Why some people only come here to moan and carp every show on air? If you don't have something constructive to add and share with others please just shut up and go to your room and play with your other hand.

First as in First Graders(and good premiere)

GROW THE HELL UP! As for Roswell, nice premiere. It seemed to forget that last season said space travel isn't possible without taking a loooooooong time, but that always sounded limiting anyway(scientifically accurate, but limiting). So I look forward to the new season. Too early to say anything else. But who was that playing Liz's mom?

I know Roswell isn't high art, like the West Wing, or as amazing as Buffy (my number one favorite show of all time), but it's fun and I like it. I watched it fairly regularly seasons one and two, and if the premiere is anything to go by, will continue to do so now. I always was a sucker for meant-to-be kind of romances. Real life isn't exactly overflowing with love of a lifetime stuff, so I can't resist the Max/Liz thing. It's sexy and romantic, which you don't find to often on TV. Since Angel and Buffy are sadly fated to be apart by the cruel capatilist society in which we live (and a handful of networks that seem to be run by babies), Roswell is as good as it's going to get on the true love front. I really hope they keep the two of them together, or at least in love. I hated the Tess plot- and her character- and I'm really pleased to see the show go in more of a relationship direction. I like that Michael and Maria are together, too. She's funny and they make a really good couple. The show definately needs whatever humor it can get. After all, a girl can only take so many spaceships and shapeshifters and blah blah blah. I got bored with all the sci-fi. But all in all, I do like this show. The characters are pretty hot, and they have good chemistry. If they just keep in this direction, I will be a loyal viewer.
So why didn't Max just melt the tires of the cop cars?

Melted Tires

Max couldn't melt the tires because unless the Utah Police Department buy's it's tires from Firestone, tires don't just melt for no reason especially in the desert at night, when it's cool. Too many cops were after them and if every cop's tires melted for no reason, that would have raised too many questions and they don't need people making inquiries anymore. That's what started the Agent Pierce mess in the first place. Strange happenings and questions. True it could be said that they could have gotten away and all but they didn't know that, add the fact that they didn't know who called the cops on them, meaning that whatever or whoever it was could have followed them back to Roswell.
Still not back in the fold

I did not see the premiere. I stopped watching Roswell because it was too inconsistent, and changed its identity too often. I decided it wasn't worth the investment of time to see if it would live up to its original potential. I haven't heard or seen from previews anything that makes me think the show has FINALLY gotten it right. I had high hopes for the show, but they were blown. I understand why some of the cast is unenthusiastic about being back at work.
Have to partially agree with 1013nomore

I like Roswell, I do. I've been watching since the beginning and I'll probably continue to watch. That being said, it's pretty inconsistant. It's Max and Liz that's really bothering me. All this "Max broke her heart and now has to win her back". Let's jump back to the season 1 finale, shall we? Liz finds out that Max's destiny is with Tess. She runs out of the pod chamber. Next season, she's avoiding Max every chance she gets. There's the whole future Max fiasco (which, since Tess left, the future should still turn out with the fall of earth) which would send any guy running to another woman. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Max still thinks Liz did the deed with Kyle. Now they're back at their season 1 intensity and pulling a Bonnie and Clyde. Here's another question: why didn't Max just recruit the rest of the pod squad? Wouldn't it have been easier to rob a convenient store with 3 aliens than with 1 and a wannabe? They wouldn't have even needed weapons. And speaking of humans and aliens, shouldn't a big focus have been on Michael and Maria's new relationship? As far as we know, they're the first interspecies couple to have sex. The reason I'm complaining is because I like this show and I want it to do well. I hope they've found their footing this year, because I hate yelling at the television.

Max knew that she didn't sleep with Kyle. In the season finale last season she spilled the beans after she found out that he'd slept with Tess. He asked her point blank if she had and she said no. From the way he said it he always knew deep down that she didn't. Previously in the Harvest episode I think he questioned her about it and she didn't really give an precise answer so it's obvious that he had his doubts. --------------- As for Liz telling Max that he has to make it up to her he sure as hell does. Everyone keeps saying that Liz was the one that walked away, and yes she did but that was after an entire first season of Max TELLING her that they could never be together. Why is it that because she finally accepts that that people say that she's the one that left him. ---------------- As for the second season, she tried her best to let him follow his destiny, but it was Max who pursued her, serenading her and all that. It's not her fault that Future Max came back and told her that she had to make him fall out of love with her. She was doing EXACTLY what Max asked her to do. Should she have ignored him and gone on with a relationship and doomed the world just for a kiss and a feel? ----------------------- She did what she had to do to protect her friends and family, but still everyone dumps on her because she gave up Max. _---------------------- Max couldn't have told the others because 1. Isabel who never wanted to leave earth in the first place would have tried to talk them out of it. 2. Michael was the one who left the Granolith in the season finale because he WANTED to stay on earth with Maria. 3. It was his responsibility, he's the one that got in the trouble in the first place, so he's the one that should fix it. Better to have one alien in jail rather than 3. Give them all a break it's a new season at least wait until the 4th episode to start dissing the entire season.
Overnight ratings in --Roswell slaughtered

They did 3.5 million (approx.). Buffy did 5.5 million, Gilmore girls did 6.55 million. Undeclared on FOX beat them all with over 8 million (mostly men under 35). Doesn't bode well (sorry CherS). The WB and UPN want at least 4 million viewers. Damn shame what happened to this show last year with the politics. They may have squandered their chance, and with the cast being offered serious movie roles....(sigh). And you know I really liked the pilot.-----later-----m
About the End of the World

Um... I think the future in Roswell is wide open... because the future war that killed everybody was with the skins. In the original timeline Max and the crew never stopped the Harvest, so the Skins were still around 14 (?) years later. But after Liz and Max split, the Harvest was stopped, thus altering the timeline. So basically, the future is too diferent now for Liz and Max to worry amout the consequences of making smoochies. Man, I can't believe that's taking up valuable space in my brain.

Actually Roswell broke records for UPN in that timeslot. Although they sucked overall, those were the higest ratings that UPN ever had in that timeslot and higher still than Roswell's premiere on the WB last year.

Gilmore Girls Vs. Buffy

The WB was pissed at losing Buffy to UPN so they put their best show (Gilmore Girls) up against it. Girls wins week one! If GG could get noticed last season while being up against Friends and Survivor that proves it is a great show. Roswell seems to be better than season 2 but not a good as 1 based on the first episode. Where was the Sheriff (William Sadler)? He is one of the highlights of the show.

Well they did better for UPN, so that helps. However the show has internal problems. None of the actors were super-estatic about the pick-up (KH cut her hair to get rid of the blonde look, the men were doing a U2 video and Mel Gibson's Vietnam pic.) The writers are pumped: Ron Moore, Jason K., and the writers of the novels (who have returned after getting the boot years ago) all say they have fantastic ideas. But if the actors "phone it in" the writing can only go so far.-----later----m
