were you aware of the fact that tintin landed on the moon before armstrong, and yet, armstrong has a dozen movies made about him but none for tintin. i think it is time that we see some cool animated adventure action movies, not junks like titan a.e. and final fantasy:the spirits within.
Not one. Two

Actually there were two Tintin movies made. 'The Golden Fleece' and 'The Blue Oranges'. Both were made in the sixties. I remember seeing them at the local theatre in the mid-seventies, and thought they were pretty good. But I doubt that I'd feel the same today.
Fun stories, memorable characters...

...I grew up with Tintin comics so I know what I'm talking about. I remember seeing those live-action movies a long time ago, not sure if they aged well though. The makers of Final Fantasy should take a lesson from this: graphics alone do not make a movie, FUN characters and a GOOD story do.
Aw, yeah, the original tintin movie

Never seen it, but I just last week came across a book with pictures of the film. Looked like a lot of fun, but I could only read the pictures. But I'm glad I'm not the only one really wanting a Tintin movie, it being the greastest thing almost ever.

The Belgians dedicated their entire pavilion to Tintin. They had a life-size mock-up of the scene depicted on the cover of th' friggin' Tintin moon-landing! Goddamn that was great.... (*sigh*) There was also a PAL Tintin NES game that was halfway decent t'play too.... Or was that SNES. Damn.
not two, but four ...

Sure, as Clare Quilty pointed out, there were two 'live-action' TINTIN movies (and actually those were released in the early '60's), but there were also two animated feature films from the late '60's; a clumsy adaptation of THE SEVEN CRYSTAL BALLS / PRISONERS OF THE SUN albums (titled PRISONERS OF THE SUN), and an 'original' story titled TINTIN & THE LAKE OF SHARKS, (which adapted some of its plot from THE CALCULUS AFFAIR, along with random elements from other Tintin -- and even Jo & Zette -- stories). Both were made by the french studio Belvision, and each was technically well-animated, if a bit lacking in the Herge 'touch'.
Yeah, alright

You're right Droosan. I stand corrected. I agree with you, that some of the plot elements in "The Lake of Sharks" are 'borrowed' from "The Calculus Affair", but where does the Jo & Zette-connection fit in?

It's only my own observations, Clare Quilty, but the two Syldavian children who get caught up in the events of the film seem very evocative of Jo & Zette ... plus, the submersible sequences & Rastapoulos' underwater laboratory seem 'somewhat' inspired by similar elements in the JZ&J stories THE MANITOBA: NO REPLY and THE ERUPTION OF KARAMAKO (recently collected as THE SECRET RAY). It's purely speculation to say these elements were purposely 'adapted' specifically from these stories, but there's no denying Herge had used similar material in his slightly less-famous strip.
OK, I'll buy that one too

You may have a point there Droosan. By the way, since you seem to be fairly knowledgable on the subject: Do you have any idea how the comicsbook version of 'The Lake of Sharks' came about? I know the panels are supposedly from the movie itself, but have recently watch the film again, I think it's pretty obvious that this is not the case. All the panels are a lot more detailed than anything seen in the movie. Actually to me the style of the comicsbook looks very similar to Bob de Moor's.
Sorry, don't know about the book...

... I have TINTIN & THE LAKE OF SHARKS on videotape, but I've never seen the book version ... although it wouldn't surprise me if it were re-drawn to make the art seem more like the 'album' style ... I first saw T&TLOS about 20 years ago (when I was 11), and was a bit disappointed, after finally tracking it down on VHS a couple of years ago, to find that the quality of the animation & design wasn't nearly as 'lush' as it had seemed to me then ... quite similar to your posited feelings on the live-action films, actually ...
