux so much deeper than the original. Everyone else should keep their filthy mitts off of their own damn movies.

I hate changes in my favorite films.

While I think its great that they are releasing one of their true classics in the IMAX format ('Fantasia 2000' was stunning to look at in IMAX), why do they have to put in an additional musical number? I seriously doubt that "Beauty and the Beast" needed any additions to get people in to see it again. The film was fine the way it was ten years ago. Fucking Disney. Hey, instead of messing up films that were fine to begin with, why don't you retool pieces of shit like "Atlantis" and "Pocahontas"? Burning the negatives of those two would be a good start.

Yet she's still better then most people who post on this site. As far as B & B goes, the above poster is right, the Human song sucks the balls off of a brass monkey, and if the animation is straight-to-video quality, then what the hell is the point. At least Spielberg always felt the gun scene didn't belong, he didn't decide this recently. Fucking Disney, I can't wait til Pixar seperates from them.
It's just a movie -and a great one at that!

Okay, "Shrek" was great, "Atlantis" was not. And I agree that overall, Disney has been lacking inspiration and not daring much these past years, making it feel like it's run by businessmen who know a lot about marketing and little about art. Still, it's becoming so trendy to systematically criticize the Mouse House. You know what? I loved "Beauty and the Beast", and am very happy that this extra scene is seeing the light of day! Since we'll get both versions on the Fall 2002 DVD, anyone can pick their favorite. At least we have a choice!

Sure, sure, we all hate to see people mess with the classics. Beauty and the Beast is CERTAINLY on par with the old-school masterpieces like Pinocchio, and I can understand why people would want to leave it just as it was. But to me, any opportunity to see that gorgeous animation, just the indescribable power that Disney has to bring pictures to life in the smooth, dynamic American and French style is a breath of fresh air in a world full of static, choppy, poorly-drawn-yet-somehow-unive rsally-loved Anime.

The DVD is going to feature three versions: the film with the additional sequence, without the sequence, and the original pencil-test version. Any way you see it, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is STILL one of the BEST damn movies EVER made. It is a classic and you cannot kill it; it is immortal.
