...and wouldn't it be great if they adapted "Tintin in Tibet?" Maybe not, but I don't know what's more fascinating, the various adventures Tintin went on or the life of Herge himself.

Hey. French guy here, I was in Deauville for the American Film Festival that takes place there every year, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet was one of the members of the jury this time. It's not a big festival. What I mean is, it's not Cannes. So you can approach the celebrities more easily, and so we did. Having been intrigued by that same news in french Premiere, we managed to ask Jeunet if any of it was true. Question to which he answered (litterally) : It's nonsense. I personnally would very much like to see Tinitin adapted on the big screen but it's probably one of the most difficult stuff to adapt. Just like Ast

From the time I was introduced to Tintin in high school I have been attracted to its art style, the stories themselves, the French sound effects ("poc!"), Tintin's resourcefulness (he's almost like one of those omni-competent Stephen King protagonists) coupled with his humility and modesty, and the order of the world he occupies. For some reason I have always thought that the computer game character Twinsen (from the games "Relentless" (aka "The Little Big Adventure") and its sequel) is kind of a spiritual successor to Tintin.

Bring it one. Going the Shrek route would be perfect for Tintin, Snowy, Professor Cuthbert and the gang. Jeunet would be great, too.
What about the HBO animated adaptations?

I never even got a chance to see them -- not having HBO at the time, about ten years ago -- but they did a whole series of cartoon adaptations of the Tintin series. Why haven't these even been released on video or, better still, DVD?
i dunno.....

Herge was asked if they could change some details that would suit US audiences. The end result was a kind of 6-foot "Captain Superhero" with a jaw the size of Mount Rushmore, who piloted a rocketship and wore a cape !!! Herge blinked a few times. Then Captain Superhero introduced himself with a deep booming voice "Hello little friends I'm Tintin !" Sensing a coronary Herge shook his head ... "Sorry not interested ..."

The old TinTin movies on WABC-TV, New York were an early morning staple on Saturdays growing up, especially their take on Cuthbert's giant red and white checkquered moon rocket, right down to the soundtrack from George Pal's "Destination Moon".
Why CGI?

Why would CGI be the way to go? what benefit would it have over normal animation? Considering the source it makes no sense to go with CGI. Animation is the way to go. The HBO series prooved that. It was great. CGI is just the fad of the moment. It is already getting so realistic that it lacks any of the style or artistic feeling of cell animation. Watching something like shrek does not compare visually with watching something like The Hobbit, or even stop motion films like James and the Giant Peach. CGI keeps getting more real looking. Something like Tintin has no use for a super realistic look. It should be animated in the style of the comics. If they do it live action, fine, but please no CG.
I prefer a live action TinTin

The story is not true. There was a CGI movie idea few months ago. And Jeunet was interested into directing a *live* version of Tintin too. But a CGI movie directed by Jeunet PUH-LEASE! Plus the PREMIERE article doesn't mention any CGI element!!! It's all about a live action film. Check www.tintin.com

I live in Belgium, and I remember seeing it on television when is was a kid. In fact at my parent's house I should have a picture book with stills from the movie.. if anyone's interested (harry?) let me know, I can have a look and scan the pictures. The movie was called 'Tintin et les Oranges Bleues' ('Tintin and the Blue Oranges), it was not based on a comic and I can't recall if Herg
